THE AMAZING QUR'AAN THE WORD OF ALLAH

Allah advises us to use our minds and reason and knowledge to find the truth and not to follow our desires

1024 It is such that We clarify the revelations to a people who think (yatafakkaroona).
3028 It is such that We clarify the revelations for a people who have sense (ya'aqiloona).
3029 No, those who were wrong followed their desires without knowledge. So who can guide one whom God misguides? And they will have no victors.

He also advises us not to follow/cause to follow what we have no knowledge of

1736 And do not follow/cause to follow what you have no knowledge of. For the hearing, eyesight, and mind, all these you are responsible for.

In the case of whether the qur'aan is the word of Allah or not, we need to do the same use our mind, reason, and knowledge to find the truth.

The qur'aan is an amazing book full of amazing signs. To find out who authored the qur'aan, we have to take a look at the contents of the book. Let us consider some facts and aspects of the qur'aan

    1. THE QUR'AAN SAYS ALLAH AUTHORED IT

Allah clearly says that the qur'aan is from Him in the qur'aan, thus claiming authorship of the book

4105 We have revealed to you the Scripture with truth that you may judge between the people by that which God has shown you, and do not be an advocate for the treacherous.

619 Say "Which is the greatest testimony?" Say "God is witness between me and you, and He has inspired to me this Quran that I may warn you with it and whomever it reaches, that you bear witness that along with God are other gods!" Say "I do not bear witness!" Say "He is only One god, and I am innocent of what you set up!"

276 And you are receiving the Quran from One who is Wise, Knowledgeable.

7623 We have sent down to you the Quran in stages.

1037 This Quran could not have been produced without God, but it is to authenticate what is already present, and to give detail to the Scripture in which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.

1587 And We have given you seven of the pairs and the great Quran.

1015 And when Our clear revelations are recited to them, those who do not wish to meet Us said "Bring a Quran other than this, or change it!" Say "It is not for me to change it from my own accord, I merely follow what is inspired to me. I fear if I disobey my Lord the retribution of a great day!"

123 We relate to you the best stories through what We have inspired to you in this Quran; and before it you were of those who were unaware.

1782 And We send down from the Quran what is a healing and mercy to the believers. And it only increases the wicked in their loss.

1827 And recite what has been inspired to you from your Lord's Scripture, there is no changing His words, and you will not find besides Him any refuge.

3531 And what We inspired to you from the Scripture, it is the truth, authenticating what is present. God is Expert of His servants, Seer.

2951 Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Scripture, being recited to them? In that is a mercy and a reminder for people who believe.

1644 With clarity and the Psalms. And We sent down to you the Reminder to make clear to the people what was sent to them, and perhaps they will think.

2150 And this is a blessed reminder which We have sent down. Will you be deniers of it?

Now the question is, if the qur'aan is not the word of Allah, and instead it is the word of a man or group of men or jinn or malaika, then how come in 1400 years no one has come forward claiming to be the author of such an amazing book ?

    1. QUR'AAN'S MESSAGE NOT CORRUPTED

One of the miraculous aspects of the qur'aan is that its message has not been corrupted at all in 1400 years and has been preserved in the original language

159 Indeed it is We who have sent down the Reminder, and indeed it is We who will preserve it.

    1. QUR'AAN REVEALED IN COMMON MAN'S LANGUAGE

Another amazing aspect of the qur'aan is that Allah revealed it in the Arabic language which at that time was the language of the common people and not the elite in power.

122 We have sent it down an Arabic compilation, perhaps you will comprehend.

427 And thus We have inspired to you an Arabic compilation, so that you may warn the capital town and all around it, and to warn about the Day of Gathering that is inevitable.

That is amazing, that a book of such high quality and containing amazing information was not sent down in the developed language of its time, which was the language of the elite and the ones in power (the Nabatean language) but in a developing language spoken by the common man which was used for common day to day matters. That itself is one of the proofs of the qur'aan's divine origin

16103 And We are aware that they Say "A human is teaching him." The language of the one they refer to is foreign, while this is a clear Arabic language.

