    Peace be unto you,

Coming from the Christian faith and the prevelant idolatry within, both in Catholic and Protestant sects, I stand by my interpretation and context of the Surah.

If you wish to keep stone idols as icons of God, a spiritual being that man cannot gaze upon without dying, that's on you.

Believe or believe not. I'm not a guardian.

    Peace and blessings.

I agree stone idols are a waste of time as gods or image of god, but if people choose to have them whats the harm.

According to the quran anyway as far as i am able to understand it its the shirk that is harmful or doing/behaving in ways forbidden by God.

Murderring , raping , lying, stealing, backbiting...e.t.c i am sure you can think of loads more.

    peace

      Peace be unto you,

      It's idolatry.

      Is idolatry forbidden or not?

I personally destroyed all the Marvel and DC comics statuettes, trophies from past accomplishments, and destroyed original statuettes along with the molds when I came to know God. Tore down posters and images of heroes and movie posters as well. I'm not willing to endanger my soul in a matter like this.

Where your treasures are, there lies your heart.

      Peace and blessings.

Absolutely, but i suppose a mans actions could be Rabb as well- does it necessarily have to be an entity?

How can stone idols be Ilah? do they have any attributes like Allah?

        peace

Yes any intelligent being can be a Rabb. Like in Joseph's time, the King was called a Rabb. God is your highest Rabb. Pharaoh thought he was the highest Rabb. So a Rabb is a disposer of affairs. An Ilah is an entity that is prayed to. So if you pray to a non-Rabb Ilah like a stone. Don't expect any response soon. ;D

Shirk is forbidden- that is doing according to other then Allah/ God Allmighty or going opposite to the attributes of God.

Stones are not even mentioned in the quran, they may be in the bible - but you have so many errors in the bible.

Don't follow those who mislead you away from God , don't even follow your desires that are misleading you away from God or remember you will be punished .......

Its not about stones , as stones can't do damn sh--.(please its not meant to be offensive)

          peace

Of course if you take a stone as your illah, then you will be following your desires or following some one else who will lead you, so your desires or who you follow will be your illah and not the stone. The stone doesn't have the power to do anything........now won't you agree on that?

            yes

                Peace be unto you,

"O you who believe, intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (dividing by) arrows are only an uncleanness, the devil's work; so shun it that you may succeed." Surah 590

                I follow God. God misleads?

What the Quran says about the Torah and Gospel
                Surah 291, 299, 32-4, 3184, 384, 4136, 566-68, 6154-155, 1037, 12111, 1856, 2848-49, 2946-47, 4215-16

"And this is a Book We have revealed, full of blessings; so follow it and keep your duty that mercy may be shown to you." Surah 6155

"And certainly We have made the Quran easy to remember, but is there any one who will mind?" Surah 5417
"Surely We have revealed the Reminder, and surely We are its Guardian." Surah 159

Insincere readers are diverted from the meaning of the Quran. Surah 7146, 1745, 1857, 4144
                No other source of Law
                Surah 1827-28, 159, 5417, 981-8

God confirms in the Quran He does not like idolatry nor will He tolerate it on the Day of Judgement.

"And certainly We have brought them a Book which We make clear with knowledge, a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe." Surah 752

                Surah 4144

Bears repeating "The majority of those who believe in GOD do not do so without committing idol worship." Surah 12106

You are correct Stones/idols cannot do anything. Why have them then?

                I am not a guardian.

                Peace and blessings.

                  Peace,

The ancients didn't worship the stone but thought the stone represent a diety that can respond by praying to his/her image. Now I am an apologetic for paganism. So God send messengers first to correct this. He didn't punish them immediately.

                  Peace,

Not call you to account Allah of futility in your faith/beliefs but will call you to account for what is deliberate in your faiths/beliefs????.
                    590
O you who believe the covering up and making things easier causes Distress and produces harm an abomination (of) handiwork (of) Satan so avoid it so that you may attain success.

The original translation isn't right, look at the two ayah's using a common quranic dictionary how they go hand in hand.

