    How's it goin everyone

Based on what i know, i may be wrong, but in Islam anything that changes the minds train of thought or alters the way you think is Haram. May it be alcohol or anythign else. Marijuana is a plant, completely natural and although i believe it is Haram i dont understand why. Intent is a huge factor in Islam and if one smokes because it helps them relax when they are really stressed or even if one smokes because it helps them think clearer, then what? The truth is although pot is portrayed as this terrible substance, which makes you act goofy, there are many who find advantages in its use.
    So now what?

      intoxicant = kh - m - r
=COVER/conceal/veil, becoming changed/altered from a former state/condition, any intoxicating thing that clouds/obscures the intellect, mixed/mingled/incorporated/blended, intoxication/wine/grapes, make-up, come upon secretly/unexpectedly, crowding of people, odour of perfume, women's head COVER, man's turban, something fermented/matured.

I see that intoxicant is substance which 1) changes condition AND 2) clouds/obscures intellect.
But cannabis is a substant which 1) changes condition AND 2) makes intellect clearer / lift the veil.

So cannabis is exactly the opposite to what is ?intoxicant`.

If I should describe what are the effects of cannabis, first thing I would say, is that the veil is gone. Things comes clear, it makes you feel good and happy because you see the blessings of God more clearly in a bigger picture and this makes you feel appreciative to Almighty.
I see cannabis as God?s blessing to mankind.
Also many religions concider cannabis as a religious sacrament.

If you meet someone who is eager to prohibit God given fruits in the name of God then remember what the quran says

1432 God is the One who created the heavens and the Earth, and He sent down water from the sky and brought out fruits as provisions for you, and He committed for you the ships to run in the sea by His command, and He committed for you the rivers.
1059 Say ?Have you seen what God has sent down to you from provisions, then you made some of it forbidden and some lawful?? Say ?Did God authorize you, or did you invent lies against God??

There are numerous sites about the benefits and harms of Marijuhana. Here is one from
        http//faculty.washington.edu/chudler/mari.html

Effects of Marijuana on the Nervous System

THC acts on "cannabinoid" receptors which are found on neurons in many places in the brain. These brain areas are involved in memory (the hippocampus), concentration (cerebral cortex), perception (sensory portions of the cerebral cortex) and movement (the cerebellum, substantia nigra, globus pallidus). When THC activates cannabinoid receptors, it interfers with the normal functioning of these brain areas. In low to medium doses, marijuana causes

        • relaxation

        • reduced coordination

        • reduced blood pressure

        • sleepiness

        • disruption in attention

an altered sense of time and space...a good reason not to drive or operate machinery while under the influence.
In high doses, marijuana can cause

        • hallucinations

        • delusions

        • impaired memory

        • disorientation

        .

Scientists have known for a long time that THC interacted with cannabinoid receptors in the brain, but did not know why the brain would have such receptors. They thought that the brain must make some kind of substance that naturally acted on these receptors. In 1992, they found the answer...anandamide. Anandamide is the brain's own THC (just like "endorphin" is the brain's own morphine). Still, scientists are not sure what the function of anandamide is in the normal brain.

The effects of marijuana start as soon as 1-10 minutes after it is taken and can last 3 to 4 hours or even longer. Experiments have shown that THC can affect two neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine. Serotonin and GABA levels may also be altered.

Whether marijuana can produce addiction is controversial. Also controversial is whether marijuana causes long-term mental abnormalities. Only future research will give us the answers. It is interesting to note that there are NO documented cases of a fatal overdose produced by marijuana. However, because there is a high level of tar and other chemicals in marijuana, smoking it is similar to smoking cigarettes. The lungs get a big dose of chemicals that increase the chances of lung problems and cancer later in life.

Though, personally, I am against criminalization of intoxicants (alcohol and mind altering drugs), I believe that their harm is bigger to the individual and the society.

        Peace,
        Edip

I agree with Edip. They have some benefits but overall their harm is greater but it does change from individual to individual. Alcohol is particularly problematic, much more than marijuana. It makes people fight and act incoherently. Alcohol also is responsible for many road accidents. It must be consumed in moderation. Banning it is a waste of time and its a lazy way to solve problems. Marijuana and alcohol should be regulated and not banned.

Money is far more dangerous than alcohol and cause fitna a lot more than alcohol, but we don't ban it. But people should be moderate about it and not steal and kill for money. Women also can cause fitna. Banning is never a solution but society should regulate these type of things.

                Peace,
                Respectfully.

