    Salam fellow forum goers,

I've been contemplating trying to convert my mother and father to Islam and to distance themselves from Sunnism. My mother and father were both brought up with the system and adhere to its ridiculous rules and regulations. brickwall

The good thing is that they are both resonable and intelligent people and I believe that if I can throw some facts and rational their way, that they might see things from a new perspective. By facts and rational, I mean to explain why their views are unislamic and why they shouldnt follow them.

Any suggestions, I'd like a unified family! group

      Peace to all,

Diem, I hope you succeed, I would research this forum first to get your arguments down and ready, they will throw the same old verses and arguments at you, but if you are prpared and can quote the verse and number they will have no way to refute you. Once they see the Quran is all they need the scales will fall from their eyes, God willing. We should be winning them over one person at a time, starting with those closest to us.

      Good luck bro,

      Kurt

Thanks, I plan to start with my mother, seeing as she is more open to ideas,
any more input from others would be greatly appreciated.

          peace,

I recommend starting off with small things. For example, if any day to day topic of conversation or news item comes up, try and give the Quranic viewpoint. But more so than specific points, try and emphasise the Quranic method. Appeal to their inquisitve/questioning nature, inner compass etc, just make them think more.... you do not necessarily have to adopt a Q&A format.

It is very important to take it gradually in my opinion. For example, if someone told me back then the things that I think now about "Islam" there is almost zero chance I would accept it.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

If your mother trusts her husband over herself, then that's a mistake. You should always start with the father, as per the prophet Ibrahim. Or in the case of that film, both of them together.

And how about future parents bringing them to learn to teach through Quran so they know they have fulfilled their duty as Luqman did. The other day I made my sons recite surah 31 and while reading I realised that if only we taught this kind of wisdom to our children it would cover all aspects of edcution which the single surah coverd from the law of gravity to discipline etc.
! Maybe we can explore this in Friday Khtubah

age doesn't always bring wisdom, sometimes it comes alone.

Wisdom does not come with age. Wisdom comes with experience.

A 20 year old person who goes out into the world and takes notice of what is going on is much more wise than a 50 year old person who stays at home dreaming all there lives
