        peace Majida,

we're just jokin around. Obviously no one here believes in the 72 virgins thing. But whoever invented that idea was a genius. i mean, who wouldn't want to die if they got 72 virgins for it?

I don't really understand why you only pointed the Arabs regarding virgins, i guess all men around the globe will like to have'm or what do you think?

anyway if you read the bible well you will see that it is too high on virgins, try it and see for yourself

                  As salamu alaykum.
                  Respectfully.

I think that men and women will get virgins.
It is said that men will get virgins and women also will get the righous companions.
See, both get what they want.

Maria, believe me, virgins from Paradise cannot be compared to virgins of Earth.
                  No offence.

                  As salamu alaykum.

                    Salam all,

To KGB I don't understand why virgins are so great? I don't like virgins and I think both the man and the female have to be virgin in that case it will be fair. I prefer someone with experience.

To Alen I can agree with you that virgins in paradise are not same as on earth. I guess the paradise reffer more to clean and humble females which are also untouched. So then lay off that sex talk about virgins in paradise. You offend them by talking like that with our dirty desires on earth.

                    Peace Maria

I don't know how the virgins of earth taste (I am sure I will like it - I am eager to know LOL), but of course I agree with brother Alen here that virgins from paradise are not comparable to virgins of earth.

Btw, if the hadith depicts virgins, Bible depicts there was a war with dragon in paradise.

REV 127 And there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
REV 128 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
REV 129 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
REV 1210 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
REV 1211 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
REV 1212 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
REV 1213 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
REV 1214 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
REV 1215 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
REV 1216 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
REV 1217 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

this is the translation of the word 'houris' - correct?

I'm very swayed by the notion that these are white raisans (ie, metaphorically good and sweet sustenance) as opposed to virgin brides as other verses in Quran tells us that the believers will be in heaven with righteous companions.

I've never been able to work out how my wife would feel if I got to heaven with her only to spend my time cavorting with virgins..... lol

there was an article posted recently (arghhh someone remind me which??) that had a link to an guy who talked about the aramaic language roots of classical arabic and how that cleared up things like the grapes vs virgins issue....

I've read that the English translations of Quran are incorrect when referring to what men will "receive" in heaven. While the Quran says virgins, others claim it was actually white raisins.

I'm curious to see what people's opinions are on this matter. If it has been discussed before, please excuse me.

                            Salaam all

The idea of "white grapes" was brought up by someone who based his theory on the fact that Arabic script at the time of Revalation was not dotted. You may notice that in Classical Arabic books where you read e.g 3ain muhmala, meaning it is a not . Imagine writing words like (home) and (we transmit) without the dots. They look alike. The same would go for (shamefull) and (heavy rain)

The problem with his theory is that he did not accomodate for the fact that a final ( &#1606 does not have the same shape as a final ( or so (grapes) and (eye) cannot be confused even without dots. A further problem is with the adjective which means "white". This is plural, and as we know, in Arabic, adjectives for non-human, even if they are plural, can not be in the plural.

The meaning of (huur 3ain), I believe, is people who have pure souls (the eye is the mirror of the personality).

I would like to add that is an adjectival idafa, and so it means literally (people whose eyes are white). Huur is an adjective for (eye) but in an adjectival idafaa it conforms with the gender and number of "people". would mean (people whose grapes are white). rotfl

i think it is just allegory at how wonderful a place/feeling paradise is.Not something specific.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, a Christoph Luxenberg, a scholar of ancient Semitic languages in Germany, argues in his book "Aramaic Reading of the Koran" that the Koran has been misread and mistranslated for centuries. He is the one who came up with (white raisins not huur 3ain); basing his theory on the Aramaic origin of Arabic and on the fact that Arabic script was not dotted; hence the confusion between 3ain and 3enab.
