Meaning of "At-tahhiyat"

It's in the common "tashahud" before the end of the prayer during the kneeling position. I just like to start if off with "At-tahhiyat lillah wasalawat at-tayyibat" but I cannot somehow get the meaning of the word in the topic title, no matter how much I try (I read somewhere that it had the word "greetings" in it) what?! That makes no sense since the whole phrase, clearly simply translates to "so and so is for Allah". Where the heck is "greetings" anywhere? Unless greetings is supposed to be the second half of the phrase!
So, my current guess is "acts of worship and good deeds is for Allah" but I want to be sure from someone, anyone who knows the word's meaning.

If your not sure on the meaning, then why utter it??
Why not just utter everything in a language your most comfortable with? -

Why not just utter everything in a language your most comfortable with?Perhaps this verse may help you with your "Tahhiyat" if you are performing ritual 'Salat' ?
"Da
whum Fh Subnaka Al-Lahumma Wa Tayatuhum Fh Salmun Wa 'khiru Dawhum 'Ani Al-amdu Lillhi Rabbi Al-`lamna"" Their cry in it shall be Glory to Thee, O Allah! and their greeting in it shall be Peace; and the last of their cry shall be Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds " ( 1010 ) .
