'Quran Alone' is misleading
-
When I stopped calling myself a Sunni/Shi'i I became uncomfortable wearing any label. It's constricting and limiting and personally, I despise the Sectarian mindset. I really admire the people in this forum for the fact that they don't rally around tending to each other's egos, rather if they have a disagreement, they will air it. I really hope this movement, whatever label people will put on it, never falls into the Sectarian trap or the "Us vs. Them" business and rather aim to be on the side truth above all.

QURAN ALONE was a slogan meant to dispel HADITH as second book of law but its becoming a sect! So I suggest TRUTH ALONE.
Its sounds better to me than God alone since God alone gives the impression we are rejecting Muhammad. But anyways most people refer to the followers as Quranist. Its OK name to be called Quranist. So we have Sunni and we have Shi'ie and we have Qurani. At least thats how it sounds in Arabic.
As far as it being anti hadith I see this as a partial attitude and not a universal attitude among Quranist. Many Quranist do not care about countering hadiths. Usually those who came from a strong Sunni background will initially do that. But later they will simply try to understand one issue after another from a Quranic point of view. It takes time to rid yourself of Sunni influence. Many people did not know about Sunnism too much anyways and people like that won't waste their time with hadiths and Sunni jurisprudence. I don't bother with hadiths anymore and I am currently reading the Old Testament for further insight. I am stil in the begining though.
What we really don't have is a name for the faith. Quranist and Qurani or Ahl AlQuran or Quranites or Quraniyoon refers to the people in the movement but not the faith itself. Many use Islam but this can easily be confused with the Sects.

This just reminds me of the attitudes of the Sunnis and the Shi'a. When you ask them why they won't refer to themself as Muslim they all confront you with the same rhetoric "I don't want to be confused with being a Shi'i..." & vice versa. Applying the term Qurani/Quranist/Quranite to yourself all it does is allow someone else to group you beliefs into one of a few things
- (S)He rejects all Ahadith (which is not true for all 'Quranists'
- (S)He thinks that Rashad Khalifa was a Prophet
- (S)He believes that the Quran has two fabricated verses
- (S)He doesn't pray
....and so on and so forth.
The people who are willing to explore your beliefs will ask you questions about it without you needing to put a label on it and those who want you to put a label, well... they probably only want you to have a label because it puts them at unease when they can't assume the specifics of your faith so as to slam a further label on you - "KAFIR".
Perhaps I'm just a bit scarred from my many encounters with Sushis (Sunni/Shi'i) where they try to force a label out of me in the end to give me the Kafir label.

It is impossible not to conform. the biggest non-conformist will find himself conforming in a group with other non-conformists...conforming... ;D
It will always appear to be a "Sect" to some. Id just try to say away form that type of thinking.
There will always be disagreements (even the quran says so), when it says dont slit your religion up into sects...
I think its talking more about ...Dont be breaking ties with others.I mean, Though I may be Quranist(Quranalone) or Quranic-Monotheis etc... I can still pray next to a Shia or Sunni and Fight for Goodness next to them.
Yes we have disagreements, but those disagreements shouldnt end our brother-like relationship. and I guess thatcan be said for possibily ALL humanity. -

This is what I see as the most important thing. Seeking 'truth' still requires that we identify what it is and that becomes the same loop as any other ideology. My thesis supervisor is constantly pulling me up on this area when I make comments such as "I don't believe in one and only truths, I'm a pluralist' - he reminds me that being a pluralist is a 'one and only truth too'. It means I am rejecting other 'truths' in favour of my own truth of pluralism. Even if we believe there is no truth to be found, that is in itself a truth we espouse. So there is no getting away from being labelled either by ourselves or others.
Applying the term Qurani/Quranist/Quranite to yourself all it does is allow someone else to group you beliefs into one of a few things

As HNF has said, if we don't label ourselves, others surely will, and their labels will not likely be as complimentary as our own.

HUMANS say that the Quran alone will mislead... while ALLAH says that whoever follows the QURAN will never go astray
As for Muhammad last sermon according to the sunnis about Muhammad giving us the Quran AND his sunnah.. why is it that in surah 2530, Muhammad will say about the miguided people on the day of judgement 'my people have deserted this QURAN'... why is it that he will not say that his people have deserted this Quran and his sunnah'?

