Look what we found digging the foundations for our extension

    http//www.fest-for-alle.dk/forum/uploads/post-223-125960641799.jpg

Its a cast fossil of a sea urchin which lived when dinosaurs were around. The clear rows of pits are where the holes were in the shell where the legs came out. They're so distinctive because of the remaining white chalk. It was found in clay and probably popped out of the chalk layer thanks to the upheavals of the ice age. It is also possible that I'm not the first to have found it. In ancient times such stones were called thunderstones and thought to have fallen from the sky. They were collected and used to protect houses from lightening and otherwise treasured amulets to warn off evil spirits.

I hope it works for us!

as long as those 'evil spirits' believe in the stone, that is... laugh

The "us" was referring to those living in our house - my family. No, I don't believe in the supernatural so I don't see any needs there. However its kind've a nice thought to have in all our building mess that we've found this stone which was treasured in ancient times as an amulet or lucky charm, and we can hope it will have symbolic value.

Nope the fivefold radial symmetry is a real give away, it has to be a fossilised echinoderm.
