      Peace,

      Have you seen this Ayah?

      217
Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess, the Message/ alththikra.

      peace

      Quran 217-8
And We did not send before you except men/humans, We inspire to them, so question the reminder's people if you (kuntum/plural) were not knowing. And We did not create them a body, they do not eat the food, and they were not immortal.

1643-44 And We did not send from before you except men/humans, We inspire to them, so question the reminder's people, if you (again kuntum/plural) were not knowing. With the evidences and The Books, and We descended to you (ilayka singular) the reminder to show to the people what was descended to them, and perhaps they think.

Above verses do not say to ask them for information, instead says to ask them a rhetorical question so they can ponder on the answer themselves were not all prior messengers human? E.g.

Luke 24 he said to them, 'Have ye anything here to eat?' 42 and they gave to him part of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb, 43 and having taken, he did eat before them.

        peace Nun,

.....so question the reminder's people if you (kuntum/plural).........

        ..........the people (of) the reminder.............

of course the actual people who recieved the reminder have long since died, so these people of the reminder must surely posses the reminder to be called "people of the reminder" ...............yes/no ?

        peace

Yes and no; they are the same people Qur?an is being revealed to which 151-6 clearly explains the reminder refers to Qur?an?

381 S and the Qur?an (holder) of the reminder

431-5 again clearly explains the reminder refers to Qur?an and "the people" are those at revelation and today?

I think they are the people who were previously sent the reminder and not those who have or are recieving this quran, not at all.

YUSUFALI Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning yet they heed not and they turn away.
            021.002
YUSUFALI Never comes (aught) to them of a renewed Message from their Lord, but they listen to it as in jest,-
            021.003
YUSUFALI Their hearts toying as with trifles. The wrong-doers conceal their private counsels, (saying), "Is this (one) more than a man like yourselves? Will ye go to witchcraft with your eyes open?"
            021.004
YUSUFALI Say "My Lord knoweth (every) word (spoken) in the heavens and on earth He is the One that heareth and knoweth (all things)."
            021.005
YUSUFALI "Nay," they say, "(these are) medleys of dream! - Nay, He forged it! - Nay, He is (but) a poet! Let him then bring us a Sign like the ones that were sent to (Prophets) of old!"
            021.006
YUSUFALI (As to those) before them, not one of the populations which We destroyed believed will these believe?
            021.007
YUSUFALI Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.
            021.008
YUSUFALI Nor did We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they exempt from death.
            021.009
YUSUFALI In the end We fulfilled to them Our Promise, and We saved them and those whom We pleased, but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds.
            021.010
YUSUFALI We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you will ye not then understand?

It all seem streight forward enough.

The error is in the presumption/interpretation of the part in red; again it does not say to ask those who possess the reminder for information. They don't have or possess anything other than they are present and receiving the reminder at the time as some are currently.

It says to put forth to them (plural, the people currently hearing the message) a rhetorical question without expectation of a reply; mainly were not all the messengers of old human, did they not eat food? Read in that context..

              Quran 217-8
And We did not send before you except men/humans, We inspire to them, so question the reminder's people if you (kuntum/plural) were not knowing. And We did not create them a body, they do not eat the food, and they were not immortal.

With the evidences and The Books, and We descended to you (ilayka singular) the reminder to clarify/show/explain to the people what was descended to them, and perhaps they think.

The only person in possession of the reminder (i.e. Qur'an, the scripture, the message) is the messenger.

              Hope that is clear.

              Peace

Thanks for your time , but,

Starting from the very first Ayah those who are not believing in the quran are the ones who are ?they?, in the second ?them?, in the third ?they?, in the fifth ?they say?,
In the sixth there is an example of people in the past , in the seventh the prophet is being told to ask a rhetorical question of those who aren?t believing in the prophet and yet are people of the reminder from past. As you can see the rhetorical question is about the past prophets and the only people who would know the answer is the people who aren?t believing him but do have the details of the past prophets. No?

No. They (those being addressed at that time) have no exact details of the past; if they did then no need for Qur'an.

Well you may disagree; but if i may clarify my position,

The quran was being explained to people , some who didn't have any knowledge of past reminders and there where undoubtedly some who did-like jews and christians who lived in these Arab communities.

                    021.007
YUSUFALI Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration If ye realise this not, ASK OF THOSE WHO POSSESS THE MESSAGE .

The Ayah is saying ask those who do posses the reminder from those recieving the quran.

Obviously they will have to side with the prophet on this issue against those who are in error regarding the quistion of the past prophets.
