Dear kn, since I made comments about Sura 111 in other thread. I wanted to follow up.

Despite my instigating out of utmost desire to engage someone/ somebody. To be a critique of my understand based on linguistic in a positive manner. It still remains my desire only. Hence, I am trying to be my own critique by continuing to improve my understanding of the language. Below are two versions (old version in black) of own understanding labeled as such. This should give some solace to critiques of inclusion of traditional translation for comparison previously. It is okay to be critical and skeptical for purpose of learning and not just to be critical for sake of being critical. This is how we progress in the journey of knowledge. The real purpose of our creation.

    Al-Lahab
    (Historically The Flame.)
(Also known as Al-Masad - The Palm Fiber.)

(Abu-Lahab was the uncle of the Rasul Muhammad, and a man who refused the rope of guidance.)

    Surah 111 1

They who separated from this instrument of advise (Qur'an), which is made manifest and evident; will suffer from diminution and be at a loss. Resulting in them living as if dead and perished, suffering an emotive thirst.

One who has severed utterly from all bond of union with the guiding rope (Quran). He suffered the ruin of breaking into small pieces and perished for ever. Such a man?s refusal will lead him to be in a state, like an emotive burning with thirst, being a state of ruin and as dead.

    Surah 111 2

As long as one is away from manifest advise (Qur'an), which is intended to fulfil ones needs. They shall not benefit from whatever they collect as wealth and property.

Such a person will not profit at all. One who is proud and heeds themselves high above others for whatever wealth they have collected and gained.

    Surah 111 3

The ones who shall try to outwit, deceive and circumvent, the distinct essence that exists through eternity as an intense illumination, will cause themselves to suffer from emotive thirst.

Such a person has deluded and deceived themselves, and caused themselves to fall into destruction. So kindle a fire to ransom yourself from the evil of such persons. Persons, who?s unwillingness to change will lead them to be in a state, like an emotive burning with thirst, being a state of ruin and as dead.

    Surah 111 4

As a result the comparison for them is as a land in which no herbage grows, even if it is rained upon. Or just like a person who carries the utmost burden of cut off, dried section of their grapevine, their burden is of no use except as dried fuel for the fire.

Have no self pity, after passing beyond the right and straight course open to you. That is the course in my decree towards you. The one that incites urges and instigates.

    Surah 111 5

In this state of deception and separation they continue to suffer from a vehement thirst, affected by drowsiness and slumber to the point of death and destruction. Instead of making a covenant to obtain a promise of security and safety, and holding on to it laboriously, and with energy.

On account of this, to save your neck without delay tie yourself with the guiding rope from me (Quran), then to continue your guided journey laboriously and energetically.

Salaam, I was not satisfied with Sura 111 so far. Hence, reworked on it. This Sura is a prototype, to show how important use of language in understanding Quran. Otherwise, there is no telling of meaning with out history/hadith, which is current is the case for most of the translation.

      Surah 111 1 ** *

Become lost and suffer diminution; hide it due refusal and voluntary
abstinence as well lack of earnest sincerity to it. Then become lost and
      suffer diminution.

it is a verb root is , the two are combined due rule of
indicated by shadda above. in the end traditionalist think is for
third person female. I think it is a particle but so far unable to find
meanings of this particle despite my best efforts. The root meanings, ?he
became lost or suffers diminution or perdition or death.

traditionalists call it to mean hands. However word that is used for
hands its root is only and there is no Hemza as third letter of root. Hence,
to me it is an imperfect of root it belongs to week verb class
according to rule when a is added at the beginning as sign of
the first letter of root a ?waw? is dropped. Its root meanings ?he
      hid it?.

is not father, its root is and it is a noun from this root. The
root meanings ?he refused; or refrained, abstained voluntarily or of his
      own free will?.**

is noun from root meaning is opposite of words ?sincere and
      earnest?

is conjunct particle explained before here word ?then? is used

      ** explained above

      Surah 111 2 ** ** ** *

That it shall bring more competence, self sufficiency and pride for
him than what he collects as wealth.

a relative noun meaning ?that, which, whichever?

** comparative noun root meaning competence
      sufficiency?.

it is combination of particle meaning ?for? and a pronoun
      meaning ?him?

again combination of from root . Second letter waw change
due to rule described before as alif. Meaning usually wealth, but due
context used ?pride?, in end it has attached personal pronoun as above.

      • a particle meaning ?and what?*

a verb root same meanings ?he collected wealth?**

      Surah 111 3 ** ** ** *

One shall follow it closely; render it apparent and evident, as a master
and its owner without lacking earnest sincerity.

** it is imperfect from root it has prefixed at the
beginning letter , it is a marker for future time. The root meaning is
?to follow closely neck to neck, in horse race runner up horse is called
      .?

** in a noun from root again ?waw? changed due rule described
before. It?s meaning usually ?light? but also ?he rendered apparent and
evident?, this is picked due to context.

** from root meaning ?possessor, owner or master?

      ** noun described above.**

      Surah 111 4 ** *

Or else it becomes like an affliction and distressful thing for him, just
like the collected firewood is to its carrier.

again waw connector particle followed by a word usually
considered to be as a word to mean "woman". However, it is from root
with personal pronoun attached at the end. Meaning, ?an affliction and
      distressful thing?.

it is verbal noun a measure of from root root
      meanings

?he carried it? due measure brings meanings of intensity and repetition,
      hence ?carrier?.

definite article ?al? followed by a noun that has the same three
letter root meaning ?the collected firewood?.**

      Surah 111 5 ** ***

Excel in it, to obtain promise of safety and security in pursuit of
      journey with energy.

** a particle with several meanings here ?in?

** it is noun from root , meaning he excelled.

** noun from root same three letter meaning usually ?he twisted like
a rope? but figurative meanings have been used here due context ?to obtain
      promise of safety and security?.

** a particle with several meanings, here ?in?

** a noun from a root which has same three letters, meaning ?he
pursued a journey laboriously and with energy?.
