    Salam,

I had always thought of Libya and Libyans as Sunnis but according to a few websites, like this one http//www.country-data.com/cgi-bin/query/r-8219.html, Gaddafi only follows the Quran alone and that the Green Book is based on the Quran alone too. I've never read the Green Book but you can read it here http//www.geocities.com/Athens/8744/readgb.htm
Its kinda like a guide book to the country's law, governing, economy and society.
In my opinion Gaddafi stands out from the Arab leaders and I back him when he argued with the Saudi king http//www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/qatar/5079290/Muammar-Gaddafi-accuses-Saudi-Arabias-King-Abdullah-of-lying-at-Arab-summit.html
There is a link between Gaddafi and Rashah Khalifa too. Rashad Khalifa worked for Gaddafi as a science advisor in the early 70's, slightly after Gaddafi re-evaluated the law of Libya to fit the shariah of the Quran alone.
Hope it makes sense as its 130 am and I'm falling asleep
    Whadyathink?

      Peace,

Gaddafi is a very interesting character. He was also one of the first people to suggest the 1 state solution for the Palestinian Israeli conflict.

However, despite all the wise words he hits us with from time to time, he does go and do ridiculous things like hiring bikini clad women as body guards... =P

I did a google search and can't see any bikinis!
I find it gross how some websites talk about the 'virgin' body guards as if it is something perverted.
Obviously they are muslim unmarried women, so in most cases, they would be virgins. Dont think he hired them because he thought mmmm.... virgins. lol

In fact his female body guards are called "amazon women", which maybe a bad translation or a mix-up with "amaziqi", which is a berber tribe of north africa bedouins; and they are respectfully dressed. I remember that he once said he chose women because they are more trustworthy and unlikely to betray him (or because women are usually not ambitious to rule)..something within these lines.

Its tamazight (gh pronounced as the Arabic 'ghain' letter), it doesn't been Bedouin, it means Berber, who are the original inhabitants of N. Africa. Libyan families are quite traditional so even if a woman is career-minded, you can never find a woman ambititious enough to rule. Once they get married, they start having other commitments so they don't focus on their careers as much. But I don't think all women are trustworthy just as not all men are trustworthy.

Lol you're welcome I'm going to have a read through them too. My mum said she used to read them in school when she was younger but they don't read them in schools anymore.
There was once a photo of him with 'Miss Libya'. There aren't even beauty pagents in Libya!

                    Peace,

Might be as well a very sly and clever dictator who is still paying the price to stay in power by all means.

Who are these Arab leaders? None but tribal leaders exploiting the wealth of the nations as if it is their god damned inherited property. What nobility? How may of these noblemen are descendents of murderers? Is it noble to killl another human just because you do not agree with their God given rights.

These Arab leaders are a shame and disgrace to the Islam taught by prophet Muhammad.

The sooner the people rise against these devils, the better.

                    Godbless.

Are they really "tamazight"? I only read about them in Arabic as "Amazon women" and could not understand why they were so called. I imagined that there might be an error in back translation into Arabic, which is not unusual.

I really don't know anything about the guards and haven't read anything about them. I doubt that they are all Berber though.
                        Amazon women? No idea!

I don't know about Ghaddafi, but one of his sons (don't remember which one) gives the WORST interviews, to put it lightly. I saw an interview of him on the BBC if I remember correctly. Sounded like he had lost his mind...

                          EDIT

Another link to The Green Book. http//www.mathaba.net/gci/theory/gb.htm

                          Site seems very official.

i know that both gaddafi and his son don't use a script when they give a speech. they come in completely unprepared, so thats probably the case with the interview

It was something on the Lockerbie incident. I'll try digging it up.

Cos they're gorgeous and very deadly.

I don't get why Amazon in the modern day always means "gorgeous and very deadly" or "very tall". They were just crazy-ass warriors back in the day who'd rape men for babies. According to some of the myths anyway.
