"No thing is holy" - Can people unite around this principle?
-
"No thing is holy" -
Disagree. "Holy" does not necessarily mean "godly" (meaning from GOD) but anything or someone that/who is cherished or treasured. On the contrary, one of the several meanings of "holy" is also to inspire/instill fear or grave distress, LOL! rotflCan people unite around this principle?
Obviously and certainly NOT. What is "holy" to you, may not be "holy" to me or others, thus unison is unwarranted. There's nothing on earth that unites ALL MUSLIMS TOGETHER, let alone ALL HUMANS. -
Peace,
Any thoughts would be welcome...
Some people can, and I agree with you, it is not material things that are holy, but values, ideals, closeness to God. But unfortunately this isn't something most people follow through on, partly because we need material things to survive. Money isn't holy but it is very useful. And I don't view poverty as holy. There's nothing sacred about squalor.

For me saying "No thing is holy" is just another way to say "to not associate any thing with the god", but in a more direct and clear English language. I agree that it is hard for some to comply with this principle as most people consider material things as precious or even foolishly divine.
Prissy,
Come to think of it, I believe MONEY is EVERYTHING, perhaps even greater than or equal to GOD/SATAN and no less. So yeah, its holier than thou.
Please be aware that you might be deeply affected if you ever come to loose your god (money). Also keep in mind that when your life on this earth is over, no amount of money (or material things) would serve you after that. You'd better cherish the imperishable.

Realistically, technically and logically speaking, EVERYONE ON EARTH worries about HERE AND NOW (before death), not THERE AND THEN (afterlife) and the BIGGEST worry is finance (MONEY) with or without this fallacious God business of the religious impressionists and thumping advocoates -
Peace, "No thing is holy" - Can people unite around this principle?
Any thoughts would be welcome...Well, if from "holy" you mean "unquestioned" or "sacred" then the very assertion "No thing is holy" becomes holy or sacred. So, you cannot escape from having a holy premise or axiom.
Besides, why uniting people should be our "holy goal"? If unity would mean compromising the truth, then, Heaven No! If the unity of people was the top goal of science, today we would be living almost like cavemen )

Only those who don't have money worry about it. Just look at these celebrities and how depressed many of them are even if they have tons of money. Mike Tyson comes to minds, so does Elton John and Marlyn Monroe. The problem of course is that when you die money is absolutely meaningless. I love the story of
Luke 1619-31 (King James Version)
19There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day
20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom the rich man also died, and was buried;
23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house
28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30And he said, Nay, father Abraham but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

EdipPeace Edip,
It is not a holy premise but a logical one, and it is open to debate.
And why uniting people? to overcome the many means of segregation that are causing much destruction.