4331 And they said "If only this Quran was sent down to a great man from the two towns!"

    1. LITERARY QUALITY OF THE QUR'AAN

It is a well known fact that the arabic qur'aan is a book of literary excellence. Many scholars worldwide, including non-muslims as well, regard the qur'aan to be of superior quality in language, style, eloquence etc.

The following is what some of the scholars had to say about the qur'aan's literary excellence

"The above observation makes the hypothesis advanced by those who see Muhammad as the author of the Qur'an untenable. How could a man, from being illiterate, become the most important author, in terms of literary merits, in the whole of Arabic literature? How could he then pronounce truths of a scientific nature that no other human being could possibly have developed at that time, and all this without once making the slightest error in his pronouncement on the subject?" --Maurice Bucaille, THE BIBLE, THE QUR'AN AND SCIENCE, 1978, p. 125.

"Here, therefore, its merits as a literary production should perhaps not be measured by some preconceived maxims of subjective and aesthetic taste, but by the effects which it produced in Muhammad's contemporaries and fellow countrymen. If it spoke so powerfully and convincingly to the hearts of his hearers as to weld hitherto centrifugal and antagonistic elements into one compact and well-organized body, animated by ideas far beyond those which had until now ruled the Arabian mind, then its eloquence was perfect, simply because it created a civilized nation out of savage tribes, and shot a fresh woof into the old warp of history." --Dr. Steingass, quoted in T.P. Hughes' DICTIONARY OF ISLAM, p. 528.

"In making the present attempt to improve on the performance of my predecessors, and to produce something which might be accepted as echoing however faintly the sublime rhetoric of the Arabic Koran, I have been at pains to study the intricate and richly varied rhythms which - apart from the message itself - constitute the Koran's undeniable claim to rank amongst the greatest literary masterpieces of mankind... This very characteristic feature - 'that inimitable symphony,' as the believing Pickthall described his Holy Book, 'the very sounds of which move men to tears and ecstasy' - has been almost totally ignored by previous translators; it is therefore not surprising that what they have wrought sounds dull and flat indeed in comparison with the splendidly decorated original." --Arthur J. Arberry, THE KORAN INTERPRETED, London Oxford University Press, 1964, p. x.

?It is by far the finest work of Arabic prose in existence.? -- Alan Jones (The Oriental Institute, Oxford)

    1. SCIENTIFIC FACTS IN THE QUR'AAN

The qur'aan contains a lot of scientific facts that have never contradicted the proven scientific facts and have never been proven incorrect. It contains some scientific facts that were revealed in it 1400 years ago which have been discovered or proven to be correct only recently. How can someone 1400 years ago mention numerous scientific facts, which are very radical for the time, but prove to be correct over 1400 years after ? No human being is capable of such a feat.

For further information one can read the book by Maurice Bucaille "The Bible, The Koran and Science", and check the following links for articles on the amazing scientific facts contained in the qur'aan, some of which have been discovered in just the last 50 years

    http//rationalreality.50webs.com/bio.htm

    1. LACK OF A SINGLE CONTRADICTION

The qur'aan does not contain any literary, logical, scientific or any kind of contradiction in it which is extremely amazing. It has a lot of scientific facts, none of which contradict the known proven scientific facts. It has no contradictions of logic, examples of which can be seen at the following links

    1. PROPHECIES THAT HAVE COME TRUE

The qur'aan foretells some events in the future that have come true; these are more commonly known as ?prophecies?.

One of the famous prophecies is that Prophet Muhammad's uncle Abu Lahab would be condemned to Hell

1111 Condemned is the hand of Abu-Lahab; condemned indeed.
1112 His money will not avail him, nor what he has earned.
1113 He will be sent to a flaming Fire.

Abu Lahab supposedly lived for 11 years after the revelation of this verse. All he had to do to prove this verse wrong was to repent and become a submitter/believer but he did not do so.

