    Hi All,
As a girl i am really curious to know what is the punishment that's been mentioned in Quran for the most heinous of all crimes" Rape".I know that there are clear verses talking about fornication and adultery but Rape doesn't fall under that category as one of the person in Rape is a victim ,and it is very difficult to provide four witnesses specially if the person being abused is not in a normal psychological state, as it is very common that one goes through a lot of trauma in that process. So if we have to follow the Quran as the only guidence and law then how am i supposed to approach this matter.

The other serious problem assosiated with it is if the vicitm gets pregnant, there is a proof that she has commited sexual intercourse, and can be easily misunderstood as fornication or adultery incase if she fails to produce the witness then what is going to be her fate?I really appreciate any input that can help my understanding of islam.

      Salaam alaikum.

Her own witness is enough to avert punishment from herself.(24/8-9)

        Peace,

533 The recompense of those who fight God and His messenger, and seek to make corruption in the land, is that they will be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from alternate sides or that they be banished from the land; that is a disgrace for them in this world and in the Hereafter they will have a great retribution.

The severity of punishment would be equivalent to the severity of crime, see 4240.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Thank you all for your wonderful input.

But what i understand is there is no specific verse explaining exactly what should be done to the abuser, and what compensation is to be given to the abused.
It also makes me wonder that Quran which has been revealed in 22 years, in different time intervals(the reason being to reveal the verses related to various aspects of life and the decisions related to it) has not a single verse related to "Rape",as far as i know this crime was there from the beginning of the history to till today. In all those 22 years was there not a single case of rape? o Then one more question pops up in head, there are so many verses which talk about the personal life of Prophet like which women are lawful to him,and Allah is going to replace his wives with new ones if they annoy prophet so on,which are not relevant to the future generations, where as Rape is an important issue which can not be ignored,at least adultery and fornication has two consenting adults involved, but in rape one is the abuser and one is a victim. The victim can be child also sometimes....... &
how come there is not a single decisive verse related to this issue?

seriously this question is eating my mind... brickwall

              Peace Pavani,

how come there is not a single decisive verse related to this issue?

Is rape not making corruption in the land?

Does this not tell you EXACTLY what should be done?

533 The recompense of those who fight God and His messenger, and seek to make corruption in the land, is that they will be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from alternate sides or that they be banished from the land; that is a disgrace for them in this world and in the Hereafter they will have a great retribution.

Are these punishments not severe enough?

Only the rape victim knows what trauma that person went through and because the recompense for a crime shall be its equivalence, the rape victim should be given the choice to choose which of the four punishments should be inflicted on the rapist killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from alternate sides or that they be banished from the land.

4240 The recompense for a crime shall be its equivalence, but whoever forgives and makes right, then his reward is upon God. He does not like the wrongdoers.

The sign before 533 also indicates to kill someone who makes corruption in the land

532 It is because of this that We have decreed for the Children of Israel ?Anyone who kills a person who has not committed murder, or who has not committed corruption in the land; then it is as if he has killed all the people! And whoever spares a life, then it is as if he has given life to all the people.? Our messengers had come to them with clarification, but many of them are, after this, still corrupting on the Earth.

So we are allowed to kill someone who has committed corruption in the land.

Those are THREE signs relevant to the issue of rape, and you still think there is not a single sign addressing this issue?

This life is just a test and not everyone might get full recompensation in this life. The perfect recompense with perfect justice will be given on the Last Day and thre is no escape from that

3185 Every soul will taste death, and you will be recompensed your dues on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever is swayed from the Fire and entered into Paradise, he has indeed won. This worldly life is nothing more than the enjoyment of vanity.

1027 As for those who earn evil, the recompense of evil will be evil like it, and they will be humiliated. They do not have any besides God as a helper. It is as if their faces have been covered by a piece of darkness from the night. These are the people of the Fire, in it they will abide.

3654 On this Day, no soul will be wronged in the least. You will be recompensed precisely for whatever you did.

4017 Today, every soul will be recompensed for what it had earned. There will be no injustice today. Truly, God is swift in reckoning.

You may wish to research the physical attack/assault / fighting verses.

                  about truthseeker11's post...

That seems quite harsh. Of course rape should be punished severely, but I think killing or even crucifiying seems very harsh. (I'm not saying that it should be punished mildly, because rape is a serious matter, and it should be punished harshly). I think maybe flogging 200 times and banishing/putting in jail should be OK or just putting the rapist in jail for a long time would be the modern-day equivalent. Maybe also a programm to rehabilitate/socialize the person again.

                  Peace

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

                    Peace progressive.
Flogging is the punishment of Zina not that of rape.
In Arabic rape is called and this term is not used by the Quran.
Why do we have sympathies with criminals why not with the victims ?

I know, but i said 200, not 100. Plus jail. The Quran says that we should give the criminals an equal punishment as their crimes. Killing is not the right option, it is not equal to rape. Jail, flogging, re-socializing is the better option. The killing and crucifying seems very harsh to me. Don't people deserve a second chance in your opinion??

I know that rape is a VERY serious crime and that the people should deserve A HARSH, but equal punishment as their crime.

Do you think that killing is the right punishment? Is this equal to rape? The Quran says that criminals should get a punishment that is equal to the crime. Capital punishment and death penalty is discouraged.

                      1. O you who believe, equivalence is
the law decreed for you when
                        dealing with murder--the free
for the free, the slave for the slave,
the female for the female. If one is
                        pardoned by the victim's kin,
an appreciative response is in order,
                        and an equitable compensation
shall be paid. This is an alleviation
from your Lord and mercy. Anyone
                        who transgresses beyond this incurs
                        a painful retribution.

besides, this is used with murder, which means that capital punishment is usually for murderers - thats it.

Rape is a horrible crime..dont get me wrong. I do not want to defend that crime or any rapists. I only judge by the Quran and by reason. Find one verse in the Qran that says to kill rapists. ONE VERSE. (Besides the mischief maker verse counts for terrorists, corrupt leaders, etc.)

you, O you who possess intelligence,
                              that you may be righteous.

besides, this is used with murder, which means that capital punishment is usually for murderers - thats it.

                            Peace

Of course the original language is arabic.
The interpretations of people who speak arabic is also their point of view. People dont interpret the Quran in the same way. My point with the previous post was to display that it does not matter if your an arab or not or if you know arabic or not. It is a healing for all people, which is what God said, believe it or not.

As for the interpretations...I consult more than just one translations. I dont just rely on the interpretation/translation of one person. An arabic-speaker could just as well manipulate the meaning of the Quran when speaking and trying to interpret/explain verses from the Quran.

Anyways..can you just give the a translation of the mentioned phrase/verse?

                                          Peace