Bears repeating "The majority of those who believe in GOD do not do so without committing idol worship." Surah 12106

12106 is talking about shrk/associating with God - that only happens when you obey others, in opposition to God, and stones don't talk back so they have nothing to say.

You are correct Stones/idols cannot do anything. Why have them then?

If they cannot do anything, why does the quistion arrise to have them or not have them at all?

I don't believe God is talking about stones as such about our actions which are in oppostion to His attributes, which cause all harm to other people, unlike His attributes which are for the benefit.

                    peace

God has sent messengers to stop people doing harm to one another- its repeated throughout the quran and stop people committing shrk-obeying others who lead you in the opposite direction to Gods way.

These people who have mistranslated the quran in the first place where worshippers- like bowing prostrating to stones, Hindus, they have , i believe devised the method "don't worship stone but worship Allah" when actually it is "don't serve others then Allah" and that can only be living people and not stones as stones have nothing to say = i reckon, don't you?

                      God Bless.

Yes. Shirk goes both ways. Don't take multiple Rabbs like Kings and Tyrants(Remember Joseph and Moses). And don't take multiple Ilah which are abstract dieties which could be a dead person and is usually presented as a physical object.(Remember Noah and Abraham).

                        Peace.

in the fourth ayah he says Your lord created them (and not you!), created what the idols? and that he himself is a witness, witness to the creation.........creation of what?

And then explain it to me if you still say he is talking about idols peace

i don't think he is talking about any idol.

Exactly. These idols are not haphazard. They represent the Jinn and past humans. Thats why God says most people believe in the Jinn and says that what you are calling are humans like you and they are dead and they won't respond.

                                Hi Br,

where on earth does it say that?

and doesn't it say Abraham broke the idols all eccept one or something?

                                They are scattered verses.

3441 They will say, "Glory to Thee! our (tie) is with Thee - as Protector - not with them. Nay, but they worshipped the Jinns most of them believed in them."

Till now, I don't know how did they know the Jinns in the first place.

1620 As for those they call on besides God, they do not create anything, but are themselves created!
1621 They are dead, not alive, and they will not know when they are resurrected.

Yeah he broke all the idols except one to make a point to his tribe that these things are useless. The only Ilah who is also a Rabb is Elohim/Allah.

They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them."

                                  2154
He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers."

                                  2155
They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?"

                                  2156
He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing) and I am a witness to this (Truth).

In the fourth ayah he says "Your lord created them" and "i am a witness".

These ayah's are talking about the idols Abraham broke.

Allah cretaed the Idols and Abraham was a witness!!!!!!!!

Umm no. The word 'fatara' means to initiate from nothing and it refers to the heavens and the earth and not the idols. The idols are brought by 'khalaqa' or to create and usually it needs raw materials first. God is the only 'fater' originator. No being other than God can be a 'fater'. But you can do 'khalq'. When you do it, it is also attributed to God! and so God is the creator of all things though we create things ourselves. Another example is that in war, God says that its not us who throw the arrow but it is God!

                                    Peace,

So Abraham witnessed the creation of the heavens and the earth, and i thought men came millions of years after.

The word witness doesn't always mean to physically see. For example the followers of Jesus said

353 "Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness."

Or the ones who believed in Mohammed

583 And when they listen to the revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognise the truth they pray "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses.

These people have faith but they will bear witness. How is that possible. To resolve this delimmna. God's signs are obvious so people who have faith simply recognized the evidence and will bear witness. So if you look at the heavens and the earth, it's pretty obvious that there is one creator so Abraham is a witness to this.

                                        Peace,

You have to see/ be present- to witness anything.

                                          352
When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples "We are Allah's helpers We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims.
                                          353
"Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness."

                                          583
"Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness."

As you see above they are asking Jesus to be their witness to their being muslim.
Next they are being witness to the revelation and Jesus.

again in 583 they are witnessing the revelation they are recieving and the messengership.

Where is it based on faith alone as you said, especialy when you haven't seen what you are witnessing?