Some of the other prohecies in the qur'aan which have come true are

    • The qur'aan's message will remain preserved and intact over time (159)

    • No one will be able to find any contradictions or discrepancies in the qur'aan (482)

    • Defeat of the Romans (302-4)

For details about other prophecies of the qur'aan please check out brother Wakas's article at the following link, which also contains details about the scientific facts in qur'aan and the literary quality of the qur'aan

    1. CHALLENGE BY ALLAH TO BRING A QUR'AAN LIKE IT

Allah has challenged all creation to bring a qur'aan like it, or even a chapter like it. The smallest chapter in the qur'aan comprises of 3 verses only, and so far no one in 1400 years has been able to meet that challenge

1788 Say "If all the humans and the Jinn were to gather to bring a Quran like this, they could not come with its like, even if they were helping one another."

223 And if you are in doubt as to what We have sent down to Our servant, then bring a chapter like this, and call upon your witnesses other than God if you are truthful.

1038 Or do they say he invented it? Say "Then bring a chapter like it, and call upon whoever you can besides God if you are truthful!"

1113 Or do they Say "He invented it!" Say "Bring ten invented chapters like it, and call on whom you can besides God if you are truthful."

    1. PROBABILITY ASSESSMENT

The probability of each of the above mentioned aspects of the qur'aan to have happened by chance is remote, about 1 in a billion, and the combined probability of ALL those aspects to have happened by chance alone is so remote that it is almost zero.

    1. THE QUR'AAN CAN ONLY BE THE WORD OF ALLAH

When we use our minds, reason, and knowledge and think and reflect on all these amazing aspects of the qur'aan, the inescapable conclusion we arrive at is that the qur'aan can only be the word of Allah and it is impossible for it to be the word of anyone other than Allah.

Thus it becomes very easy for us to believe that ALL of the qur'aan is from Allah

37 He is the One who sent down to you the Scripture, from which there are governing verses; they are the essence of the Scripture; and others which are similar. As for those who have disease in their hearts, they will follow what is similar from it seeking to confuse, and seeking to derive an interpretation. But none know its interpretation except God and those who are well founded in knowledge, they Say "We believe in it, all is from our Lord." And none will remember except the people of understanding.

                Peace,
                Respectfully.

I believe and think that since no human, no jinn, not angel not even satan has ever claimed to be the author of The Quran, that not only God exists, but God is Truly AllPowerful that if any human, jinn, angel or satan tried to claim that he or she wrote The Quran, helped, s/he or it would be punished.

                God knows best.
                Glory be to our God,
                God bless you all.

How can we prove that The Qur'an is the word of God?

The amount of people who have believed in the Divine authorship of the Qur?an since its revelation 14 centuries ago amounts to billions. In the face of such a consensus, especially when considered that each affirmation corroborates the others while negations or denials add nothing to each other, it falls upon those who reject the Divine authorship of the Qur?an to prove their negation, which is impossible. However, in order to remove the dust of doubt that may come to the hearts and minds of some believers under the influence of both modern trends of scepticism and atheism and followers of other religions, we shall mention only a few of the evidences to establish that the Qur?an is a word of God.

I find it amusing that the large number of followers of Islam is used as evidence for the Quran. The fact that there are more Christians in the world than Muslims should then mean that the Bible is the inspired word of God until proven otherwise. I don't think the number of fallible humans who believe something makes their belief anymore likely. There was a time when the majority believed that the earth was flat.

The Qur?an is completely different from all the other books in the world.

When we study the Qur?an even superficially from the viewpoint of its wording, styles, and meaning, we will certainly conclude that it is completely different from all the other books in the world. So, in rank and worth it is either below all of them?even Satan cannot claim this, nor does he conceive of it?or above them. Since it is above all of them, it must be the Word of God.

