It is not that HAdith is something to follow necessarily, but it is our duty to check weather the blame has any air?Dogs are not the only animals that cause rabies. Besides rabies can be caused by wild dogs. The prohibition doesn't appear in the koran.

I remembered my secondary school tragedy. Pantang(if) any dog enters mistakenly into the school compound, after few hours you'll hear the dog being shot. Very pity.

you are just being emotional thinking that i attack the prophet's sayings directly when i have explain to you that i was talking about the sunnis, and i was not even referring to any of the hadith that you've provided in previous postRaaajah, you must understand that in FM here, we believe that the true sayings of Muhammad are from Quran and not hadith
My point here is that sunnis are not only deviating from true teaching of Muhammad(ie Quran) but they are deviating from the hadith as well - in the hadith that you provided, you said that it was because of rabies that the prophet issued out the killing of dogs, but here i've shown you what the sunnis are doing, killing dogs just because they enter the school premises, pouring hot water to a puppy and even banning dogs from Maldives! -

You can own dogs in Singapore but its very tough to nurture dog in apartment..
And land house is very expensive there...Btw i have 3 cute poodles just like this one

dalia, i was a sunni like u , the problem that faces us is the love we have for mohamed, since i started accepting the quran only, trust me, i love mohamed even more and i find him a very high in rank in the wordly life and spirituel life, specially since i realised that he was married to wives according to the quran, amazing, i love allah and i thank for sending is mohamed, I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH

I think a very good point is did the Prophet himself add that he is the Messenger of Allah in the shahada?
OMG - as so happens on this forum I realised I had never thought of it that way before...but YES!!! If we are meant to follow the Prophet then it's only logical that we wouldn't be adding that he is the messenger. sun

I'm new as well and I also have struggled with the whole dog issue. None of it makes sense and further than that many of the hadith are really violent. For example the one that mentions killing of black dogs. It's crazy stuff in my opinion. Even if Allah had mentioned in Quran (which it's NOT mentioned) that dogs were impure or something like that, killing just black dogs doesn't make sense. It reeks of weird superstition and sadly I know people right now here in Australia who when they see a black dog will mutter things under their breath about it. brickwall (that emoticon is sooo handy on here P)
Dogs are beautiful animals and praise God that it was not mentioned in Quran that there was anything bad about them. Perhaps at one time historically there were problems with dogs running wild around people or health issues (I mean rabies is still a problem in some countries) and maybe that is where these very strange ideas, which go against Quran, began and somehow made it into hadith.
I'm not suggesting for a moment that people ''should" or "must" own dogs as pets or be comfortable with dogs, each to their own - but it makes me very frustrated to hear all the time of peoples fears and dislikes being attributed to Islam.
Alhamdulillah you like animals (Allah's creatures) including dogs. They can be amazingly sweet creatures and I bet they like you too!
