belH,
And complete the Pilgrimage and the visit for God.
A pilgrim is one who is on the pilgrimage, starting at any point of time in his life - in the path of Allah alone freeing himself from all sorts of shirk or association to Allah. Towards this end they face the inimical forces of shaitan putting him to all sorts of difficulties and laying painful obstructions in the path of Allah. It is life and death journey in the cause of Allah. When they die in the struggle, they are only rewarded the gardens; or if they over power the evil forces they are made inheritors of the bounties of Allah in this world itself. So the visit of God is certain when you certainly committed to the visit for the God. The visit of the God is Haj; and the commitment for the visit for the God is Umra.
Peace,
Sorry, I have not checked this thread lately.2-196 is a well-established and clear verse...it shows that Pilgrim is to a Precise Place that ones would need to travel to. what you indicated above is great, but has nothing to do with the verse.
Now Allah says the following
9 19 What! do you make the giving of drink to the pilgrims and the guarding of the Sacred Mosque like him who believes in Allah and the latter day and strives hard in Allah's way? They are not equal with Allah; and Allah does not guide the unjust people.
Whoso is of the belief that visiting the sacred mosque or guarding the sacred mosque or cleaning up the sacred mosque shall satisfy Allah, they are gravely mistaken. For Allah does say they are people unjust and He does not guide the unjust people.
What is your opinion on this Haj and Umra? Is it visiting 'sacred mosque' is visiting Allah? Or is it the way our prophets have guided us? Allah Himself addresses such ritualistic people as unjust? I will embark on the verses 2 196, 2 197 to 203 based on what you have to say on this post.
Peace.
This verse talks about the people who were working to serve the visitors (Hajj); apparently these people though by doing so, they are true believers, of which God disagrees...

2 196
And complete the 'Hajj' and 'umra' in the service of Allah.
belH,
If it is a clear verse, can you explain the meaning of the two words haj and umra from within the Quran itself? Allah has not created even heavens and earth and what is in between in vain; when such is Allah's creation, it is very unlikely that the words of Quran which is the Guidance for the beings of the universes, goes without meanings precise, suitable for occasions and situations of all times, from the inception of the universe till the last day. And while Islam rests in belief; and belief is only with regard to unseen for there is no need to believe when things are apparently there as materials. From Iman to Umra and Haj till the belief in the last day is based on one's mind strength in Allah. How do we know now whether 2 196 is a muhkamat or mutashabihat verse, when Allah had not defined them or demarcated between them in Quran? Do we believe in that when the very first requirement of a muslim is Iman i.e., believing in the God unseen, the one supposed to be the last duty of a mumin shall end up in rituals and rites?
Peace.

belH,
Can there be anything like masjid elharam? Then what is masjid? How do we believe that a masjid in mecca is pure and all other masjids all through the world are haram and impure? If all masjids belong to Allah, where is the question of masjid elharam as existing somewhere in mecca? Is there anything like this we find in Quran? Are we sure of that all the masjids throughout the world are prohibited mosques and the one in Mecca alone is holy? And Allah had not specified the 4 restricted months. So what are they? It is mutashabihat verse. Only Allah knows the real meaning of it. So we follow not the majority; and we have to follow only what is cleared to our heart, by Allah.
17 36
And follow not that of which you have not the knowledge; surely the hearing and the sight and the heart, all of these, shall be questioned about that.Peace.

Salaam BelH
Would you please explain (name ) four restricted months ?
ThanksPeace
I do not have sound knowledge in this issue, but I will do my best91 This is a revocation from God and His messenger to those with whom you have made a treaty from among those who have set up partners.
92 Therefore, roam the land for four months and know that you will not escape God, and that God will humiliate the rejecters.
93 And a declaration from God and His messenger to the people on the day of the greater Pilgrimage ?That God and His messenger are innocent from all those who set up partners.? If you repent, then it is better for you, and if you turn away, then know that you will not escape God. And give news to those who have rejected of a painful retribution.
94 Except for those with whom you had a treaty from among those who have set up partners if they did not reduce anything from it nor did they plan to attack you; you shall continue the treaty with them until its expiry. God loves the righteous.
95 So when the restricted months have passed, then you may kill those who have set up partners wherever you find them, and take them, and surround them, and stand against them at every point. If they repent, and uphold the communion, and contribute towards betterment, then you shall leave them alone. God is Forgiving, Merciful.According to the above, the following can be concluded
the four restricted months are consecutive (Lunar Months)
The four month end After Pilgrim
The month of Ramadan is one of these monthsMoreover, I believe that the time of Ramadan has been preserved, and the Shia and Suna time is what I follow. Thus, Ramadan is the beginning of the Four Months.
Ramadan
Shawwal

I do not believe that the Masjed in Macca is the one. You can read more about my opinion in this topic here

There was literally an argument over the past histories and things based on hadiths which shall carry no meaning. It will be appreciated if there is any fresh exchange, for any person evolves by the day.

