A Question About 6:151
-
6151 Say ?Come let me recite for you what your Lord has forbidden for you that you should not set up anything with Him; and be kind to your parents; and do not kill your children for fear of poverty, We provide for you and for them; and do not come near lewdness, what is plain of it or subtle; and do not kill the soul which God has forbidden, except in justice. That is what He enjoined you that you may comprehend.?
Why does the god differentiate between killing a child and killing in general? I vaguely recall reading somewhere on this forum that the bit that's translated as "Do not kill your children" should actually be translated as "Do not neglect your children" so I searched for the thread in which I read that, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, what do you guys think 6151 says?
Are you looking for this one??

I think by logic it should not mean literal killing, otherwise it would be understood that poverty is the only prohibited justification for killing them (i.e you may kill them but not because of poverty).
As for the FM translatio of (unborn children), I do not know why they inserted this "unbrorn". God speaks of these unborn children as "those in the wombs". -
Assuming quoted translation is accurate.

The above is only valid if one takes the statement in isolation. If we have the entire Quran to look at, then the above is invalid.
What is more likely, is that a common event taking place at the time (and perhaps even now) is that children (born or unborn) were killed due to poverty reasons. By saying do not kill the soul which God has forbidden, is general, and open to interpretation, thus The Quran will clarify in other places as to what this means, hence other statements.

Amazing but its so straight forward;
.........and do not kill your children from/because of poverty We provide for you and them.............
Does God give us food on the table, does he give us a bag full of coins to buy food?.........No.
He has provided us with abundance by way of nature and the children can't get it...fruits, vegetables, Knowledge..e.t.c
He is very simply stating don't let them die OF poverty for you are responsible and we have provided for them and you (get off your back sides and go out and get it or you will be the killer)........
I think.
God Bless.

So the verse makes sense for the audience the prophet was preaching to. Some may think killing children is justified if they can not take care of them. So the verse makes sense to me as it sounds.

I do not think that the first reason for abortion is poverty. In the US, the second reason (from six reasons) is the inability to support or care for a child, which is not necessarily because of poverty. Does this make the other three reasons (unplanned (first reason); unwanted pregnancy; birth defects) quraanicly acceptable? (The other two reasons are pregnancy resulting from rape and health of mother).
Unplanned/undesired pregnancy seems to be the first reason of abortions even in the third world
This level of unintended pregnancy for developing countries would be even higher if more accurate abortion information were available, since most abortions represent, by definition, unintended pregnancies. The limited available data show that high proportions of unintended pregnancies are resolved by abortion in Tanzania (61%) and in six Latin American countries (ranging from 43% in Mexico to 63% in Chile).4 In the former Soviet republics of Kazakstan and Uzbekistan, more than one-third of mistimed pregnancies and about four-fifths of pregnancies among women who have all the children they want resulted in abortions
Is this "murder/killing" quraanicly acceptable?

Are you kidding? the verse is not about that at all .
what you stated is talking about Poverty, and fear, and shame/ don't kill your children because of these things.

Other reason

And in the same way for most of the idolaters the murdering of their off springs has been made alluring by their associates
http//www.haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/006.%20Al%20Anaam/temp%2002%206.137d.gif
to destruct/make them rolling stones and to confuse and obscure them in their system of life.http//www.haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/006.%20Al%20Anaam/temp%2002%206.140.gif
Indeed those have caused loss who killed their off springs foolishly without knowledgeAnd also 6012 may be read where this is the part ofthe pledge/oath taken.

I believe this has to do with children being offspring... that which is in creation... such as even wasting sperm. Because if you did, then you'll become sexually lame. And always after a ghusl. But even without mentioning that. You'll find that some people don't consider children as adults... children and adults are different things. At one point there is no rhul of allah in a child, it's just part of the mother, and before that constituents of the parents.
