What I learnt about Salat from Quran,
Salat is a ritual of reciting Quran, Lead by Mohammed/Imam, followed by many.
It asks the many to do Zakat/Offerings, this ritual is not new to Mohammed, its the same followed by many previous generations including Hindus,Jews etc..Salat is timed event where Mohammed/Imam leads a group of people, and the Mohammed/Imam repeats the ritual again when new set of people come again with their offerings/Zakat.
The timing is not fixed but the Imam can repeat the ritual as of when people comes in.This is similar to how a Hindu priest do the ritual of Poojas in their temple Sanctuary with the the offerings brought by people, the only difference is the Idols.The Hindus prayers are conducted in the early morning, afternoon and evening.
I think Salat is community benefiting ritual where people do Zakat/Charity.

This means that what we already know that the prayers were generally five times and the law is mandatory , as well as extra prayers given by God to do any legal obligation ( fardhu ) , so the entirety of the prayer we become six times , rather than the usual five Muslims live .
Terms and Prayer Time

And where have you ( out ), then palingkanlah face toward the Sacred Mosque . And wherever ye ( all) are, then palingkanlah your face toward him , so that no human hujjah over you, except those among them who do wrong . Thou shalt not fear them and fear Me ( alone ) . And to me , perfected My favor upon you , and that ye may be guided. ( 2150 )
Clothing

Does Same With Prayer Prayer ?

