My problem
-
what do you mean lusts? are you doing anything wrong by following "God alone (Quran alone)"?
I used to feel a lot of the Quranic ideologies are the same thing but with different terminology.. though it's more than we think. Reading/studying opens gates you wouldn't have thought of.
with many prohibitive guides in sunni's, it makes one think it's impossible to be good. are they really following the "sunnah" as they claim they should..
no one is perfect there is no perfect example out there other than the parables stated in the Quran for us to learn from. movements/groups whatever, they're not as important as who you are and what you do..
people seem to be hung up about following others in a group, sure a sense of security is nice but does it really matter?
my suggestion understand what you are doing, you'll know if it's haram or not. When in doubt, don't go into it until you're sure. Research about things, ask questions or argue with your mind till you find the conclusion.. whatever works

I have had the same thought come through my mind before as well.
But you see, the same can be said about the hadtiths.
That Following the hadtihs are so hard that it makes life alot more complicated.
Eat with your Right hand, Walk in with your right foot, Sleep on your Right side, Your Bed must be facing the Kabba, You must roll up or pant legs or your in danger of the hellfire, Women Must do this Women must do that, etc...etc..etc...
It makes life so much harder.
Then I was honest with myself and realized...
I wasn't Following Islam to the Fullest because I said ... "Hadiths make it too hard"
Then I wasn't practicing Islam to the Fullest because I said "Following the QUran alone is much to easy"Then I realized My TRUE Problem.
MY Problem was ME. and Still is ME. It doesnt matter if I am Sunni or Quran Alone...The Problem is me not staying true and being Steadfast.
I Once Thought, "Oh it is SO hard to Be a Muslim in America. Maybe if I Move to a Muslim Country, it will be easier to Pray because they have an Adhan.
Be then I realized...It didnt matter if I was there or here. and It didnt matter if there was an Adhan or not.
because in BOTH places...I would have Ended up Missing Salah because of my Laziness. It is something I need to work on Within MYSELF. Not where I live.
I would think about that for a minute. !

20.130. Therefore be patient with what they say, and celebrate (constantly) the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun, and before its setting; yea, celebrate them for part of the hours of the night, and at the sides of the day that thou mayest have (spiritual) joy.
-
Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them, the splendour of the life of this world, through which We test them but the provision of thy Lord is better and more enduring.
-
Enjoin prayer on thy people, and be patient (istabir) therein. We ask thee not to provide sustenance We provide it for thee. But the (fruit of) the Hereafter is for righteousness.
Its supposed to be hard and requires constant patience. Nothing valuable is easy. Remember many evil people in the muslim world pray regularly like a clock work. But their heart is not in it.
I don't think how and when to pray is important as long as you pray hard and constantly. If you slip a day or two then continue. Remember God accepts your praying even when you don't feel like it or you are upset.
13.15. Whatever beings there are in the heavens and the earth do prostrate themselves to Allah (Acknowledging subjection),- with good-will or in spite of themselves so do their shadows in the morning and evenings

We are all different and some prople feel better guided with less ritual or rules and other people need more. Well pick those rules you feel may help you along, even if they are sunni or shias and do not entail any sacralising of anything other than God. If you can follow the highway code, you can follow any code you choose. Choose a set that keeps you in shape.

It maybe irrelevant to your problem, Seeker of truth, but let me share something anyway
someone who's idle from the good stuff in his life may try to fill his life's emptiness with the complexity of man-made rules, while someone else who's busy doing the good stuff may find freedom in the elegance of the straight guidance.
When i found myself trapped in the former (mostly artificial guilt), the only logical consequence for me then is to bring myself into the latter (i.e. changing the "actions" instead of the "rules".

Assalamu Alaykum
Hi I have a big issue on my hands. For a couple of weeks now I am leaning strongly towards God Alone(Quran alone, I always considered myself God Alone). The problem is I feel that I am following my lusts because it is an easier path and has less prohibitions. If it had more prohibitions I would probably have followed it more readily but I am so afraid of following my lusts and doing something Haram. Suggestions? What should I do?
Salam, May Allah guide us all.
peace
Cuttting down on burdening and restricting yourself is not lust. It depends on what it is that your cutting down on with respect to burdens and restrictions IMO.
Don't lose your commitment in pursuing the truth and righteousness. If you don't lose your commitment in those then i don't see how can feel guilty unless you think that i need to do more good deeds or accomplish more things. In that case then decide on a good deed or something to accomplish and commit yourself to it and carry it out.