I agree with you that Hadith should not be the main source of our religion.
Now, if you have a solid verse that disapprove the Hajj to be to the Masjed Elharam that is in Jerusalem, please provide (trust me, I'm very fixable in my brain and not hardwired by Hadith Teachings).

In free-minds, I am looking forward to fresh-minds. Having disposed of hadiths; and having dispensed with the histories and theories, as we read through Quran all afresh we do not find Jerusalem or Mecca mentioned in it as places of pilgrimage. Further, we shall have to know what pilgrimage means from the point of Quran, the only Guide. Our wisdom shall have to get better by the day is Allah's words and promise for us. So we shall have fresh minds always; and this is possible only when we discard the populist, stale and standard habitual following. I will appreciate your personal views. Allah will question us individually on the Last Day, and not as Jamaaths. Shun the Jamaaths for they are shams! As long as we stay as an individual without adherence to the false strength in group understanding, we are sure we are individually in direct connection with Allah, for the best of all Guidance.
Pilgrimage Setting out to witness the evidences of the Truth of the words of Allah everywhere and in every direction. And the reason why we shall set out is to strengthen our Iman in the Guidance of Allah to explore and inherit the wisdom and glory of the universes that Allah had created for us in order that they become subservient to us. This is Allah's Straight path! The many many ayats that begin with the words "Have you not seen traveling around the earth?" indicate the necessity for the pilgrimage haply we fear and guard off evil. For this we need not go traveling far away for Allah says You are walking upon those perished villages and towns and cities which We destroyed on account of their own evil. The pilgrimage is now so near and close, as our special senses get acute in its observation seeking evidences of Allah in whatever we see, hear, smell.
Allah has not created heavens and earth and what is in between in vain; when such is Allah's creation, it is very unlikely that the words of Quran which are the Guidance for the beings of the universes, go without meanings precise, suitable for occasions and situations of all times, from the inception of the universe till the last day. And while Islam rests in belief; and belief is only with regard to unseen for there is no need to believe when things are apparently there as materials. From keeping up Iman to completing Umra and Haj and the belief in the last day is based on one's mind strength in Allah. No way! We cannot follow the crowd! Let us from the point of individuality exchange glad tidings and good omen.
With this in mind Let us begin our pilgrimage from 2196
Complete the 'Hajj' and 'umra' in the service of Allah.
Complete the 'pilgrimage' and 'visit' for Allah.Hajj is the pilgrimage to strengthen belief in the One and the Only Allah; and
Umra is the unfailing efforts towards that end.Peace.

Peace everyone,
drfazl, the words you wrote are not related to the Haj and umra verses. Please try to explain the proceeding verses in order to understand that umra and hajj have there unique rituals, which require us to do the following2196 And complete the Pilgrimage and the visit for God. But, if you are prevented, then make what is affordable of donation, and do not shave your heads until the donation reaches its destination; but whoever of you is ill or has an affliction to his head, then he may redeem by fasting or giving a charity or a rite. But if you are able, then whoever continues the visit until the Pilgrimage, then he shall provide what is affordable of donation; but for he who cannot find anything, then he must fast for three days during the Pilgrimage and seven when he returns; this will make a complete ten; this is for those whose family is not present at the Sacred Temple. And be aware of God, and know that God is severe in retribution.
2197 The Pilgrimage months are made known. So whosoever decides to perform the Pilgrimage therein, then there shall be no "Rafth", nor vileness, nor baseless argument in the Pilgrimage. And any good that you do, God is aware of it; and bring provisions for yourselves, though the best provision is righteousness; and be aware of Me O people of understanding.
2198 There is no sin upon you to seek goodness from your Lord. So when you disperse from Arafaat, then remember God at the symbol which is restricted, and remember Him as He has guided you; for you were straying before that.
2199 Then you shall disperse from where the people dispersed, and seek God?s forgiveness; God is surely Forgiving, Merciful.
2200 When you have completed your rites, then remember God as you remember your fathers or even greater. From among the people are those who say ?Our Lord, give us from this world!?, but in the Hereafter he has no part.
2201 And some of them say ?Our Lord, give us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and spare us from the retribution of the Fire.?
2202 These will have a benefit for what they have gained; and God is quick in judgment.
2203 And remember God during a few number of days. Whoever hurries to two days, there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays, there is no sin upon him if he is being righteous. And be aware of God, and know that it is to Him that you will be gathered. What do you think?

