I've heard this theory before too, and it could be possible, depending on exactly how much the earth's rotation slows down and how much is has slowed down since the time of Noah...

This may also be relevant to time theory

I do not think that Noah lived 950 years, otherwise, his people would have believed in his message, thinking that he was an extraordinary creature or an angel..
      22.5

and among you there is he who is brought back to the most abject time of life, so that, after knowledge, he knoweth naught.

God did not say Noah was an exception to this rule and was able to preach and retain his knowledge after this age

And Noah had sons, do we understand that he had them at the age of ninty?

      Sister Assalamo Alaikum,

When he lived for that long the others in that area and era would be having same life span. Therefore nothing striking for any one.

The fact quoted in the verse is about the incapcitating of a person to retrieve knowledge after having gained it. It can, according to Qur'aan, and todays what we call Alzehmeir's disease, happen at the age of strong youth/becoming manly.

      Perception and meanings
Quran had described which resembles what today we call Alzheimer's disease

Quran e Majeed had informed mankind, 1400 years back, as follows

      "We will keep making it visible to the eyes of those who do not accept Quran, the signs/knowledge in the Universe and in their own bodies till it becomes evident for them that this Quran is a statement of proven fact" {Refer 4153}
The Grand Quran has informed that Allah will keep revealing, the knowledge about the universe and human body, and it will become manifest to the people that the Quran is a statement of proven fact. Why would it become manifest that the Quran is a statement of proven fact when man sees/perceives new knowledge about universe and human body? If the things mentioned in a book written earlier in time and space are subsequently found a scientific fact only then it is evident to people that the Book is really a statement of proven facts and not conjectural and presumptive.
It is a matter of common knowledge that human beings, unlike many species of animal kingdom, are born in a state that they do not have knowledge/perception of anything??????..MORE

Grand Qur'aan does not equate death with sleep.

                    It seems to in 660.

In 2259 it is specifically told that the man died.

There are many verses in which the Arabic word for "Death" is used metaphorically, like 757.

The information about eatables reflects that the same can be stored and saved from aging. Today we can save eatables for certain periods.

I doubt people who rode donkeys could preserve eatables for a hundred years. Yes, seeds and honey could have been preserved that long, but it's more likely that the man mentioned in 2259 was carrying bread.

He must have tied the donkey before taking sleep. He was a mindful person.

The quran tells us that he wondered how the god could resurrect the dead while he was passing through the town. It makes no mention of him getting off his donkey and tying it so there's no reason to believe that he did. The traditional understanding of 2259 is irrational because it assumes a supernatural event took place. The god tells us to be rational and therefore we mustn't accept the traditional interpretation of 2259.

It seems all understanding is traditional based. in 660 does not make death the synony of sleep. does not mean death, that is traditionalist understanding and totally wrong. There is thread showing difference between and death, both are distinct from each other.

Why death in 757 be taken as metamorphical? And if taken metamorphically how it could be equated with death of the living since Earth is matter.

The dead man did not preserve the things, it is told that things did not rot. Telling, atmosphere/surroundings had not aging effect on those. There is no mention of instant death the moment he reflected on the question of raising after death. It is followed by "Fa"; and the food is lying on the surface of the earth which shows he was sojourning there at the point of death. A man riding a donkey who reflects and ponders on surroundings is better than that king who had not even observed the apparent realities around him and had preconceived notions.

The Qur'aan has recorded a fact and by saying that traditionalist understanding shows it a 'supernatural event' and therefore is irrational, you in fact are declaring the words of Qur'aan as tale. Anything that does not come to comprehension or one cannot perceive or understand need not be called "supernatural". It is "supernatural" so long a man does not understand.

I did read your article on death and sleep that you posted on haqeeqat... indeed very interesting... Maybe you can paste it here for the others to benefit from. I also do not think these events are just metaphorical or supernatural. Because if that is the case, then we can say that the other stories in the Quran are also fake... So what is a point to recite a Book filled with tales and folkloric stories... Also, through archeology and science, quite a few of the events have been proven to be true.. For example, I read that the cave with the tombs of the sleepers had been found. Some Christian did found the place where Musa crossed the Red Sea and when they did some diving at these spots, they did infact witness quite some relics lying on the sea bad like chariot wheels, Horse hooves, metal fragments etc... I saw this on youtube.

Thanks. If NASA makes a little effort, I am sure they will be able to locate the "bridge-the dried up passage-each part of it like big skeleton" i.e. fringing reef, over which the Bani Israiel safely crossed over and the bridge afterwards collapsed when Pharoah accompanied with army picked up the courage to followed them having seen them crossed over safely. The collapsing was exactly for the scientific reason, like the bridge that collapsed in Japan and drowned the army brigade.

If you wish to "watch" the Exodus, place in sequence all the Ayat on the subject from beginning to end. You will find complete flow in it. "Fa" should be read "for reason/as a sequel" and you will be watching the video of the Exodus from Egypt to At Tur.

                                Peace everyone,

Don't forget, the rotation of the Earth slows each year making our years longer. The years in the old testament (Adam etc) would be so much shorter making their lifespan seem so much longer.

The above quote is a perfect example of how people violate 1736

                                http//novan.com/earth.htm

                                From the above article

"at a 100,000,000 years ago its rotation period had slowed to 23.6 hours, not that much different than the present rate."

How is the quote above from you a fact? I just showed you scientific evidence that even 100 million years ago after taking into account the slowing of the earth the day was still 23.6 hours which is not much different from nowadays. So how can what you are saying as quoted above be a fact?

