Was Muhammad called Ahmad when he was born?

And when ?Isa son of Maryam said, ?Tribe of Israel, I am the Messenger of Allah to you, confirming the Torah which came before me and giving you the good news of a messenger after me whose name is Ahmad.? When he brought them the clear signs, they said, ?This is downright magic.? (Surat as-Saff, 6)

Prophet ?Isa (as) imparts the tidings that this messenger who will come after him will be called ?Ahmad.? Examination of the Qur?an as a whole shows that those verses referring to the Prophet Muhammad (saas) either use the name ?Muhammad? or else just the term ?prophet.? Nowhere in the Qur?an is the name ?Ahmad? used for the Prophet (saas). The name appears only once in the Qur?an, in a verse revealing the glad tidings of a messenger.

I have seen the argument that Ahmad is used as a verb and not noun. But the verse says his name. So maybe Ahmad means his name will be blessed or something like that. My Arabic is not good. Sunni say his actual name was Ahmad and then he was nicknamed Muhammad.

Unfortunately; nobody had Muhammad/Ahmad's birth certificate.. thus no one know for sure what's his name when he was born about 1400 years ago..

I also haven't found an evidence of a Quraish / Arabs (Middle and Southern Arabs that is) named "Muhammad" / "Ahmad" prior to Muhammad "The Prophet" time.. Thus not sure whether "Muhammad" is a common Quraish / Meccan Arabic name originally..

The oldest script that I came across that mention a similar name to Muhammad (which is Machmad) or Ahmad (which is Amed) is on the Book Of Jasher (originally written in Hebrew). Which listed the descendants of Ishmael up to certain generations..

Thus if the indication that Jesus said 'messenger after him will be named Amed', doesn't really pinpoint anything at all to a "Muhammad" guy on 600 AD (supposedly a mecca borned guy from Quraish tribe).
As Amed and also Machmad was a common name for The Ishmailites which supposedly lived in the northern part of Arabic peninsula (much farther north from mecca).

The only 'indication' derived from that statement was; Jesus was telling his Israelites follower that God will sent another messenger to them, but this time they should expect that the next messenger will came from the Ishmaelites.. (which was still their cousins anyway, and FYI a lot of Ishmaelites during Jesus's time also lived in the kanaan/near Jerusalem region, embraced Judaism, although they are known to have a separate 'group' / 'sect' different from the Israelites).
As Amed is a common name for the Ishmaelites..