There are plenty of ways to be relaxed of to find joy and extend pleaseure. Marijuana is not one of them because it causes more harm then good.
Sometimes a simple dialogue with another individual causes me more pleasure then making money.
There are times when one hour passes like ten minutes just because we talk about Islam and Quranic issues.
Eating a muffin here makes me feel better then smoking marijuana.

I've never tried any illegal drugs, i've never smoked nor drank alcohol and i've got 0 tattoos and 0 piercings.
I find joy, pleasure and excitment elsewhere.

                Glory be to our God.
                Peace.

this is not true. cannabis is a healing herb, which is nominated to number one out of all the herbs on the planet by ancients healers as well as many nowadays scientists.

as you have not tryed cannabis and dont know its effects, you just follow conjecture. and conjecture is no substitute for the truth...

everything you mentioned becomes even more enjoyable when high.

btw high is a very good word to describe the feeling. like from some high platform you see more and farer, so is the case with mental high - you see more, bigger picture.

                  God is the Most High.

Cannabis ('ganja&#039 is illegal in my country, but interestingly it is used as a herb in traditional cooking in one province here. That province, by the way, is the only one in which sharia is the legal system.

So I'm assuming the local ulama there did not view ganja as haram.

I think the great reading tells us that the only vices that are also crimes are those that affect the bodies and property of other people. Yes, there are chastity laws in the great reading, but it is my opinion that they apply only to those who willingly come under the great reading's jurisdiction.

Marijuana creates false sense of being; this sense is dangerous to himself and for the society in which he is living. It is like living dead. So what is your opinion?

"They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say ?In them is great harm, and a benefit for the people; but their harm is greater than their benefit.? And they ask you how much are they to give, Say ?The excess.? It is thus that God clarifies for you the revelations that you may think." (2219)

Bro Layth's article on Alcohol is quite fitting on this subject. Good exposition. I guess it would be the same for intoxicants such as marijuana.

(lol) dude, I have smoked more breeds of bud in my 24 years then you probably will in your life. (I can guarantee you this, even though I have never met you). The first time I dropped Acid I was 17... So spare me the lecture on drugs bro If your argument of "lifting the veil" was valid, then marijuana isn't even comparable to some of the other chemical drugs which I (used to believe) were much better for this purpose.

It was only 3 years ago that I understood how the harm of drugs is more then their benefit... There is no "lifting the veil"... You are kidding yourself (like I was) thinking that you can achieve esoteric knowledge of reality by using drugs. There is only one way to "lift the veil" and that requires an actual struggle... There are no short-cuts...

So please, stop misleading yourself, and others about these things. And I say this to you not because I want to disrespect you bro, but because I used to tell people these exact things which you are telling me... And believe me, its all BS.... I lost 10 years of my life because of this stuff... (half of them I can't even remember)

                                    hey
you should understand that there is very big difference between

                                    • consuming God given plant cannabis - without alc, with fresh fruits, gym, etc - healty.
                                    • or consuming synthetically manipulated manmade products AND cannabis.

do you catch the difference between God given plant (a fruit) and manmade poison?

1432 God is the One who created the heavens and the Earth, and He sent down water from the sky and brought out fruits as provisions for you, and He committed for you the ships to run in the sea by His command, and He committed for you the rivers.
1433 And He committed for you the sun and the moon, both in continuity; and He committed for you the night and the day.
1434 And He gave you all that you have asked Him. And if you were to count God?s blessings, you will never fathom them. The human is indeed transgressing, disbelieving.

One must understand that the fruits are God?s provisions and gifts.
It?s a place to be grateful for His blessings.

Note there is not many clearer ways to put it in words.

And ofcourse - its all about balance.
If you could not keep the balance and do all things all the time, its simply too much. As would also be the case with any other substant. If you eat sugar all day, its not normal, also. You know, there were times, when salt eating was addiction.

you should understand that there is very big difference between

                                      • consuming God given plant cannabis - without alc, with fresh fruits, gym, etc - healty.
                                      • or consuming synthetically manipulated manmade products AND cannabis.

Invalid argument, alcoholic drinks also come from a "God given plants," remember?
Wine, Vodka, Beer, Rum... they all come from natural, God made substances. That has nothing to do with it.
That is all besides the point. The point is that the effects of weed cloud the mind.
So they are included in the definition of "khamr", it is THAT simple.

Do you know that right now, in Canada, you can get charged for DUI (Driving Under the Influence) for weed?

                                        p.s.

By the way, opium also comes from a natural "God given plant"...
                                        So does cocaine...

                                          Peace,
                                          Respectfully.

Well said, i totally forgot about this verse but it fits, AlhamdilAllah, Thank God, Hvala Bogu.
                                          God bless you.

                                          Peace.
