Please excuse my ignorance what exactly is this forum about? Is it an Islamic forum for people to discuss about Islam? I'm just curious as I really like the concept of free mind. peace

You might want to read what is on the home page.
free-minds.org is a God alone/Quran alone Islam forum. Most people (or nearly all here) do not take the Hadiths/Sunna or anything else beside the Quran as the source of their 'religion'.

I highly recommend the following video as an introduction to the Quran alone concept http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=as_7cddmBsk&feature=channel_page

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what lead you here?

              Peace

                  Peace,
                  Respectfully.

On this forum you will meet open-mided people with plenty of sense of excellent humor and you'll meet lots of friends because we accept people based on their intelligence, God willing and we don't judge others based on their names, appearance, clothes, hair, faces, beliefs and so on.

We respect each other here and we care about one another, Thank God.
That is why you are not only welcome but extra-welcome, we want to expand our circle of friends, God willing. We don't agree about everysingle thing but we respect each other and that is what matters, Thank God.

We talk about Islam, The Quran, Muslims and similar stuff.
                  Enjoy your stay.
                  Peace.

Progressive1993- I read what is on the homepage, but aren't as a Muslim aren't I supposed to take the hadiths/sunnah and the Quran also as a source of religion? As that is what I have learnt that we should.

You all seem like a pretty cool bunch. I heard about this forum on another forum. I became a Muslim not very long ago, but I don't know very much. I am not a sunni or shia. I just believe in God.

                                        And welcome to the forum.

Generally I suppose that's what muslims are taught to use as sources of guidance. I think the quran is sufficient enough in that respect, but I do not think you have to give up on reading and following these other ahadeeth. Read the quran and see if it points you to other sources of guidance due to an inefficiency to guide one on the straight path.

Well, 'what you are taught' is not always the best thing.

We are not to follow 'what we are taught' or what our parents are/were doing blindly.

2170 If they are told, "Follow what God has sent down," they say, "No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing!" What if their fathers did not reason much and were not guided?

We are to follow the Quran alone

1746 We place shields over their hearts, that they should not understand it, and deafness in their ears. If you mention your Lord in the Quran alone, they run away turning their backs in aversion.

456 These are God's signs that We recite to you with truth. So, which hadith, after God and His signs, do they acknowledge?

You all seem like a pretty cool bunch. I heard about this forum on another forum. I became a Muslim not very long ago, but I don't know very much. I am not a sunni or shia. I just believe in God.

You are definitely on the right track. Sects are forbidden.

6159 Those who have divided their system and become sects, you have nothing to do with them. Their matter will be with God, then, He will inform them of what they had done.

                                          Interestingly, sect means 'shia'.

Remember to stay on the path of 'God alone'

3945 When God alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not acknowledge the Hereafter are filled with aversion; and when others are mentioned beside Him, they rejoice!

6161 Say, "My Lord has guided me to a Straight Path. An upright system, the creed of Abraham the monotheist; he was not from those who set up partners."

6162 Say, "My bond (salat), my devotion and offerings, my life, and my death, are all to God the Lord of the worlds."

6163 "He has no partner, and this is what I was commanded; I am the first of those who have peacefully surrendered."

6164 Say, "Shall I seek other than God as a Lord when He is the Lord of everything?" Every person earns what is for it, and none will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return and He will inform you regarding your disputes.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.