The Qur?an, which he brought, has challenged all mankind with all their literary geniuses and scientists, from the first day of its revelation to the Last Day, to produce a like of it or even a single chapter of it

                  The Qur?an openly declares

You (O Muhammad) was not a reader of any Scripture before it, nor did you write (such a Scripture) with your right hand, for then those who follow falsehood might (have a right) to doubt it. (al-Ankabut, 29.4

It is an established, undeniable fact that the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, was unlettered. Whereas the Qur?an, which he brought, has challenged all mankind with all their literary geniuses and scientists, from the first day of its revelation to the Last Day, to produce a like of it or even a single chapter of it

If you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down onto Our servant (Muhammad), then produce a chapter of the like thereof, and call your witnesses, supporters, who are apart from God, if you are truthful. (al-Baqara, 2.23)

Mankind have since been unable to produce a like of only one of its chapters, including, of course, its shortest ones like sura al-Ikhlas or sura al-Kawthar; those who have ventured to do that have all laid themselves open to ridicule. This is a clear proof for the Divine authorship of the Qur?an.

This is one of the reason I believe the Quran is the work of a rather simple minded individual. I wouldn't expect God to use such flawed arguments in support of the book he has supposedly authored. What does it mean exactly when the Quran says "a surah like it"? The author of the Quran fails to provide the conditions of the challenge, and a means to judge whether the challenge has been met. In the end all it comes down to is subjective opinion on whether the challenger had been able to produce "a surah like it". If the author is really God he should be able to come up with a better argument for the Quran's authenticity.

The Qur?an was revealed in 23 years, yet there are not any contradictory points in it.

The revelation of the Qur?an lasted 23 years. It is inconceivable that any book written by a mortal being in 23 years, one which is a book of Divine truths, metaphysics, religious beliefs and worship, prayer, law and morality, a book fully describing the other life, a book of psychology, sociology, epistemology, and history, and a book containing scientific facts and the principles of a happy life, does not have any contradictory points. Whereas, the Qur?an openly declares that it has no contradictions at all and therefore is a Divine Book
Will they not then ponder on the Qur?an? If it had been from other than God they would have found therein much contradiction and incongruity. (al-Nisa?, 4.82)

There are verses in the Quran that can be interpreted as contradicting others.

The Qur?an is beyond compare from the viewpoint of its styles and eloquence.

The Qur?an is beyond compare from the viewpoint of its styles and eloquence. All the sentences, words and even letters used in the Qur?an form such a miraculous harmony that, with respect to rhythm, music, and even geometric proportions and mathematical measures, and with respect to how many times each is used in the whole of the Qur?an, each is in the exact place it must be and interwoven and interrelated with others. The literary masterpiece of no one, including the sayings of the Prophet himself, upon him be peace and blessings, cannot compete with the Qur?an.

Prophet Muhammad was unlettered and no one had heard him say even a couple of poetry. However, the Qur?an also challenged the known experts in poetry and oratory and forced them to surrender.

I don't quite understand why being unable to read or write makes it so difficult for an individual to come up with descent poetry. All you need is an ability to speak the language well, the scribes can do the writing for you.

No one has ever been heard to be bored with the recitation of the Qur?an.

I found this bit quite funny. I suppose thats why a lot of young Muslims have the latests songs downloaded onto their MP3s, but not the Quran.

To claim that Muhammad?God forbid such a thought!? invented the Qur?an means that Muhammad, who was known as Muhammad the Trustworthy, was?we beg forgiveness for having to narrate such a false claim?the greatest liar and cheat history has ever known.

As was explained earlier, the Prophet lived a very austere life and never pursued any worldly gains or aims like fame, rulership, wealth and having beautiful women. Furthermore, he had to resist hardships and persecutions of the severest kind. To claim that Muhammad?God forbid such a thought!? invented the Qur?an means that Muhammad, who was known as Muhammad the Trustworthy, was?we beg forgiveness for having to narrate such a false claim? the greatest liar and cheat history has ever known. What might have caused him to falsely claim Prophethood despite the severest of deprivations and persecutions? To accuse the Prophet Muhammad of falsely claiming Prophethood and attribute the Qur?an to him, is the most groundless and the most degrading and meanest of accusations.

