And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician?"

Question for the Arabic speakers. What's the background of the word translated here as magician?

What a statement!!! authoritative judgment comes first that verse is not about the magician and then comes the request to please tell me the verse.

He is talking about this verse 27 of chapter 75
and he is quoting Yusuf Ali's translation. Since his request is to Arabs they may reply and satisfy him.

I know the surah and I know what he is talking about, I was just confused about the choice of the verse and the chapter which no one of them talked about magician, so his request is not in its place .

I didn't understand this "And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician?"" where he found it ?

about " " this verse contain a question of repudiation asking about who is going to take the soul of a person, are they the angels of Mercy or are they the angels of punishment .

          No magician here .

SHAKIR And it is said Who will be a magician?

The scene is of a dying man, his last moements. Have you ever thought that the nearones around a dying relative would never say like this

who is going to take the soul of a person, are they the angels of Mercy or are they the angels of punishment .

After this was said the person thought the moment of seperation from his relatives has arrived. And he died and his toes were tied. Visit some hospital and see what happens immediately after a man is dead, nurse comes and ties his toes. is active participle, singular, masculine, a person who performs last moment rituals-say prayers etc.

I am not an Arabic speaker, however, simple use of corpus.quran.com then looking up the root in project root list (http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm) will give you the lane's lexicon entry and every occurrence in The Quran.

You might find this info helpful, or at the very least, a starting point.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Question for the Arabic speakers. What's the background of the word translated here as magician?

The arabic of magician is magi.

The biggest difference between magi and raqin, is that a magi according to the root is illusionary. Where as ra qaf ya, is in regards to someone doing something fantastic with true powers.

That's what I see from it.

The grammar is in regards to active particple http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_grammar#Participle

Ra-Qaf-Ya = to ascend, rise gradually, mount a ladder. mirqat - stair, ladder, stepping-stone, ascent. raqin - physician, charmer. taraqiya (pl. of tarquwutun) - collar bone(s), throat, clavicle (according to some its root is raqawa or tarqawa).

                raqiya vb. (1)
                impf. act. 1793
                n.vb. 1793
                pcple. act. 7527

taraqi n.f. (pl. of tarquwah) 7526

irtaqa vb. ( impf. act. 3810

                LL, V3, p 306, 307

Ah someone had already posted a comment about the above.

How comes I'm the only one I can remember using those sites?

SHAKIR And it is said Who will be a magician?

                  So, this translation is false.

The scene is of a dying man, his last moements. Have you ever thought that the nearones around a dying relative would never say like this

the word "" is from the verb "" with the "" in the end and it means the person who goes up or who ascends(here are the angels, they are the responsible of taking the soul up to the sky).

the person who performs last moment rituals-say prayers is "" and it is from the verb "" with "" in the end .

look at the difference between the verbs of the words and the words as well.

The translation is not false... the understanding of the word magic is put in there. The translator must have not studied the word magic properly, but rather used modern understanding of the term. An emotional one most likely.

why it is not false ? first he wrote "cry" and there is no word there means cry, the second thing he wrote "who is the magician?" and there is no mentioning of any magician in the verse neither in the whole chapter, so it is False.

As I understand it, raaq in this verse can mean one of two things. Either 1. the participle or noun of "a belief in and the use of wielding supernatural effects (or magic)", or 2. the participle or noun of "ascent".

Thus, raaq in this verse can be either 1. "a practitioner of wielding supernatural effects (or magic)" or "practicing the wielding of supernatural effect" and 2. "an ascender" or "ascending".

Thus, the verse can be read in one of four ways

                        1. "And it was said "Who is ascending?""

                        2. "And it was said "Who is an ascender?""

                        3. "And it was said "Who is a practitioner of wielding supernatural effects?""

                        4. "And it was said "Who is practicing the wielding of supernatural effects?""

All four are, as far as I understand, grammatically valid.

As ever, Wakas has given us all some sound advice verify for yourself.

No, it is an interpretation from "Ibn Abbass"may God be pleased with him, the best and the famous interpreter in the age of the prophet peace be upon him.

P.S you need to study Arabic more than what you think . You don't know the difference between the words .

I've gave you the word from an arabic view because the word is also used in Arabic known that Quran has been written in Arabic, so the word means "ascender" and the one who ascends the soul is the angel, typically they are angels and they divide into two teams, the angels of Mercy and the angels of punishment, so they both arguing about what team should rise with his soul(the person that died). you didn't like this, fine but don't request a proof because this is not science .

                                        Proof, please.

I'll cite one example because they are a lot

                                        http//haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/007.%20Al%20Airaaf/Temp%2001%207.157f%20small.gif
who physically follow that Messenger who is the Chosen and Elevated from amongst those who were not given the Book earlier. That Chosen and Elevated about whom they find mentioned in writing with them in the Tor'aat and the In'jeel.

look at the verse in Arabic word by word . what does he means by "physically follow"? there is no physically in the verse.
second thing he said "that the Messenger who is Chosen and Elevated from amongst those were not giving the book earlier." where the hell he found these things and who told him about that, let's take a look about the real verse in Arabic "( )" here it is the real meaning, Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e. Muhammad &#1605 whom they find written with them in the Taur?t (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) . where he found the words "chosen and Elevated" there no indication of these words in Arabic, so he distorted Quran and he will mislead people with him.

What is the matter? Why sudden twists like the people on the dancing floow? A little while ago you said Ibn Abbas said this and now "I've gave you the word from an arabic view".

And how stupid is the assertion to think that Angels, comprising of performers of opposite jobs Mercy and Punishment, were discussing by the side of a dying man and the dying man also listened and understood what they were talking whereby he thought it is the time of departure.
