    Peace

If being a "Believer" is higer in status than a "peacemaker/submitter" , than why is it the already believing "believers" are asked to submit again as in 3102 ?

    Peace

"O you who believe! be careful of Allah with the care which is due to Him, and do not die unless you are Muslims" (3102).

God is warning believers to continue their submission, which they started before becoming believers, and not fall into Sherk (associating with God what He did not reveal to them in His Book). As we all know, God Told us that most Believers fall into Sherk (12-106). Even Prophet are warn to not fall into this great Sin that would make them NON MOSLEM
2887 Nor shall you be diverted from God's revelations, after they have come to you.

And invite to your Lord. And do not be of those who are Moshrekeen.
    2887

I am aware that 4915 defines some of the atributes of a believer , and there are many more ayats that gives other atributes of a believer and if one has to be a muslim first in order to be a 'Believer' then a believer should be atomatically a muslim already .

Please refer to 6-88 and you will note that prophets were in danger of becoming nonMoslems--Moshrkeen.

There are other verses warning us about falling into disbelief after revelation come to us , these are the verses et al

" And surely they had purposed to turn you away from that which We have revealed to you, that you should forge against Us other than that, and then they would certainly have taken you for a friend.
" And had it not been that We had already established you, you would certainly have been near to incline to them a little; "
" In that case We would certainly have made you to taste a double (punishment) in this life and a double " ( 1773-75 ).

The deserted people say We believe. Say You do not believe but say, We submit to the rituals. For Faith has not enlightened your hearts; and if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not diminish aught of your deeds; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

          Peace.

When his Lord said to him ?Submit,? he said ?I submit to the Lord of the worlds.?
            2131

The above red arabic words refer to the true meaning of islam--Submitting to the Lord of the Worlds.

            Salaam Belal

Just because you translate it in English in this way makes it correct?
What's the meaning of "aslamtu lirabbil- 3aalameen"? How would one do it?

            Saddaqa means believed...I agree.
Therefore, Momeneen = Saddaqa "Believed" + became without doubt + strived with their money and their lives in the cause of God; hence 49-15.

Believe without doubt? How do you believe without doubt? What is it that you believe?
Saddaqa is used in the quraan. No synonymes.
How come one of God's attributes is "the believer"? (5923)

            1064
Who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear

              Peace all

What's the meaning of "aslamtu lirabbil- 3aalameen"? How would one do it?

Simply, when a person submits to God, He or She are in total obedience to God's Laws. If He or She chooses to be Obedience to Religious Lords (e.g., Suni and Shia Scholars, Elbukari) instead of God, then they fail to meet the minimum requirement--being moslem.

Believe without doubt? How do you believe without doubt? What is it that you believe?

To have no doubt that every word in the Book about the Unseen, and about God's Promises IS TRUE; and when you establish such a psychological state, your Brain will Produce emotions that will make your Soul very comfortable (State of feeling Safe) even in the face of worse disasters. And once you accomplish such a state, you will be ready to face the entire world by confronting lies and spreading truth--hence, Messangers were, are, and will be in such a state.

How come one of God's attributes is "the believer"? (5923)

              1064
Who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear

Agree, God saves us from harms...hence, He makes us feel comfortable after being Stressed and Afraid.

Yes, mu'min is the active participle to the form IV verb aaman secure to others saftey against harm resulting from lack of basic needs.
If you are alluding to the second meaning, I do not see where it means to "believe". It breaks the verb into three components feeling the action in your heart , acknowledging it verbally ( confused and acting upon it with your senses. To me , this is the authors understanding or interpretation of the verse they are quoting (5719). This is what I call "backward explanation" of a word; that's starting from a popular understanding and then twisting the meaning of a word to accommodate such an understanding. Otherwise, why is "verbal acknowledgement" an important component of this verb? Why is action (through senses)? Isn't it to accommodate the "shahaada"?

7.120. But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration.

                      1. Saying "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,-

                      2. "The Lord of Moses and Aaron."

                      3. Said Pharaoh "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people but soon shall ye know (the consequences).

                      4. "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross."

                      5. They said "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord

                      6. "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)!

The only meaning is to believe in the High God as the sole God like Moses preached. There was nothing else the Magicians could have known but there is one God and no other and thats what they acknowledged and accepted.

Salima to be in peace ( )
aslama to make other be in peace (not to harm them) (&#1605

aamana to make other feel safe (&#1606

The difference between aamana and aslama is the difference between having all the essential secured and living in peace ( &#1591. (sorry, can't translate. Literally walking in the shadow of the wall).
According to verse 3102, the a3raab, who were described as hypocrites, were considered muslims, this is because you can do some vices as long as you do not hurt anyone else.

