First sorry if this has been covered before, and I am pretty sure it probably has, but I dont see a thread on it. So anyway.
And this is for only those who actually believe in performing salat and having a congregational salat.

The Quran mentions the Congregational Salat in Surah 629-11.
But the term Friday is not in the original Quran(it was added into translations much later), nor was it a name of a day until the modern western calendar came into existence. The 5th day of the week according to Roman counting, was named after their pagan goddess Venus(the Germanic Frigg, Frigg's Daeg=Friday).
The Quranic year didnt use our modern days or weeks as has been pointed out in other posts, this isnt the place to discuss that topic. )

Any way my question is, Does the Quran mention what day this Congregational Salat is to take place? I cant seem to find it. If it doesn't then I suppose that means its left up to us to decide and that it doesnt matter on what day we hold them.

Bare with me, If its according to the Quranic 5th day of the week, that would not be the same day as our Friday today. Whether we start a lunar month at the 1st crescent or new moon, it would be the 5th day after the 1st day of the new month. If its more than once a month then it would be on the 5th,10th,15th, 20th,25th & 30th of each lunar month and the day of the modern week would not even come into play.
For example, if we begin this lunar month on the 3rd, according to the 1st Crescent, the 5th day would have been on the 7th of February(Saturday), the 10th day would have been on the 12th of Feb.(Thursday) and so on. If we start a new month on the new moon, then January 27th(Jan31=5th) or February 26th(Mar.2nd=5th) will begin a new month and the Congregational date would follow 5 days later.

Trying to learn, forgive me if I ask to many questions.

    Peace & God Bless!

If you are referring to yawmul-jumu'ah, this can mean a day/time of gathering/socializing. And it specifically says that we go pray when we are supposed to and let the social issues and business wait for prayer.

Yes I was referring to that one, what is commonly referred to as the Friday Congregational Salat. So the Quran is silent about which day this is to be done on? How did Friday come into play?

I think, but could be mistaken, that yawmul-jumu'ah simply means "day of the congregation". Thanks Anwar for the info you gave me. So there is no Quranic support for it being on Friday's? So going to mosque or having congregational meetings on any day of the week is acceptable. )

Maybe it's talking about the Sabbath (Shabbat) observance...? Or maybe it doesn't matter, since it's not specified. Perhaps you can hold this "day of assembly" any day of the week, and the specific day is not as important as the practice itself...

You may wish to research the link between between this and "hajj".

I was not referring to any particular thing, just that you may wish to study this angle. You can read about it here for example

Not saying it is correct, but simply a possibility to consider in your studies.

Ive read the exact post you linked to and the entire thread and the observations on it referring to The Gathering/aka hajj/feast/gathering and not to any particular day of the week etc, makes alot of since.

And it appears,Im rethinking my belief in 2 salat times again, instead of 3,even though the Tanakh speaks of 3 too.. hmm

                                Peace be upon you,

It is easy to do the things you are suppossed to do when you are alone or with like minded people...but when you are out in social situations, social GATHERINGS, one tends to put off thier obligations for another time.

So when you are at gatherings (at the time of gathering) do not forget to maintain salaat, then go back to the gathering.

This is about real life situations.

The Quran is to telling us to uphold or observe this time of social gathering (yawmul-jumu'at) it is only saying that when we find ourselves in such social gatherings, and it is time for prayer that we go pray. That is as far as I see it being taken.

                                  Godbless,

Salat does not involve bowing and prostration. Salat is the act of incense burning. Please read my article titled "Salat is none other than Incense Burning".

                                      Peace to all,

The Quran is to telling us to uphold or observe this time of social gathering (yawmul-jumu'at) it is only saying that when we find ourselves in such social gatherings, and it is time for prayer that we go pray. That is as far as I see it being taken.

I formerly held this same view. Now, however, I'm starting to question this... The Qur'aan is speaking of a specific day, not any random day of observing salaat. Also, it tells the worshipers to "drop all business" on this day, and it never mentions returning to the day's business. In fact, it's rejects this, condemning those who return to work after the salaat to perform business deals. Therefore, after the observance, this is a day dedicated to worshiping G-d and 'resting' from work, just like the Jewish shabbat. In this passage (629), the words "al-salaat min yawmi al-jumu'at" looks like they can be taken as referring to Friday AND the day of assembly, or even the day of assembly on Friday. This would also coincide with the Jewish shabbat, which, depending on the group and culture, fall on Friday after sunrise, on Thursday night through Friday evening, or on Friday night through Saturday evening.

                                      Peace,

                                      Ahmad

                                        Ahmad

Exactly in the next verse (6210) it says

"Once the prayer is completed, you may spread through the land to seek GOD's bounties, and continue to remember GOD frequently, that you may succeed."

This shows that it is not for the whole day. It is in the middle of the day, and once it's completed, one may continue to work, trade, play soccer or whatever.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

                                          Peace,

Exactly in the next verse (6210) it says

"Once the prayer is completed, you may spread through the land to seek GOD's bounties, and continue to remember GOD frequently, that you may succeed."

This shows that it is not for the whole day. It is in the middle of the day, and once it's completed, one may continue to work, trade, play soccer or whatever.

Again, you're WRONG. Where does the passage tell us to return to work or trade, or to finish our normal activities? Instead of saying this, it tells us to "seek G-d's bounties", which does not include trade and work. In fact, the next passage after the verse you cited says

When some of them come across a business deal or some entertainment, they rush to it and leave you standing. Say, "What G-d possesses is far greater than the entertainment or the business. G-d is the best provider." (62111)

Now, since the preceding verse is talking about AFTER the congregational observance, then so is this one. The people were reprimanded for focusing on business deals and entertainment AFTER the congregational salaat. Therefore, we are adversely advised NOT to commit these same offenses. In other words, the day of the congregational salaat is a day of "rest", just like the Jewish shabbat. Apparently, it starts in the midday, and it lasts throughout the rest of the day...

                                          Peace,

                                          Ahmad
