Also more importantly thank God he didn't make it difficult.
I really don't like the red font as forum topic headings.
Let's have a poll. I'd vote for the old font colour and light background.
SarahSarah, if you can suggest how to tie it in with the main site without making it red I am all ears.

An artist drew the picture and was selling it on a stock photo site. I felt the message behind the picture fit the site extremely well so I couldn't resist buying it. The artist deserves the praise behind the "deep" message not me. It was quite uncanny, the picture was called "truth" or something along those lines.

What about using a darker shade of red? The red that is used in the banner is fairly light, but it's a background. For the text why not try this colour

the red background on the banner has beautiful gradients... i bet it's hard to adjust it to get this effect... if the red is darker it can't contrast with the art right? plus the art already has some transparency in it, if the background is darker, i doubt i would notice the art... i don't know, i just felt like it's perfect already... just an opinion tho ... ;D
i'm not sure why safe color is an issue... browsers and internet connection now are good enough to display any color right?
the text color is just following the banner... so it follows the main colour theme as far as my eyes can see... lol i'm talking like it's me who designed it... heh... sorry aalmakto.... it's just feels good looking at it.... i can't help myself commenting about it...