My understanding of the verse is that it speaks about the way we should die we should not die by being aggressive, in a fight with someone for trivial cause, in an ulawful war...etc where we would casue unnecessary, unjustified harm to others.

                            salaam samia,

interesting post. i have been spending much time pondering over the words stemming from and and perhaps you could give some pointers or comments regarding the followings

                            • a 'mu'min' is a person who believes or a believer in the singularity of God and the last day. from the state of a 'muslim' one then turns/progresses to be a believer in the rasool/messenger of God, malaikah/energy/power, ayat/signs/signals and kitab/messages revealed to him/her and those revealed before him/her, and so forth. from being a 'muslim' one turns/progresses into a 'muslim'.

                            • a 'muslim' is a person who is at peace with everything - one who is at peace with God & His 'sunnah/'rules & regulations'/rites/rules/method/system/style/etc.', at peace with him/her-self (with all the 'hawa&#039 and also his/her environs (other creations of God, man, man's desires, man's prejudices, 'iblis', 'shaitan', and other living things like plants and animals, the floods & droughts, health & illness, wealth & poverty, etc.).

                            • a 'muslim' is one who is contented/pleased/'redha' as s/he is - with whatever is bestowed upon/experienced by him/her for s/he treats them as something presented/given/attained to him/her by none other than the God which s/he has been a 'mu'min' in the first place. e.g.

                            • s/he has no qualms about being a male or female, or even a woman with a unmanly penis like maryam ('untha), for s/he accepts the fact that God creates people in the best state of being.

                            • s/he has no qualms about being colored, for s/he accepts the fact that God creates people to be of different tribes and languages.

                            • s/he has no qualms about being labeled mad or possessed like prophet muhammad, for s/he accepts the fact that God correctly guides those who honestly strive to be correctly guided, and God guides accordingly.

                            • so on and so forth.

essentially a 'muslim' is all about a person of peace - s/he loves peace and advocates peace, for s/he knows that God only God is the wise judge, the true teacher, the attentive listener, the dispenser and restorer of rahmah, the point of reference, the confidant and so forth.

a 'muslim' is one who enlivens none but the correct/honorable relationship with God, thus the reverence of God.
a 'muslim' is one who kills none but temptations (in self-indulgence or to kill others' self-esteem, etc.).

your comment is greatly appreciated, samia. (and others too, your comments are greatly appreciated.)

your inputs (based on the arabic grammar, language and customs) could perhaps help me in grasping the full context of these words. prior to this i used to contemplate on using 'peaceful submission/surrender/resignation' for 'islam' but the english for submission, surrender and resignation has some sort of 'negative' connotations - forced or subjugated, when God has endowed us with reasons to think that God has full knowledge on man (His creation), thus He has provided the appropriate method/way to approach Him. but throughout time, man has deviated from the correct/honorable path, thus the continued sending of messengers/'rusool', who have been persuading us to return to the correct/honorable path.

and we have learned in the qur'an and elsewhere (history), that most people are 'mu'minoon' (read above), but yet they denied the 'rusool'/messengers, the kitab/messages, the ayat/signs/signals, the directives, the types of punishments, etc. for e.g., when God has asked us to leave man's affairs (whether the are believers, 'kafiroon'/disbelievers, 'munafiqoon'/hypocrites, etc.,) to Him alone, there are yet self-proclaimed 'mu'minoon' who took matters into their own hands - punishing those adopting ideas, understandings, comprehensions, values or ways contrary to theirs'. when God has said that He would personally dispense the punishments, some people thought it was their responsibility to implement them - thus resorting to other than the qur'an for references. and most are 'mu'minoon'. thus we have learnt that a 'mu'min' is not necessarily a 'muslim', but a 'muslim' must start by being a 'mu'min'.

at times i am tempted to adopt a view that whatever label they have (non-sunni, non-muslims, etc.), as long as they advocate peace, they are 'muslim', but i have to refrain from such a stand since i know not what they have in opinions or minds - they may believe in the trinity of god, or they may have plural gods, etc.. thus i would not say if they are 'muslim' or otherwise. only God knows whatever is in their hearts and minds.

may God guide us on the correct/honorable path. insha-Allah.

                            mohammed noh

This sentence seems to be missing the main verb Is it "linguists and others believe that iman is believing"? If lisaanul 3arab was sure of this meaning, it would not tell us what those scholars "believe". Does it insert this cliche whenever it gives the meaning of a word? This is just an appeal to popularity, and has no bearing on facts.

And who are those (others)? The prophet is definitely not one of them! The prophet is supposed to have said that "the muslim is someone of whose hands and tongue people are safe " and is also supposed to have said "None of you is a mu'min until he loves for others what he/she would love for himself/herself ". . Those "linguists and others" would believe all the hadiths except these two?
