"most of them" Aktaru hum, katiyran min hum

Not mankind in general, so context must be observed. Two thirds done.

2100 Is it not that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside? Nay! the truth is most of them believe not.

3110 You are the best nation produced for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah . If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.

566 And if only they upheld the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have consumed from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them are a moderate community, but many of them - evil is that which they do.

581 And had they believed in Allah and the prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them for friends but! most of them are transgressors.

5103 Allah has not ordained a bahirah or a saibah or a wasilah or a hami but those who disbelieve fabricate a lie against Allah, and most of them do not understand.

637 And they say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, "Indeed, Allah is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know."

6111 And even if We had sent down unto them angels, and the dead had spoken unto them, and We had gathered together all things before their very eyes, they would not have believed, unless Allah willed, but most of them behave ignorantly.

7102 And We did not find for most of them any covenant; but indeed, We found most of them defiantly disobedient.

7131 But when good befell them they said This is due to us; and when evil afflicted them, they attributed it to the ill-luck of Musa and those with him; surely their evil fortune is only from Allah but most of them do not know.

834 But what plea have they that Allah should not punish them, when they keep out from the sacred Mosque - and they are not its guardians? No men can be its guardians except the righteous; but most of them do not understand.

98 How while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not observe concerning you any pact of kinship or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse, and most of them are defiantly disobedient.

1036 But most of them follow nothing but fancy truly fancy can be of no avail against truth. Verily Allah is well aware of all that they do.

1055 No doubt, surely, all that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. No doubt, surely, Allah's Promise is true. But most of them know not.

1060 And what think those who invent a lie concerning Allah (will be their plight) upon the Day of Resurrection? Lo! Allah truly is Bountiful toward mankind, but most of them give not thanks.

12106 And most of them believe not in Allah except that they attribute partners

1675 Allah presents an example a slave owned and unable to do a thing and he to whom We have provided from Us good provision, so he spends from it secretly and publicly. Can they be equal? Praise to Allah ! But most of them do not know.

1683 They recognize the favor of Allah ; then they deny it. And most of them are disbelievers.

16101 And when We substitute a verse in place of a verse - and Allah is most knowing of what He sends down - they say, "You, , are but an inventor ." But most of them do not know.

2124 Or, have they taken gods besides Him? Say Bring your proof; this is the reminder of those with me and the reminder of those before me. Nay! most of them do not know the truth, so they turn aside.

2370 Or do they say, "There is madness in him"? No indeed, he has come to them with the Truth, and most of them hate the Truth

2544 Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path.

268 Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.

2667 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

26103 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!

26121 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!

26139 And they denied him; therefore We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

26158 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.

26174 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!

26190 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers!

26223 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars.

2761 Or, Who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water? god besides Allah? Nay, most of them know not.

2773 And indeed, your Lord is full of grace for the people, but most of them do not show gratitude."

2813 Thus did We restore him to his mother, that her eye might be comforted, that she might not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true but most of them do not understand.

2857 And they say, "If we were to follow the guidance with you, we would be swept from our land." Have we not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.

2963 And if you asked them, "Who sends down rain from the sky and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness?" they would surely say " Allah ." Say, "Praise to Allah "; but most of them do not reason.

3042 Say Travel in the land, then see how was the end of those before; most of them were polytheists.

It is actually kind of funny. I remember when we were kids and we had little discussions with friends after religion class (those classes were so boring) there was something of a consensus that half the people in the world went to heaven, and the rest half went to hell laugh

It is worth remembering that we not only do not know who is going to be saved/rewarded/punished/protected, not for ourselves nor for others; but we also don't know how many.

Sure, the Quran, to re type what you said, does say that, THE FATE OF THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE will be Hellfire, but then the majority of people aren't Muslims.

But where is it guaranted that majority of those people who identify themselves as muslims in the world will not find their way into the Hell-Prison?
The residents of the worst part/class of Hell Prison are neither Idol worshippers, nor people of the Book, nor atheists, nor even Iblis. They are only from those who claim to be believers and muslim, and are known/identified in the world as momin, believer, muslim but Allah named them Muna'fi'qeen. Except Muslim/Believing society they are nowhere found in the whole universe.

;D what a consensus, i hope you kids weren't pointing your fingers to each other and say to 'GTH!' (heh, use it for either H)

A worthy reminder that is, and one we often need in this forum, it seems...

Well, we were little kids, I remember thinking that two girls in my class (who were mean bullies) were headed for hellfire laugh

Right, Mazhar, the hypocrites seem to get the worst, the deepest hell, as mentioned in one verse of sura Nisaa' IIRC.

May God protect us from nifaq/hypocrisy. I guess there is no way we can feel safe from it until our death.

