well where is this slaughtering from originally;-
Since in ancient times the hindu year used to begin with the entry of the sun in Aries (goat)
the occasion was celebrated with mutton feasting. That is the origin of the Bakari Eed festival. And Afridi has shown where the slaughtering is from......

Peace Afridi & all
I skimmed the link.. a bit weird how it says its origins are from Druze! I found that odd because both sunni and shia (and their branches) celebrate this.
Afridi did you bother to look at the link which verses it relates to?
Well 2196 was where it started and it has no Quranic link to adha celebrations. Funny how they claim the origins are Quranic but shy away to give the direct verses on the actual site. It has links to hajj.
Al-Baqara (The Cow)
(2196)? 2196 (Asad) AND PERFORM the pilgrimage and the pious visit in honour of God; and if you are held back, give instead whatever offering you can easily afford. And do not shave your heads until the offering has been sacrificed; but he from among you who is ill or suffers from an ailment of the head shall redeem himself by fasting, or alms, or act of worship. And if you are hale and secure, ]then he who takes advantage of a pious visit before the pilgrimage shall give whatever offering he can easily afford; whereas he who cannot afford it shall fast for three days during the pilgrimage and for seven days after your return that is, ten full . All this relates to him who does not live near the Inviolable House of Worship. And remain conscious of God, and know that God is severe in retribution.
Ok apparently the way it?s translated is don?t shave your heads until you?ve offer the sacrifice. It's a weak "Quranic link" for adha celebrations because it's in relation to hajj all those celebrating are not pilgrims.
? ? I?m not familiar with these words so I?ll look them up
Well alhdy relates to huda
= ha-Dal-Ya = to guide/direct to the way, take/follow right way/course, rightly guided/directed, a way/course/method/mode/manner of conduct. Gift.
I?m not sure on mahlahu
Any thoughts?
People like to celebrate, it gives them something to look forward to. If people want to sacrifice an animal and distribute it I don?t think that is bad. It?s a cultural practice but is it Quranic? Not that I can see, type ?sacrifice? or ?slaughter? in Quran search and look at what you find.

It's illegal to do stuff like that here in public / i've never seen it thank God. i think it'll affect adults too i bet i'd prob be knocked out cold haha not good.
isn't the theory you cut it ear to ear and say bismallah as it's the "least" painful or "quickest death"? people are following what their forefathers did. Also anesthetize them? dude if people could get access to do that to animals i'd be worried what other things they could get up to. i reckon just leave it to the experts, let the butchers do their job less hassle, less mess, no gory sights to witness.
Peace.

peace all,
As a side note to 2196 and head shaving/cutting, some background reading

Salaam,
I find myself such a softie and can not bear to see animal being slaughtered. That being said, back in my Sunnism days, I sacrificed a goat as part of the Eid festival. I was told that I MUST watch the slaughtering of my sacrificial goat with my own eyes in order to have my rewards counted. You had no idea how terrible it made me feel T.T

Oh yes i had some idea -- i was a photographer for an Eid Adha event some years ago (pics are required as proof) now you imagine that... at least i had to visually focus on 20-30 slaughterings or so... yuck
And yesterday a cousin of mine told me that he had to two goats himself for a tradition called aqiqah (after birth of infants, an equivalent of 2 or 4 (female/male) goats' meats are offered to neighbors in an event meant as a way to thank God). They said it is better for the father to do the himself -- it's not enough to just see it yourself! o yuck yuck
...
Never mind the traditions -- but all this made me curious on what is/are the best possible methods to transform living animals into edible meat... (an everyday practice in slaughtering houses btw...) -- have this been discussed before in FM?

Correct me if I'm wrong... but I recall reading Biblical verses that animal needs to be sacrificed upon the birth of infants. One for male or two for female. Is there any Qur'anic verses to back up this? That we need to do aqiqah?

I believe as long as the animals don't die of themselves, they should be fine to eat.

We must keep in mind that the call to the hajj is for mankind, not just Muslims or Mu'mins, etc. Therefore what we are instructed to do at the hajj needs to make sense to people who have not entered Islam. With this in mind, here is my current understanding of 2196. My study is incomplete & all feedback will be most welcome.
And fully develop the aim of curing wrong thinking through evidence, living the conclusions reached through such contemplation, resulting in clear proof due to results, for Allah. So if you are restricted then what is easy/manageable from the correct guidance and do not remove what afflicts your head/mind until you reach the full understanding of the correct guidance in the place/state where/when the right becomes due & it becomes permissible. And if any of you become weak or fall short in your duty or suffers a slight evil from his head/mind for liberation from abstinence or the right that is due or gentle application. And when your mind is tranquil and free from fear, then he who became advanced and benefited with putting into practice the conclusions reached through contemplation of issues through he night resulting in clear proofs due to results to the aim of curing wrong thinking through evidence should do what is easy/manageable from the correct guidance For who cannot perceive through their senses, should abstain three days in the hajj and seven upon your return completing ten. This is for those whose people are not coming down to the prohibited place/state of submission. And be concious of Allah and know that Allah is strong in following up.
Explanation
We instructed here to fully develop the process of hajj by putting into practice the conclusions reached through the contemplation & discussion of issues at hajj through the umrah, which I understand to be the practical implementation phase between annual hajj conventions. This implementation will bear results & this will prove the benefits of the message that Allah has given in the Quran. This in turn should result in those who have not submitted, submitting if they are rational people who demand evidence for the claims that are made in the quran
If any of the delegates are restricted in the sense that they can't quite wrap their minds around the concepts presented, they should try to understand the more basic concepts first and they should not accept any concepts merely for the sake of acceptance rather take their time to fully understand the concepts, at which point certain responsibilities become incumbent on those who accept.
Further, if anyone cannot move forward with these concepts or still have in their minds the wrong thinking, they should liberate themselves from imposing on themselves any required abstinence that the deen of Islam puts forward or the responsibility of providing to others the rights that are due to them in such a system or even the gentle application of the tenets of the deen.
Once you have cleared your mind from conflicts & fear through a thorough understanding of the concepts in the Islamic system, then those who have benefited through the implementation process between the previous hajj & this one should again after this hajj do what is easy & manageable as they have seen the results the last time that they did this.
For those who cannot rationalise the presented concepts of the system, they should abstain or take a step back for three days during the hajj (to clear their minds & possibly approach it with a fresh mind or perspective). If after this they still return to their previous state of mind they should step back again for seven days before applying themselves to the task again.
This process of stepping back to analyze things is for those who have not submitted to accepting the system that imposes certain restrictions & prohibitions on people in order for the community to develop & progress. We are reminded that even when stepping back, we should be conscious of the effects of what we do because the is a result (positive or negative) to every cause of action that we take.