I'm sure their have been greater liars or maybe he was just deluded. People before and after Muhammed have claimed to be prophets; Joseph Smith, Guru Nanak, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, etc. All three of them have millions of followers yet teach contradicting doctrines, which goes to show that human beings are capable of believing anything.

Although other Prophets like Moses and Jesus are mentioned many times in the Qur?an despite the Jews? and Christians? denial of Muhammad, we come across the name Muhammad only four times

The Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, saw much resistance from the Jews and Christians. He had to fight against the Jews of Madina several times and expel them from the city. Despite this, the Qur?an mentions the Prophet Moses, the Prophet sent to the Israelites, about 500 times, while the name of Muhammad is mentioned in the Qur?an only four times. The Qur?an also mentions the Prophet Jesus many times. Is it conceivable that one who falsely claims Prophethood ever mentions the Prophets of the peoples who show him great hostility?

Or maybe he name dropped Moses and Jesus a lot to make his new religion more attractive to Jews and Christians.

The Qur?an?s mention of previous Prophets, including especially Moses and Jesus, upon them be peace, and the Christians? and Jews? denial of Muhammad?s Prophethood and the Divine authorship of the Qur?an, is an undeniable proof of the Prophethood of Muhammad and the Divine authorship of the Qur?an and that the Christians? and Jews? denial comes from purely false reasons like jealousy, prejudice and selfishness.

I highly doubt Christians and Jews actually want to go to hell. They sincerely believe that their religion is true just like Muslims do. Saying that they're jealous or whatever is just plain stupid.

It is another argument for the Divine authorship of the Qur?an that it refers to certain facts of creation recently established by modern scientific methods. How, except on account of its Divine authorship, is it possible for the Qur?an to be literally true on matters of which people had not the least inkling at the time when it was revealed? For example, if the Qur?an were not a Divine Revelation, would it have been possible for it to contain such a verse as this Do not the unbelievers realize that the heavens and the earth were one unit of creation before we split them asunder? (al-Anbiya?, 21.20).

Whether the Qur?an really does refer, explicitly or implicitly, to the kinds of facts the sciences deal with, and the relationship between the Qur?an and modern sciences, are matters of considerable controversy among Muslim intellectuals. We should therefore treat the subject at length.

That verse is far too vague and tells us nothing.

Islam has overtaken Catholicism, not Christianity.

                      From your second link

However Christians as a whole, including Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants and Anglicans make up 33 per cent of the world population.

You expect God to explain to you in detail what each and every surah stands for and then explain how it?s been relevant throughout all times then how its stands out from the rest of the words and then ask you to believe in Him ) Why don?t you explain to God what better ideas He could have used ! maybe this will help you to expose more of the tricks used in the Qur'an hmm

I don't quite understand why being unable to read or write makes it so difficult for an individual to come up with descent poetry. All you need is an ability to speak the language well, the scribes can do the writing for you.

I am sure you have all that's required to come up with a "decent poetry", then you too can join the ranks of the gurus sun

Or may be he name dropped Moses and Jesus a lot to make his new religion more attractive to Jews and Christians.

Or maybe you did not bother to find out that Mohammad never wanted the Jews or the Christians to abandon their faith.

Finally btw. even if it?s the quality rather than the quantity that counts in Islam this is still the fasted growing religion of the modern world despite all the negative publicity thrown at it.voodoo

                            then..

JUST PROVE ME THAT GOD DOES NOT EXIST.

                              Peace WayFinder,

You are falling in a logical fallacy! The burden of proof is on the one making a positive claim, and not proving its negative.