Did you even bother to read and understand the complete referenced article and what 1736 says before abruptly commenting?

I do not think that Noah lived 950 years, otherwise, his people would have believed in his message, thinking that he was an extraordinary creature or an angel..
                                        22.5

and among you there is he who is brought back to the most abject time of life, so that, after knowledge, he knoweth naught.

God did not say Noah was an exception to this rule and was able to preach and retain his knowledge after this age

And Noah had sons, do we understand that he had them at the age of ninty?
                                        1172

She said Oh woe is me! Shall I bear a child when I am an old woman, and this my husband is an old man? Lo! this is a strange thing!
                                        1173

They said Wonderest thou at the commandment of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O people of the house! Lo! He is Owner of Praise, Owner of Glory!

Strange enough, the angels did not tell her about Noah, nor did she have knowledge of his giving birth in his ninties.

I think "thousand" just means "too long", just like in verse 296

And thou wilt find them greediest of mankind for life and (greedier) than the idolaters. (Each) one of them would like to be allowed to live a thousand years. And to live (a thousand years) would be no means remove him from the doom. Allah is Seer of what they do.

As for the examples of the youth in chapter 18, or the man who died for 100 years, they were not "alive", and we cannot say they lived that long.
Noah, in my opinion, lived 50 years only, though his message stayed too long after him.

Salaam Samia -- it's been awhile peace

Makes no sense for people to live that long and believe difference is between Sanat and AAam

Lanes explanation makes no sense either...

Siin-Nun-Waw = to blaze (fire, lightning), flash. sana - brightness, splendour, gleaming, light. sanatun - year, sinin - years.
There is a difference between the words sinatun & AAam (2259) both words are used for year but sinatun is used for years with drought/death/hard/distressing and AAam are those years in which there is ampleness/abundance/life/herbage.
                                        sana n.m. 2443
                                        sanah n.f. (pl. sinin) 296, 526, 7130, 105, 1242, 1247, 1712, 1811, 1825, 2040, 2247, 23112, 2618, 26205, 2914, 304, 325, 4615, 704
                                        LL, V4, p 172, 173, 174

2914 And verily, We sent Noah to his people and he remained among them thousand Sanat less fifty AAam

How can 1000 be harsh of which 50 are good years?
Likewise who desires to live a thousand harsh years?

296 if he could be granted life thousand sanat

Talks about early development stage and equates 30 shahr = 40 sanat perhaps?
4615 and bearing of him and his separation thirty shahr until when he reaches ashuddahu and reaches forty sanat

2914 And verily, We sent Noah to his people and he remained among them thousand sanat less fifty AAam then seized them the flood...

                                        30 lunar months / 40 x 1000 - 50 years = 10.639057 years Noah spent among his people.

                                          Peace,

After having a closer look at this, snh feminine cannot be the same as Aam masculine or snyn masculine plural. Here are the verses which snh appears better translated as multiples or times whereas Aam and snyn as year/s. Note that an alif following certain words like shra or Aama is like "for" used in English denotes a duration or for so many...

2259 hundred Aam/year ... then He raised him. He said, "How long you remained?"He said, "I remained a day or part a day." He said, "No, you remained hundred Aam/year so look at your food and your drink not change time ytsnh
                                          928 Aamhm/year theirs
937 they make it allowed (for) Aama/year and make it prohibited (for) Aama/year
9126 do not they see that they are tried in every Aam/year once or twice?
1249 then comes from after that Aam/year in it will be given abundant rain the people and in it they will press."
3114 and his separation in Aamyn/two years

7130 We seized people Firaun bal-snyn/in the years and scarcity of the fruits
105 & 1712 that you may know amount al-snyn/the years and the count
1242 so he remained in the prison short snyn/years
1247-49 he said, "You will sow seven snyn/years as usual so what you reap so leave it in its ears except little from what you eat. Then comes from after that seven hard consume what you advanced for them except from what you store. Then comes from after that Aam/year in it will be given abundant rain the people and in it they will press."
1811 so We cast over their ears in the cave snyn/years amount (duration in cave not specified)
1825 and they remained in their cave three hundred snyn/years and add nine
300 x 12 months + 9 solar years = 300.067473 solar years is speculation refuted in the next verse...
1826 Say, "Allah knows best about what they remained...
23112 he?ll ask "how long did you remain in the earth, amount snyn/years?
2618 he said, didn't we bring you up among us a child, and you remained among us from your life snyn/years?
26205 We let them enjoy snyn/years
                                          304 in short snyn/years
2040 so you remained snyn/years among people madyan

296 if he could be granted life thousand snh/times
526 forbidden to them forty snh/times they will wander in the earth
2247 time with your Lord like thousand snh/times from what you reckon
29149 and verily, We sent Noah to his people and he remained among them thousand snh/times only (for) fifty Aama/years
                                          50 x 12 lunar months = 48.5112456 solar years

325 time measure which is thousand snh/times from what you reckon
4615 and carrying him and his separation (for) thirty shra until when he reaches asdh and reaches forty snh/times he says, "My Lord ...
                                          Forty times/stages perhaps cell divisions since inception, 2^40 2x2x2x2... = 1 trillion (1,097,728,000,000) cells

701-4 Asked a questioner about a punishment bound to happen to the disbelievers not of it any preventer from Allah owner the ways of ascent. Ascend al-malikatu wal-ru to Him in a time is its measure fifty thousand snh/times
                                          705 So be patient...