Verily Allah loves those who fear Allah . ( 94 )
When was discharged the sacred month , then slay the idolaters wherever ye that find them, and catch them . Kepunglah them and intailah in place surveillance . If they repent and establish worship (ash- shalaata) and regular charity , then give them the freedom to walk . Surely Allah is Forgiving , Merciful . ( 95 )
Then forwarded to the following paragraph .
They do not respect believers , kinship , or agreement. And those are they who are transgressors . ( 910 )
If they repent , establish regular prayer (ash- shalaata) and regular charity , then they are your brothers in the din . And we explain those verses for a people who know. ( 911 )
If they violate his oath after their covenant, and they revile your religion , then fight the leaders of the unbelievers , because they actually are people that can not be held to his promise, in order that they stop . ( 912 )
Beginning of Surah 9 is clearly not talking about a ritual in any form. Conditions described in the beginning of this Surah is the condition when there is conflict or war . Of 95 and 911 we find an interesting thing . There is no point in the ritual prayer for those who are polytheists because it will not prove anything , especially when the full conditions of conflict .
The meaning of prayer from the beginning of Surah 9 can be understood as " obey the covenant . " The concept is quite simple the polytheists who are committed to adhere to the agreements that have been agreed upon , should not be combated . Similar meaning can also be seen in the following paragraph .
O ye who believe , if any one of you face death , while he would make one , so be witnessed by two just men among you ; or two other people if you journey on earth , and ye shall be stricken danger of death . You hold two witnesses after the prayer (ash- shalaati) , then they let them swear by Allah if you are in doubt " We will not exchange vows with prices a little , although he was friends relatives, and we will not hide the testimony of God behold us if this would include people who sinner " . ( 5106 )
Both witnesses had been duly comply with treaty commitments they make. In this case the agreement is binding on a person who uttered an oath so that the process of writing a will are free from suspicion .
Learning Process
Let us repeat the above questions Why would anyone who claims to have prayed but still do cruel and unjust ? Prayer should prevent both. But it was obviously impossible a ritual can create a better human . To try to answer the riddle 2945 we need the help of other verses .They said "O Shoaib , whether shalatmu (shalaatuka) who told you that we leave what is worshiped by our fathers or our prohibits perpetrate what we want on our property ? Surely you are a very intelligent trustees again . " ( 1187 )
It seems that the prayers are done Shoaib make him understand what is shameful and unjust , and which are not. That's why he can inform his people about the truth . From there , it appears that prayer is something that can increase one's knowledge .
O ye who believe , do not you pray , you are drunk , so you understand what you're saying ... ( 443 )
Why does God declare that in executing our prayers have to understand what we say ? To be honest , understand the prayer as a ritual performed in a foreign language not understood a lot of people is not something that is consistent with the purpose of paragraph above.
Shoaib was a believer. He understands what he is saying to his people . And understanding that came due that he did pray . So it is logical what is contained in 443 , that if Shoaib perform prayer while drunk or did not understand what he was getting from these activities, it is impossible to 1187 into reality .
Read what has been revealed to you , namely al - book and be steadfast in prayer. Surely prayer restrains from shameful and unjust . And verily remembrance of Allah is greatest . And Allah knoweth what ye do. ( 2945 )
Notice the beginning of the paragraph above, which command to read what has been revealed to us . Apparently reading activity is closely related to prayer. It also can be seen from the following paragraph .
... and craft (rattil) al - quran was based similarity and the correct order (tartiilaa) . ( 734 )
Verily We sent down to the word which will be heavy. ( 735 )
Actually woke up at night is more effective and readings at the time was more impressive . ( 736 )
The word " ratil " it usually means " to read it slowly. " Yet another meaning of this word is " arrange things the same or similar . " Thus, in the context of the verses above, means that in studying the al - qur'an , we asked to collect the verses that talk about the same or similar topics and arranged to be read and studied.
Truly your Lord knows that you stand less than two -thirds of the night, or half or a third night and so were a party of the people with you . And God set the size of night and day . God knows that you will not be able to determine the boundaries of those times , then He gives relief to you , so please read what is easy from the al - qur'an ... ( 7320 )
It turned out to read al - quran it was important according to God , despite the easy part of it . When we connect with the 2945 readings it is clear what should we read during prayers , al- qur'an . And obviously also the why 443 to talk about the word that must be understood .
Say " Call upon Allah, or summon the Mighty . By any name you call upon , He has the best names . " And do not harden your voice in shalatmu and be not too humble and seek a middle way between the two was . ( 17110 )
In short, the activities of prayer we should say what we read . But not too high or too low volume. By incorporating all the above paragraph , then we can conclude that prayer is " learning process "that in doing so required an understanding of the materials studied in order to be applied in everyday life . This is at once the same as stating that the reading of al - qur'an only with Arabic without understanding its meaning , no purpose whatsoever and clearly violates the above 443 .
If we now repeat from the beginning , then it is clear why the prayers are done Shoaib can cause him to act as in 1187 . And it is clear why the 2945 states that prayer restrains from shameful and unjust . Because after reading and studying al - qur'an , someone will have the knowledge or understanding of what is right and wrong .
Prayers = Commitment To The Mandate
Now , after we see how the word " prayer " is used in al - quran , we can make a simple conclusion about what was actually praying . Based on the exposure so far, then the prayer includes all the following meaning do not turn away , the bond covenant , and the learning process . These three aspects can we leburkan into one. Previously let us read an interesting paragraph .Verily We have revealed to the mandate of heaven, earth and the mountains , then everything is reluctant to assume the mandate , and they worried would betray him, and dipikullah mandate it by human beings. Behold, the man was very wrong and very stupid . ( 3372 )
And compare with the following paragraph .
Do you not know that Allah , glorify Him what is in the heavens and the earth and birds with their wings develop . Each one has to know his prayer ( shalaatahu ) and beads , and Allah is Aware of what they do . ( 2441 )
All creatures are scattered between heaven and earth to have an understanding how to perform prayer. It seems that only people who had difficulty . When observed from 3372 , then we can learn that the only man who has a duty from God . Some of the mandate is as shown below.
Say "Come to me to read what is forbidden on you by your Lord , that is Do not ascribe anything with Him , do good to both father and mother , and kill not your children for fear of poverty . We will give sustenance to you and to them ; and do not approach the heinous deeds , both visible and hidden among them , and do not be forbidden by God to kill the soul but with the right thing . " Thus it was ordered by the Lord unto you that ye may understand . ( 6151 )
" And do not approach the orphan's property except to improve it, until he reached his adulthood. And full measure and weight with justice . We do not impose the burden of a person but merely its capacity. And when you say, then ye shall be fair though also he is relative, and fulfill the promise of God . " That God told you that ye may remember . ( 6152 )
And when it is said unto them 'Do not make mischief on earth , "they replied 'We the people who made repairs . " ( 211 )
Indeed, they are the ones who make mischief , but they are not conscious. ( 212 )
In other words , the mandate mentioned in 3372 in essence requires us to not associate God and do not do mischief on earth .
Based on the understanding of this mandate , it can be concluded that prayer is a " commitment to the mandate "or can be shortened as a " commitment "or " bond . " This definition covers all aspects of prayer that has been described above . We do not associate has a duty to God and do mischief in the world. To be able to avoid the destructive act , then we need to get a clue .
Al - book there is no doubt ; guidance for those who fear Allah . ( 22 )
By reading and studying the Qur'an , we will have the knowledge in undertaking it . Mandate that we waistband is closely associated with God din . Prayer is an activity or process that we must do in order to successfully carry out our mandate in question . So when we are held responsible for the mandate , we can be included as an alias of the Right faction who successfully held the mandate imposed .
Commitment is what underlies our actions to not turn away from the teachings contained al - qur'an . This became a basic commitment that we respect any covenant or oath we've ever made. And that this commitment continues to be our motivation for not giving in learning al - qur'an for instructions.
Questions Still Being
As usual , after trying to understand al - qur'an about a specific topic , many questions arise . This article does not discuss matters of technical smelled like manner prayer , when, what position, and so forth . Unless God wills other things will be discussed in subsequent articles .This article is more emphasis on understanding the concept of prayer and purpose of the prayer itself, rather than other things that a technical nature . Because I believe that far more mainstream than to understand the purpose of an activity to implement but not understand the goal and just like a parrot repeating whatever he heard , whether understood or not.

My thoughts are as follows..
Just salat, cause whether you salat X times a day or Y or Z times a day, whenever you miss a salat or did not pray salat righteously, it comes down to that's the amount of faith and wisdom God granted you.
Think about it, whether it is X or Z being the number of times a day, wether we pray those times righteously or not is really up to what God has decreed for us. Some submitters are granted with more righteousness than others. Some even have the amount of granted wisdom to read the salat related verses and contexts to know the correct amount of times.
Others may not have been granted that much wisdom or faith but will still perform their granted amount of righteous salat in their lifetime.
But arguing about the amount of times, when you don't really know, that's dangerous.
