Was Exhalted Prophet really inconsiderate?
-
Peace, Badar
Thank you for bringing this subject for us to observe. I have nothing to share but just another humble understanding and opinion. )
My question is Is this sura only addressed to the Prophet?
Can you for a moment please imagine yourself being an orphan, needing support and had to depend on people who are not your parents?
Then if God reminds you, wouldn't that be appropriate to our humanly traits (that is we often forget about God's grace when we are in difficulty)?
Yes, God has given you grace. And God nurtured you when you were an orphan, and guided you when you were lost, helped you when you were in need...
Then God reminded you not to be harsh against orphans, and not to reject those who ask you a favor...
How do you see this sura now? Couldn't this possibly happen to anyone other than the Prophet?
Peace,
-
That could all be inferred. My question is, are not the traditional translations an insult to exalted prophet. These very obviously imply either prophet was already harsh to all destitute or at the verge of doing so. In addition, why would Rabb be shy to address all human beings? In addition, anybody even remotely familiar with Arabic tell me, which word really points out this being addressed to prophet.
Peace.

Peace,
OK, so i missed your point, but then so what's the point of addressing only the Prophet? As you will see, there is no such point (definitely not literally).
Let's present the sura in itself, without any translation (frankly, much of those are very distracting indeed )
(ed oh, actually i added some translations and comment myself-- -X i hope they're not that distracting...)Ad-Dhuha
(Historically The brightness of the day)Surah 93 1
Surah 93 2
Surah 93 3
Here is when "you" is first addressed--translation in order of words
"Not deserted you, The Lord of yours, and not disliked/displeased (qalaa)"
but who is "you" here, we will only get the clue in verse 6
Surah 93 4
Surah 93 5
Surah 93 6
"Were not found you, an orphan, then sheltered" , or for easier reading
"Were not you found an orphan, then sheltered"This is the first clue of who is "you" God addressed in this Sura.
Surah 93 7
"And not found you, misguided, then guided"
Surah 93 8
"And not found you, poor, then enriched"
Surah 93 9
"Then as for the orphans, then (do) not humiliate/compel"
Surah 93 10
"And as for the askers/beggars, then (do) not yell at/drive away"
Surah 93 11
"And as for with your Lord's blessing, then tell."
I hope that will clarify the context
this person referred to as "you" in the sura was an orphan, misguided, and poor.
And now that i put those three descriptions in one line, i much preferred the way they are addressed in the Sura (i.e., they are addressed very very carefully).
As far as i know, there is nothing found in the sura that the person referred to as "you" here is limited to the Prophet.
Hope it helps, please verify for yourself.

Peace,
OK, so i missed your point, but then so what's the point of addressing only the Prophet? As you will see, there is no such point (definitely not literally).
I think you missed the point again. Brother Badar can correct me if If I am wrong please. As I see it translated here, with his technique of decoding the old classical arabic script with the help of utilizing the Jazm, Teshdeed, etc etc. and all such rules, the entire point is that it is not even talking about the issue that we all are arguing about. It is simply talking about a totally different principle, unrelated to orphanage, from our Creator, and is addressed, like always to the entire humanity. In his translation, there is no mention of orphan and such related matters that are believed to be there in all other previous translations, which he has put up as examples only, just to compare.
His technique of utilising the principle discussed by him elsewhere on this site, relating to jazm etc. etc. are exrensively used, in his proposed translations at www.servantofthelight.com and hence the trnslations on that site are presenting a totally different aspect of guiding principles from our Creator only and appear very very profound, at least to me when I compre it to about 13 more translations, present simultaneously on www.openburhan.com. I have been periodically breaking down the words, based on jazm etc. as proposed by him, and verifying a part of it from Lanes lexicon, and have been amazed, that those meanings were correct (as long as you break the words as suggested by him through Lanes, Wright, Woodrow Fisher, etc).
I cry and pray to our Lord to give us the correct understanding of his message, as that may be the only way out of this pathetic state , in which the Ummah is. I almost believe now, that our understanding of the Qur'Aan is different, as compared to the Prophet and earlier Muslims, otherwise, we would not have been in this pathetic state. This is precisely the reason that I am comparing the translations presented at his site (and periodically posted on this site also), with multiple others, and find the meanings through his technique, always more profound. I hope he is decoding the old arabic words correctly, which he claims, is with the help of Lane, Wright and Fisher. May Rabb shower His blessings on him all others who are sincerely attempting to understand his message, the way it is meant to be. bravo

Thanks kn, for following the point, as well for your home work about verification. No belief is complete with out verification; otherwise it is called blind following.
Peace San, your conclusion based on your understanding is that in this Sura addressee is "this person referred to as "you" in the sura was an orphan, misguided, and poor".
Hence conclusion is, this "you" has to be exalted prophet himself. Let?s analyze this statement, even using the same line of thought that traditionalist use; but with some reason and logic.
One says it so, because prophet is descibed in history as an Orphan. How do we know this because, history/hadith literature tells us. However, can we say from any verse here that clearly indicates that person to be prophet him selves? If so, please someone who is so eagerly attached to these traditional translation, teach me. I am eager to learn.
One further concludes that this person, that is, prophet was misguided. My question is to bring any evidence that prophet was a misguided person. What I have read in all accounts of history that he was pious as well person of principles from very early life. My question is, who is wrong here history or Alkitab? Both seem to be at odds with each other here.
One further says, he was poor? Most likely based on history again. My question is, how come? He was born in family that was elites of Quraish tribe. The same Quraish happened to be care takers for the biggest temple of Arabia. His Grandpa and Uncle, both his care takers were custodians of biggest temple of whole Arabia of time. Do we find custodians of any big or the biggest temples in world today or in history to be poor or destitute?
That?s all my friend, with peace and love.

