    salam all

so is 929 just about spreading the quranic message? it talks of fighting, seems to be a hard way to spread the message
sounds like it advocates bringing down idols and false beliefs too

here is free minds translation, going from 928 to 933
928 O you who believe, the polytheists are impure, so let them not approach the Restricted Temple after this year of theirs; and if you fear poverty, then God will enrich you from His blessings if He wills. God is Knowledgeable, Wise.
929 Fight those who do not believe in God or the Last Day, nor do they restrict what God and His messenger have restricted, nor do they uphold the system of truth; from among the people who have been given the Book; until they pay the reparation, willingly or unwillingly, and they are subdued.
930 The Jews said Ezra is the son of God, and the Nazarenes said The Messiah is the son of God. Such is their utterances with their mouths, they imitate the sayings of those who rejected before them. God will fight them. They are deluded from the truth!
931 They have taken their Priests and Monks to be patrons besides God, and the Messiah, son of Mary, while they were only commanded to serve One god, there is no god except He, be He glorified against what they set up.
932 They want to extinguish the light of God with their mouths, but God refuses such and lets His light continue, even if the rejecters hate it.
933 He is the One who has sent His messenger with the guidance and the system of truth, so that it will expose all other systems, even if the polytheists hate it.

      1. Fight against those who (1) believe not in All?h, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by All?h and His Messenger Muhammad ( &#1605 (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Isl?m) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Jizyah a tax levied from the people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians), who are under the protection of a Muslim government.

look at (1) and (2) and (3) >>> so it is about fighting those people (who they have been described in the verse).

the problem is that it does not limit the fight to a war by saying "fight those who fight you" or something like that

it just says "fight them because they are in the wrong path" in short
that their ways are destructive ways

No, you misunderstood the term fighting, is not killing them or something like that as you think, in fact is just fight them but not kill them, if they want converts to Islam, fine. If they do not want Islam offer Jizyah for them and they will stay in their own religions but they must pay a Jizyah>> see above the explanation of Jizyah.

I think sometimes we need a war to establish the real facts (I think you must read some wars before Islam have their benefits and some wars in just a few centuries have showed their benefits.) and this war that proposed from God is just about his message and the benefits of fighting is showing the great Morals of this religion which is Islam(peace) . and in the other hand if we don't fight them, they will fight us, it is occured 100% . Look what they do now in the world.

It does limit, had people translated the complete meanings of the first imperative verb.
            http//www.haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/009.%20At%20Tauba/9.29.gif
            You people confront war, with those who do not believe in Allah, and nor believe in the Last Day;

The imperative verb is on the pattern what we call Form III. Its peculiarity is that this structure will always have transformative meanings. To cause to become active participle for the act enfolded in the Root and in this case that has essentially the mutuality factor.

The meaning will be manifestly clear if it is read with other relevant verses on the subject.

If you read even further up in al-Quran, you will find this in 913

Would you not fight a people who broke their oaths and intended to expel the messenger, especially while they were the ones who attacked you first? Are you concerned about them? It is God who is more deserving that you be concerned with if you are believers.

What is the problem? We are prescribed to fight in the way of our creator.

                Our creator is

                • All powerful
                • Knower of things seen and unseen, knower of all
                • Merciful beyond measure
                • All sustaining

This entity tells us to remove that which does not follow his way of peace. A cancerous tumour is made of the same cells that every other cell in the body is made from. Yet we clearly see that these cells disturb the peace and cause much pain. So we blast them with radiation until they burn away.

The key to following these verses properly lies in identifying those cancerous cells, our radiation treatments tend to kill off a lot of good cells and leave some cancerous cells untouched. That does not solve the problem. What are these cancerous cells?

050.024 Do cast into hell every ungrateful, rebellious one,

050.025 Forbidder of good, exceeder of limits, doubter,

050.026 Who sets up another god with Allah, so do cast him into severe chastisement.

021.047 And We will set up a just balance on the day of resurrection, so no soul shall be dealt with unjustly in the least; and though there be the weight of a grain of mustard seed, (yet) will We bring it, and sufficient are We to take account.

                Problem? I think not.

                  Salaam
I think the problem with the way people interpret this verse is that they assume that hostilities must be initiated by the muslim side. This is a possibile interpretation of the verse but not the most plausible since the Quran on multiple occasions says that war is only for self defense and that there is no compulsion in religion. So since people who follow the deen can not fight aggressively unless they have been attacked and people can not be induced to follow the religion, initiating a war to extract a "poll tax" would seem anti Quranic unless someone wants to argue that by not paying jizya, the Muslims (whatever this means) are being attacked, which is an argument I've never heard made and its sounds quite ridiculous in my opinion. On the other hand, jizya literally mean compensation and Chapter 9 is talking about a war initated by opponents of the deen so within the defensive context, it would seem to me that 929 refers to whatever reasonable compensation (reparations, apology, etc) you want to try to get from your opponents, unless of course they incline to peace or ask for sanctuary as in 96.

Look at 2190-194 an 490, which are about as precise as they get.

means fight but not kill..Taliban must stop now behaving like idiots, this is the meaning pronounced by an Arab by birth.. Non believers should also now feel relaxed, no war like thing, it is just fight, less dangerous than wrestling club's competitions.
