YUSUFALI Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He over all things hath Power;-Does God have hands? No
002.079
YUSUFALI Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say"This is from Allah," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby. Can you only write with your own hand? No

YUSUFALI But they will never seek for death, on account of the (sins) which their hands have sent on before them. and Allah is well-acquainted with the wrong-doers.Is it only those things done with your hands that are sent forward? No
It is power, strength, abilities..........

YUSUFALI As to the thief, Male or female, cut off his or her hands a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime and Allah is Exalted in power.
PICKTHAL As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise.
SHAKIR And (as for) the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off their hands as a punishment for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.012.031
YUSUFALI When she heard of their malicious talk, she sent for them and prepared a
banquet for them she gave each of them a knife and she said (to Joseph), "Come out before them." When they saw him, they did extol him, and (in their amazement) cut their hands they said, "Allah preserve us! no mortal is this! this is none other than a noble angel!"
PICKTHAL And when she heard of their sly talk, she sent to them and prepared for them a cushioned couch (to lie on at the feast) and gave to every one of them a knife and said (to Joseph) Come out unto them! And when they saw him they exalted him and cut their hands, exclaiming Allah Blameless! This is no a human being. This is not other than some gracious angel.
SHAKIR So when she heard of their sly talk she sent for them and prepared for them a repast, and gave each of them a knife, and said (to Yusuf) Come forth to them. So when they saw him, they deemed him great, and cut their hands (in amazement), and said Remote is Allah (from inperfection); this is not a mortal; this is but a noble angel.Regards

Salaam my very very simple Brother/sister.
These translators are not my favorite ones. I posted them because you are very fond of Yousaf Ali.
We should not do
-The sweet I take
-The bitter I spit. This is why I requested to use "Classical Arabic dictionaries /Classical Arabic literature" to provide any evidence.I will not take even one second to accept your interpretation.

Salaam my very very simple Brother/sister.
-The sweet I take
-The bitter I spit.We should always do this, take what is good and throw away what is bad, that is what God is all about- i believe.
And do on to others what you would have them do unto you. peace
And i hope if i ever steal , i don't get my hand chopped off as i don't believe in it, but yours God forbid...... peace
Thanks.

Salaam Brother
I did not talke about 'good or bad" . I said "sweet/bitter".
Not all sweet things good (you may develop diabtes)
Not all bitter things bad (quinine in malaria is good example)
Quran guidesRegards
Come on the quran isn't talking about the taste of food but rather our actions and deeds.

Salaam Simple
The verseIt talking specifically neither about "taste" nor about "action". It is using the word "shai'un" which means "anything"

Sorry Br, I was merely trying to counter the English part of your post.
As the quran merely talks about Sweet and bitter things but obvously not the taste on the tongue but the effect of deeds.
God Bless us.
