              Peace,

              Ayman

I've read your article "What's in the name" and I find your interpretation of 'al masjid al haram' quite logical. However, what do you say to 4827, which talks about entering al masjid al haram, 2191 which talks about fighting at al masjid al haram, and 2225, which says that there are visitors to it and that there are people in it? (Interesting that the verses after that talk about "al bayt" and the "hajj".)

Also, why would God mention turning east and west in 2177?

2177 Piety is not to turn your faces towards the east and the west, but...

Also, what do you say about the following?

2144 We see the shifting of your face towards the sky; We will thus set for you a qiblah that will be pleasing to you...

                Peace Progressive1993,

I've read your article "What's in the name" and I find your interpretation of 'al masjid al haram' quite logical. However, what do you say to 4827, which talks about entering al masjid al haram,

This is the same as 1102 talking about people entering the god's obligation/"deen"

                1. And you see the people entering into the god?s obligation in flocks.

2191 which talks about fighting at al masjid al haram,

Same as 608-9 which talk about fighting in the god's obligation/"deen"

                1. The god does not forbid you from those who have not fought you in your obligation, nor drove you out of your homes, and that you deal kindly and equitably with them, for the god loves those who are equitable.

and 2225, which says that there are visitors to it and that there are people in it? (Interesting that the verses after that talk about "al bayt" and the "hajj".)

There is no ?visitors? in 2225. It should be ?those who are away? from it. Remember 2142-150 talking about from wherever you go out and wherever you are, you shall turn your direction toward it.

There are also no people ?in it? but there are people who are ?devoted? to it. Please see how the same term ?3akifin? is used in 7138, 2097, 2152, 2187, 2125, 2091, and 2671

                007.138
YUSUFALI We took the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea. They came upon a people devoted entirely to some idols they had. They said "O Moses! fashion for us a god like unto the gods they have." He said "Surely ye are a people without knowledge.

                020.097
YUSUFALI (Moses) said "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!"

                021.052
YUSUFALI Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?"

                020.091
YUSUFALI They had said "We will not abandon this cult, but we will devote ourselves to it until Moses returns to us."

                026.071
PICKTHAL They said We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them.

Also, why would God mention turning east and west in 2177?
2177 Piety is not to turn your faces towards the east and the west, but...

Because 2177 is talking about physical direction. Piety is not to turn towards a physical direction.

Also, what do you say about the following?
2144 We see the shifting of your face towards the sky; We will thus set for you a qiblah that will be pleasing to you...

This is the situation that the prophet was not pleased with. One?s direction turning in the sky is what actually happens for all people who face a physical direction since the earth is a rotating sphere and strictly speaking our field of view that we are ?physically facing? does not bend and go below the horizon. So people who try to face a physical object below the horizon are actually facing random regions in space that rotate as the earth is rotating.

                Peace,

                Ayman

320 and when they argue with thee, say i have surrendered my face to allah and those who follow me

Islam is all about surrendering mentally and physically to allah. Allah is all encompassing so all physical and mental realities prostrate to allah.

4125 And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face to allah and he is a good doer and follows the religion of abraham the upright and allah did take abraham as a friend
4126 And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth and allah is ever encompassing all things

919 do you consider the providing of drinking water to pilgrims and the maintenance of the sacred mosque as equal to the worth of those who believe in allah and the last day. and fight (physically and mentally) in the cause of allah? they are not equal before allah and allah guides not those people who are the cruel ones.