May I ask you to provide verses that say The Straight Path to Allah is rituals and the ceremonial rites does please Him. And also I need an answer from you when nothing in the heavens and in the earth and whatever in between created in vain, will rituals and rites be accepted by Allah as the most important elements of Islam? My take is no! Based on 'Islam is no rituals and rites' alone I can explain all the ayats you have written from 2 196 onwards. But I have to restrain from going any further if your view is quite opposite to that of mine i.e., rituals and rites are no Islam.

I was looking at all the meanings in Lanes under Haj and the first given meaning is " He repaired, or betook himself,to, or towards, syn. j., (E, A, Mgh, Msb,
1~,) a person (S, A, Mgh) , in an absolute sense" Repaired here seem possibly in the line of strengthening also, as noted in the above paragraphs. Also if you read further on the same page in Lanes, shaving the head is described as probing the injury of head to cure it ( I feel it could mean curing the ills of our minds ).If you all read the following four pages ( Links given for your ease ) it gives all the classical usage of the word and the later usage of the word. We need to carefully read these pages and see where it fits the classical meaning at that time and what ever is closest to the possible truth. It may appear long and confusing , but probing the usage gently will ease it off.

We have to think without preconceived notions and take help from all sources and reflect upon it and pray for the guidance, and we will get it.

Peace darfzl,
Rituals = Prescribed ACTION
Rituals = Amal salehatBased on the above meanings of the Word, I can assure you that Islam Or Iman (Submitting or Believing) is Based on Rituals. Most, if not all, the verses that describe Believers has two correlated Verbs
1- Amano (Believed)
2- AND Amelo Elsalehat (Acted upon the Right Action)Please look up the frequency of these two words in Quran

Brother,
How shall I take Prescribed action as mindful action? or unmindful action? Then doing good things is impossible if we are unmindful of what we do.

Belief in Allah without knowing Him or at least a few of His Attributes as Signs from Him, is not what Ibrahim, Zacchariah, Musa, Esa and other prophets and rasuls have showed us as the straight path. They had great signs from Allah before they actually became faithful and believers.

I agree; but when they became believers, they Acted upon the Prescribed Actions.
No one can be a true believer without performing what God ordered Him or Her to do (e.g., pay Charity, Pray, Fast, Stop himself from committing Sins, Pilgrim).

Peace. It is only pertinent to understand that even for believing in Allah the prophets and the messengers needed evidences for His Attributes - for they did not follow Him blindly in blind faith. Allah also did not want them to believe in Him blindly; He obliged their need and showed all of them His Attributes. Then they followed Him as He conducted them all in the path of Islam giving them wisdom and knowledge as a sign of Truth for them, so that their hearts are at peace i.e., at salaam with Him all the way. Salaam is important to follow Islam. Without salaam, no Islam. Prescribed Action meaninglessly, devoid of knowledge and wisdom is no solace to the heart, thus Islam is thwarted by rituals and rites. This is no islam. This is no God's Way. And this cannot be following Allah. In this way I see the hereafter gloomy.
Regards.

Ibrahim's Stand
Ibrahim used properly, the God given insight and through the wisdom he received from his God he was sure to dismiss the stars, the moon and the sun as anything at all before Him, and before him. And Ibrahim also understood that the heavens and the earth and everything in between are subservient to His Servants, to the most obedient and to the submissive by His Leave. And thus they did for Ibrahim! He could even make the birds to come to him flying by His Leave, alive, even after he made them into pieces and throw them on to the mountains.
We do not follow the stand of Ibrahim to get near to Allah and thus we cease to be believers; even for fasting 'muslims' sight the moon god first. Who taught this? Bukhari? Very bad and sad! Let us see what is in store for us
3 191 Those who remember Allah standing and sitting and lying on their sides and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth Our Lord! Thou hast not created this in vain! Glory be to Thee; save us then from the chastisement of the fire
If we give any importance to the moon anymore to remember or to thank Allah by way of fasting, then hell fire is sufficient for us. Take it palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq - the fire balls from the sky keep falling continuously upon those 'muslims'. Allah takes no care of them; neither does He make any note of them at all. This is because they do not follow 3 191 but followed the gutter called the hadiths in preference to Quran. They are so contemptuously impure on account of this that Allah curses them all.
Peace.