After having taken two oaths, span of time, day and night , the fact being narrated is about the past period of the person whom Allah is addressing.
Neither your Sustainer Lord had ever left you nor He went away.
Dear Mazhar, for above to be understood, as you intend. Please, elaborate further.
Peace,
Badar

Dear Brother Mazhar, thanks for the explanation. If you can understand the message this way, good for you. Also for those, who can from you. To me principles cited above seem good enough to apply in real life to see some results.

My question is, who is wrong here history or Alkitab?
Just want to share a clarification for my mistake. Although, unintentional but worthy of correction. Above in red, I really meant to say "My question is who is wrong here history or traditional translations of AlKitab as both seem to be at odds here. Of course, I cannot even imagine the real AlKitab to be wrong.

Well, that is/was your conclusion, bro Badar. As i said before, i do not accept the argument that the sura is addressed to the Prophet alone.
And in the case that the Prophet was one of those addressed--wasn't the Prophet a human? What is wrong with him being misguided in the past, then guided by his Creator?
As for your clarified question in red, sorry i have little or no knowledge ) of both the "history" and "traditional translations of Alkitab" you referred to. I think the actions implied in the verses 9-11 are the ones need observing--'to apply in real life' like you said. I'm not trying to teach or anything here, but, maybe, while you are seeking for your answer you can try to do something related to the verses 9-11. God knows best--you might find the answer sooner. Just a suggestion, dear brother Badar, for us and for myself too.
Peace,

Well, that is/was your conclusion, bro Badar. As i said before, i do not accept the argument that the sura is addressed to the Prophet alone.
As I understand, the translation done by Brother Badar, does not indicate, that it is addressed to the Prophet. If his decoding of the old classical arabic is correct, based on the application of use of Jazm, etc etc, as utilised by them in www.servantofthelight.com, then it is obvious that it is a totally different topic being discussed here.
It is the same principle used by them at the above site, in their other translations so far done, and as is exemplified by them in Surah Lahab also, where it shows that it has nothing to do with the hate speech of God against an uncle of the Prophet and his wife, as is widely believed, but in reality, is shown to offer a great guiding principle for all humanity. If their application of the principles of Jazm, Teshdeed, etc etc., is correct, then the following translation of Surah Lahab would be correct, rather than the widely believed concept of this being addressed to an uncle of the ProphetSurah 111 1
One who has severed utterly from all bonds of union with the guiding rope (Quran). They suffered the ruin of breaking into small pieces and perished for ever. Such a human?s refusal will lead them to be in a state, like an emotive burning with thirst, being a state of ruin and as dead.
Surah 111 2
Such a person will not profit at all. One who is proud and heeds themselves high above others for whatever wealth they have collected and gained.
Surah 111 3
Such a person has deluded and deceived themselves, and caused themselves to fall into destruction. So kindle a fire to ransom yourself from the evil of such persons. Persons, who?s unwillingness to change will lead them to be in a state, like an emotive burning with thirst, being a state of ruin and as dead.
Surah 111 4
Have no self pity, after passing beyond the right and straight course open to you. That is the course in my decree towards you. The one that incites urges and instigates.
Surah 111 5
On account of this, to save your neck without delay tie yourself with the guiding rope from me (Quran), then to continue your guided journey laboriously and energetically.
Back To Surah List
I hope and pray for the right guidance and understaning for all of us, and commend all those who are trying to understand the things as might have been understood by the Prophet and his companions. Hope they are guided correctly, so all can benefit. It might be of benefit for us to compare this translation with multiple other translations available at www.openburhan.com. But more beneficial for all of us would be to understand their method of translation and cross check it to make sure that they are right and we do not follow them blindly, like most of us have been following blindly all other translation method from the past, where instead of linguistics, history and Ahadith have been used more to explain the verses, as if God is dependent on these stories to make himself clear.

As I understand, the translation done by Brother Badar, does not indicate, that it is addressed to the Prophet.
Peace, kn, i was replying to his reply to me

That to me, seems like he was concluding after my conclusion--which is why i would clarify as above.
I have no argument against the Quran as the guide for all humanity. Whatever the context of the verses is, there is always something that can be taken as a guidance, hence why i rather focus on the actions that can be taken. Especially since the actions in 939-11 is directly applicable to all of us.
Peace

I don't know if I can help much to contribute to the topic of this thread, but for me personally, when I first read Surah Ad-Dhuha, I wasn't even thinking of Prophet Muhammad, just mankind in general.
, I feel so strongly about that Surah... I'm not an orphan by the way; but at one point in my life, I felt lost and everything in the world did not seem enough for me (I kept thinking I didn't have enough money, even though I did, and that I was poor). It was horrible... and then I got my way out of traditional Islam/Sunnism and became who I am now, you can say I received a guidance. And I feel wonderful, and enriched. This is the one surah that I keep reciting every day and it is also the one who compels me to give some of my money for the needy (different to the past where I spent none even though I earned more... and spent more for useless things lol).

Thank you, that tells a lot for on all three verses 937, 17 and 7179
Let me withdraw some translations in my previous post
Surah 93 7
"And not found you, misguided, then guided"
Surah 93 8
"And not found you, poor, then enriched"
this person referred to as "you" in the sura was an orphan, misguided, and poor.
"Lost" and "in need" (taken from http//quran.uk.net/WordByWord.aspx?chapter=93&verse=7) may be more accurate than "misguided" and "poor" (taken from "English-Literal" translation)
Please forgive me for any confusion caused by inaccurate translations above.