However, that was a clipped part of the author's comment--i was pointing mainly to the hellfire prejudice. You would need to address it to the author, in the you-know-where thread.

              Peace

It's also there in surah 7

Muna'fi'qeen is not equivalent to hypocrites since they could be in any society but Muna'fi'qeen are only in muslim society. We should not use it as translation.

Really? Wouldn't this term also apply to hypocrites who claim they are Jewish or Christian (i.e. people of the Book?)

I know that it is not exact, but i thought they have similar qualities, don't they? the lies, the oath-breaking, and the disbelieving after believing--right, that's where it differs, isn't it?

Almunafiqiyn must have believed at once and then they die as disbelievers...

Also (i'm referring to Sura 63 Almunafiquwn) they have the arrogance (mustakbiruwn), are Alfasiqiyn, and they would delay charity until just before death.

I better do some counteract, my heart is shrinking reading these...

Thanks for the pointer, Mazhar. btw, do you know what Alfasiqiyn is described with, in the Book--as translation for this term doesn't seem to be consistent? I mean, what actions they woud commit etc?

Please start knowing and identifying them by starting reading from 207-20 and in particular study the examples quoted. At subsequent places whatever updates you will find about them you will recall the examples quoted.

                          Salaamun alaikum San,

Firstly, my condolences on your discussion with your 'lovely mate' Maybe you can understand now that some people are just horrible and softness with them merely turns them into worse monsters. Such people need to be exposed for the sickos they are.

Your friend cannot think beyond 'her' nose and thinks the Quran supports the people who in the world we call 'Muslims' (sunnis, shia, salafee etc). It does not. In my opinion, here's the conceptual path you need to investigate in order to understand what Quran means by 'majority of people do not believe'.

                          1. Who is a muslim?

                          2. Does being a muslim mean you go to heaven?

                          3. Referring to question 2 above, what then is a mumin.

                          4. Read on events of judgement day. What are the terms used (ashab al-maymanah, ashab al-mash'amah and al-muqarribeen in ch. 56, for example). Why are these terms used?. I think using judgement day and 'mapping backwards' helps us understand God's intentions better.

Good luck in your search. Don't bother about your 'lovely mate', i think the whole forum knows now what scum 'she' is.

                            Wa'alaykum salam abdalquran,

Well, that was relieving in the end. I had to address her simply because she was interrupting a discussion on the thread i'm participating in. I did not intend to expose her. Such action is not needed. No, not softness, but rather, gentle, if you will.

She's not a horrible, she's not a monster, and she's not a sicko. She's just human, mate. Human is not a static. This thread was to point out that single thing--don't judge people.

If needed (and if i had the time), i would just address her in the same manner again, seeking what she really concerns and isolate the subject as necessary. That is proven more useful. To God belong His judgments, however. And I'd welcome her any day if she addressed me in a positive manner.

I am more interested in finding about 'God's loved groups' and all the people who are with them. Also the opposite, for countermeasure.

That Sura 56 is of course a favourite.

Good luck too, and no, my 'lovely mate' is not a scum--just a human.

                            Peace

                            (ed bolded some important details)

Yes, good idea. A more fundamental question is to ask, is 'God's loved groups' limited to even 'group'. I personally don't think so, I think it works individually and these individuals are a loose based group.

Yes, good idea. A more fundamental question is to ask, is 'God's loved groups' limited to even 'group'. I personally don't think so, I think it works individually and these individuals are a loose based group.

In my very limited knowledge, mate, these "groups" ultimately form one "group", that is the people loved by God and who love their God. And who knows who's IN the group? God knows best, mate. Loose, yes, in our view, because we have no idea. Don't you think, though, that it's quite exact in God's view?

The idea is not to form a group of human as we know today and call it an Exclusive God Lovers Club. The idea is to follow God's lead and to do what those people are doing, as described in the Book.

And even though we have no exact idea of who's who (not even ourselves) in this world--still i don't get why we have to always be broken down to individuals. That wouldn't work as the people whom God loves, in my personal opinion. Have a look at 4829 -- notice "ruHamaA'u bainahum"? I think it works collectively instead of individually.

                                      Peace.

did you ever come across this? It's quite inspiring.

                                        http//www.amriazi.com/userfiles/thewiseway.ppt

                                        (great background music too)

                                        especially the last part,

'you see, in the final analysis, it was between you and God, it was never between you and them anyway'

                                        Great stuff, Sarah!

                                        Forgive them anyway

                                        Be kind anyway

                                        Be honest and frank anyway

                                        Be happy anyway

and if i may add --

when you invite people to the Mercy of God, they may show you the arrogance of 'i am better than you'

                                        ...Love GOD anyway ;D
