Salaam hope,
I've read that section previously on Aidid's interpretation of salah, and he's entitled to his own opinion.
But the sheer quantity of racism and paranoia in that 'book' bring into question all of his other theories as well. For his constant childish accusations about Arabs is not Islamic, nor based in realism or history. And if a man has such wildly distorted views of reality - then that makes us wonder what else he's managed to fudge up as gloriously.I realize that having one thing wrong doesn't mean all his points are wrong...but then we look at his assertion that "salat al fajr" and "salat al-isha" are "private times" and his whole theory looks rather ridiculous.
My belief is that God has no intention to confuse us. If there are 2 interpretations of a verse, it is my opinion that the most obvious interpretation is correct - God doesn't want us to sit around second guessing what He may or may not have meant.
Salaam Wakas,
and I would agree that there is no "ritual prayer" in AQ.
In your first link, it says
the salat should be done during/close to the morning & evening twilight times (i.e. 2x per day)
And later on
Thus, instead of morning & evening, it would be at the start of the working day and at the end (implied in 245, whatever that may be for each individual.
But these definitions still describe a daily ritual...unless you are taking "ritual prayer" to mean "physical ritual" ?
Because I'm sure you know that any timed activity is still a ritual...Also, although I know this is off-topic, but I couldn't help but notice
The traditional understanding of "zakat" is that it means "charity". Interestingly, however, even though the word appears over 30 times, not once is it equated/defined as charity, not even a reasonable implication to mean such a thing.
9218 - Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself (alladhee yu'tee maalahu yatazakkaa)
-- This indicates that giving money (clearly stipulated by yu'tee maalahu) purifies oneself (yatazakkaa). Zakah is generally used as a noun, used in the context of 'giving zakah'. One cannot give purity, and this verse indicates that to purify (yatazakkaa is a verb) one must give money.
Or how have you interpreted it?
Salaam

Ritual or non ritual?
To wash your face, hands, head and feet then Reading the Book everyday at dusk and dawn becomes a ritual.
The sunni prayer without the positions standing, bowing is nothing more than reading the Quran!
The Great Reading is the connector, and to connect with the Most Merciful you need to read, meditate His words and understand it.
237
Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration and his Lord turned toward him; for He is Oft-Returning Most Merciful.Peace

peace ths,
Please re-read, carefully. I said "no ritual prayer in AQ". Please do not separate my words. My article does not state salat means "prayer".
Re 9218
Yes, giving one's wealth/money is one way to purify/better/develop /positively grow oneself."give/bring forth, show/produce betterment /positive growth/development" etc

Salaam Wakas
Just a miscommunication. I take prayer to mean either physical or non-physical, and the word ritual is always bandied around by everyone who thinks prayer is not physical, so I thought you were contradicting yourself. To me whether you are praying traditionally or praying in your own unique method, then it is still prayer.
