assembly is obviously the best definition within the context of its mention along with an several other verses I will bring up once people start responding, unless you can prove to me monasteries and synagogues is mistranslated, but obviously they mean physical places where people gather to mention God's name, this is just my understanding that
SALAT=ASSEMBLY, or basically the learning process in group format, my understanding is that it is obviously for rememberance of God but also to establish the constant unity of a community, to gain better understanding of God's laws, etc.