I know lets call ourselves Muslimeena or Submitters or Muslims. Hmmmmmmmmmm sounds familiar!
2278 And strive in the cause of God its truly deserved striving. He is
the One who has chosen you, and He has made no hardship for
you in the system, the creed of your father Abraham; He is the
One who named you ?those who have submitted? from before
and in this. So let the messenger be witness over you and you be
witness over the people. So hold the bond and contribute towards
purification and hold tight to God, He is your patron. What an
excellent Patron, and what an excellent Supporter. So just call yourselves Muslims, simple easy no sect etc. By saying you are this Muslim or that Muslim, you first categorise yourselves once then into sub-categories e.g. Quran alone Muslim or Sunni Muslim etc... Secondly, why do we need a sub-category? Thats my feelings on this, I don't know what yours will be hmm.

and they divided into sects only after the
knowledge (the Qur'an) had come to them, due to jealousy and
resentment among themselves. -

You know, all the Secties refuse to call themselves Muslims because they don't want to be confused with other Sects it's high time someone uses the God given label

If it is in the Book that we call ourselves Muslims, then who has the power to make up their own label? Are we not making up a new religion by doing so?

EdipThank you brother Edip,
Omeiza is cluelless about somany things that involves in labeling, nobody labels himself, labelling has always been a reaction of the group to label those who did not conform to their rules. This is always seen as the power of the group to designate breaches of their rules as deviant and to treat the person differently. The more differential the treatment, the more the individual's self-image is affected. Our question has been a call to God alone, and abolition of part worshipping with the god, a call to God alone is seen by the dominant group as a call to abandon everything that gives authority to everything elses besides the god which includes hadith. Since hadith is seen by the dominant majority as secondary sources of law in Islam, they rationalize that a call to God alone is a call to quran alone, hence the labeling. Whereas in actual fact a call to God alone could be achieved not necessarily through quran alone but through varities of means. The term qur?an alone is short, defective and incomplete in capturing the entire essence of the invitation to God alone. The central focus is The god alone and nothing but the god alone which ever way you achieve that is immaterial, whether through qur'an or self or universe.
Labeling has a self fulfilling prophecy, i.e. . an individual who is labeled has little choice but to conform to the essential meaning of that judgment. Once you are labelled with a particul name sublimanaly you come to accept that label.
Nobody ever label himself, let Omeiza continue to call himself truth alone and lets see if it sticks, it will never stick. And very sincerely, that name truth alone is clothe in hypocrisy because our effort here is to get closer to the truth, that is why we will continue to strive, discern and discriminate to secure ourselves properly on the right path. We are continually in search of truth and we keep refining our understanding as we gain more light of the truth. How does calling yourself truth alone elimate sectarianism it rather increase it.
Where did Omeiza get the gist from that members of the forums calls themselves quran alone? Free-minds invites to god alone and I quote here;
This website has been created for all people who have a desire to allow God into their lives and follow His path alone...
This website invites all people of various beliefs (Sunni, Shia, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Bahai, Agnostic, Humanist, and even Atheists) to come and examine for themselves the system of Submission/Islam which is based on God Alone.Regards,
Kaamil.

The Quran describes those who uses their mind, critically evaluate assertions to reach to the truth with various words
Mumin (acknowledger)
Muslim (submitter, the peacemaker)
Muslih (reformed, the reformer)
Muttaqy (god-conscious)
Taib (the one who returns)
Ibadullah (God's servant)
Hizbullah (God's party)
Hanif (monotheist)
Saih (activist)
Ulul Absar (those with vision)
Utul ilma (those who are given knowledge)
Mujahid (the one who struggles)
Qaim bil Qist (observe justice)
Sadiq (truthful, supporter)
Nasara (supporter)
Muhsin (good doer)
..............It seems that the word Muslim (surrenderer to the will of God, peacemaker) is the most commonly used positive adjective.

Peace Edip! I want the focus to be the TRUTH instead of the qur'an which is a guide among guides.
No problem. May God guide us to the truth and help us to purify ourselves. I am glad that you were not offended from my sarcastic remark bravo
