    Salaaman all,

I am really confused about Ghanimat and Anfaal. Can someone shed some light of their knowledge or their understanding on it please?

    And what exactly Ghanimat means?

    Any answer will be appreciated.

May Allah guide us all towards the correct path that He has chosen for us. pr

    Khan

      Salaam mmkhan,

In my opinion all the following words are related to each other.

      Sadakat - charity
      Infak - spending, giving
      Anfaal - surplus
      Afu - surplus
Ma Ghanimtum (ghanimat) - that you gain

We can see these words in the following verses. May be Samia can give some clarifications concerning these expressions

9.60 The (&#1615 charities are to go to
      the poor,
      and the needy,
and those who work to collect them,
and those whose hearts have been united, (those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to the Truth)
      and to free the slaves,
      and those in debt,
and in the cause of God,
      and the wayfarer.
A duty from God, and God is Knowledgeable, Wise.

2.215 They ask you ( &#1614 what they should spend, Say ?What you spend out of goodness should go to
      your parents
      and the relatives
      and the orphans,
      and the needy,
      and the wayfarer.
And any good you do, God is fully aware of it.?

8.41 You should know ?Of ( &#1613 anything you gain, that one-fifth shall go to
      God and the messenger,
      and the relatives,
      and the orphans,
      and the poor,
      and the wayfarer.?
You will do this if you believe in God and in what We revealed to Our servant on the day of the Criterion, the day the two armies clashed. God is able to do all things.

8.69 So enjoy ( &#1618 from what you have gained as lawful and good, and be aware of God. Surely, Allah is Most Protecting, Full of Grace.

8.1 They ask you regarding the (&#1616 surpluses, Say ?The surpluses are for God and the messenger.? So be aware of God, and be upright in matters between you; and obey God and His messenger if you are believers.

2219 ??.. And they ask you ( &#1614 how much they should give. Say, "All that is (&#1614 surplus." Thus God makes His messages plain for you, that you may reflect.

        Wa Alaika Salaam brother Tlepsh,

Thank you for your reply. And also I am thankful for reminding of the verses to me.

        Sadakat - charity
        Infak - spending, giving
        Anfaal - surplus
        Afu - surplus
Ma Ghanimtum (ghanimat) - that you gain

I believe that meanings for all the above got some differences, thats why a different word has been used.

As per your understanding of "Ma Ghanimtum" or "Ghanimat", does it include increments in Salary, or bonuses, or regular income, or a gain on a static income?

I am curious about 841. Does it mean that we have to take out 20% from our income in the way of Allah and others mentioned in that aayat?

        All suggestions are welcome.

May Allah increase our knowledge and help us understand the true meanings of His aayaats pr

        Khan

          peace,

Is it possible for you to compile some information, from PRL for example?
          http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm

It would make others wishing to study it a lot easier, thus more likely to get a response.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

              Salam Khan,

As I understand Ma ghanimtum and ma kasabtum are same. Both mean what we gain or earn. As per 8.69 what we gain (ma ghanimtum) shall be lawful and good. We can enjoy part of it (min ma ghanimtum) and we have to contribute or spend the rest for others.

In verse 2.267 God tells us to contribute from the good things of whatever we have earned (min ma kasabtum) and from whatever the God produced for us from the earth.

What we have to spend for others or contribute is the surplus of what we gain or earn.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

              God bless.

                  Wa Alaika Salaam brother,

                  Thank you for your reply.

As I understand Ma ghanimtum and ma kasabtum are same.

Sorry for not agreeing with your understanding. I still believe that it is very easy for Allah to repeat the word several times in AlQuraan, but when He decided to use another word, that surely means to me that it got another meaning.

What we have to spend for others or contribute is the surplus of what we gain or earn.

How can we calculate surplus of our gains or earnings as you said?

With the help of brother Wakas post's link, I refered and understand that Ghanim is used for loot, if I am not mistaken. But still not I am not sure.

Is there any aayat known to anyone talking about regular salary? Is there any word used in Arabic besides "Ajar"?

May Allah help us with His guidance towards the correct path. pr

                    Salaam Khan

According to PRL Online (brother Wakas? link) Gh-Nun-Miim has more than one meaning as shown below.
How did you come to an understanding that Ghanim is used for loot?
Is there any verse in Quran that permits taking loot?

Gh-Nun-Miim = obtained, got, took (usually in reference to spoils or booties); acquisition without difficulties, regaining, sheep or goats collected together
ghanima vb. (1) perf. act. 841, 869 (ghanimtum); see No. 1
                    ghanam n.coll. 6146, 2018, 2178 (ghanami, ghanamii, ghanamu)
                    maghnam n.m. (pl. maghanim) 494, 4815, 4819, 4820 (maghaanimu, maghaanima)