Even in al-qur'an, God does not ask us to "know"/"3lima" that God exists, but to "believe/trust"/"aamana" in God. This is part of the test. If God had given concrete proof of His existence in this life, then there would be no test anymore! There are however hints and signs all over the universe that point to the fact that God exists and that there can only be one God. Suggested starting point would be study of particle physics and quantum mechanics, human anatomy and physiology and biochemistry, and a solid understanding of statistics and laws of probability

                                  Peace WayFinder,

Just to add to what I said above, whenever confronted with someone who does not believe in existence of God, ask him/her how the universe came to existence, i.e. make a positive statement, and then ask for proof of that positive statement because then the burden of proof is on him/her. That will be the proper way to do it and this way of thinking will eventually lead that person to the truth. For example, if someone says the universe came into existence by random chance, then the burden of proof is on that person to prove that it occurred by random chance. When that person will try to get a proof of that positive statement, he/she will not be able to find any proof of that positive statement and will eventually conclude that it is not true. Then he/she will be forced to make another positive hypothesis, for example the universe was created by multiple gods, and then the burden of proof will be again on that person to prove that positive hypothesis. Eventually all the possibilities other than one God will be ruled out and the eventual conclusion will be that the universe could only have been created by One Higher Power.

The other avenue of thinking is that believing in God is less risky than not believing in God. The prudent logical person will come to the conclusion that if there is no God and the person dies then nothing to worry about but if there is a God then there is a problem! So it is less risky to believe in a God than not to believe in God.

When pursuing these avenues of thought the sincere person will study everything out there including the words of God and science etc. and will eventually be forced to conclude that there is one God and that it is safer to believe in God!

Thanks for the tips. They are really helpful. May I ask what a positive statement is? This is the definition I got on the internet
Positive statements are statements of facts based on data which can be proved right or wrong.

But I don't get how does that place the burden of proof on the other person?

Well I see someone seeking explanations in search of God and, if you are seriously looking for God, you would find all your answers including why back when you asked for an "explanation" you did not get it then and there ...Patience is one requirement and if you lack patience you cannot expect God to be patient with you.

I don't think I'm any good at writing poetry or good prose, but I have read plays and poetry written by other individuals and I preferred it to the Quran.

It?s good to know you enjoy plays and poetry; I would say life itself is a big play on a bigger stage. It may be good to sit back and see your part in your own life play itself out and then assess what role you would like to play. This may help you to come up with a plan of your own and then you would not say I am no good at writing and maybe then you would think differently.

He defiantly wanted them to accept the Quran though didn't he and by default that he was prophet of god. He probably realised that mentioning individuals like Moses would make his new religion more appealing to Jews and Christians.

What is wrong with saying positive things about others people?s faith? Making positive remarks about others does not necessarily mean you have an ulterior motive to force your views on others ...Start thinking in a positive manner and you may see things from a different point of view.

Mostly due to the large numbers of children Muslims tend to have.

This is one factor but I was talking about ?fastest growing religion? in terms of the number of reverts attracted to the teaching of Qur?an. Most converts were taken aback by the beauty of the Qur?an, whereas many born Muslims, who have lots of Muslim relatives, including lots of children, have been unable to grasp the teachings of the Qur?an. With those Islam has shrunk rather than grown.
                                      Good luck sun

                                        Peace aalmakto,

By positive statement, I mean a statement which does not contain a negative. For example

                                        A. Iraq has weapons of mass destruction ---> positive statement
                                        B. Iraq does not have weapons of mass desruction ---> negative statement

Burden of proof is on the one who claims A, not on one who claims B.

                                        A. Martians exist ---> positive statement
                                        B. Martians do not exist ---> negative statement.

Burden of proof is on the one who claims A, not on one who claims B.

                                        A. 80 foot humans and flying horses exist.
                                        B. 80 foot humans and flying horses do not exist.

Burden of proof is on the one who claims A, not on one who claims B.

                                        A. Universe came into existence by random chance.
                                        B. Universe did not come into existence by random chance.

Burden of proof is on the one who claims A, not on one who claims B.

                                        Hope that helped.

How about the scientific miracles in the Quran? Muhammad couldn't have known that much about science considering that he was uneducated and lived way before such discoveries were made.
