Just to share the good news that last week I was able to go to Mecca for Umra. Finally got to do the Tawaaf at the Kaabah and witness the marvel that has been passed down through generations of believers for 5000 years... passed down to us from the time of Prophet Abraham...

I hope you enjoyed that great spiritual journey, I hope I can go there too (maybe next year inshallah) to walk on the footsteps of the prophets Muhammad and Ibraheem. I guess it was a fantastic experience to prostrate directly in front of the Kaaba. May God strenghten your faith and all the muslims around the world.

I did not want to reply to this thread initially because I didn't want to bring anyone down from the feeling that they have after going on the pilgrimage. But I realise that perpetuation of falsehood is not a good thing. We should not become like those who incorporate falsehood into the deen simply because we don't want to be ostracized or because the masses believe it to be true and we should leave them to perpetuate this view without clarifying the true Quranic position.
What I want to say about this is that I have been on this pilgrimage that we have been told all our lives is a duty we are bound to perform. While there, I "experienced" many of those things that I had been told I would. I experienced these things even though even at that time I was not someone who put any weight in hadith and other extra quranic sources. I even felt that I had returned with all my sins forgiven, etc. I performed the rituals, including pelting the "shaitaan", even kissing the stone (yuck). Anyway, all these were simply emotional reactions to things I assumed to be true without investigating them. This is usually the problem with people.
I can compare it to an incident that took place when I was involved with "spiritual" healing and going to the graves of so-called saints. I questioned this whole idea of going to the grave of a saint or communicating with some dead / alive saint in order to get the help of God. I wanted to know where in the Quran we find permission to do this. I was directed to a verse that apparently says that we cannot communicate with God except through some kind of medium. Here's the real important part of this. I read the verse the way it was told to me rather than the way it appears, even in the translation I was reading it from. I eventually went back to the verse and found that it said something quite different from what I was told.
The point is, we see things the way we are indoctrinated to see them. Many times upon honest investigation, we find that things are not quite the way we were told they are.
In the case of the pilgrimage I went on, it was a complete waste of time and money. It was a self serving delusional act of lunacy. All because I didn't take enough care to understand the message of the Quran regarding hajj.
So while I went on a pilgrimage, I have never participated in the hajj.

Do I have to shave my head completely ? I remember reading about it.

For the moment, I cant recall from the Quran, I remember reading about shaving your hair, but did not investigate much further. Enlighten me, studying for my exam on 27th, so I am holding myself from opening the scriptures right now (that will make me read and read for hours).

Yes, I've seen that article but paid no attention to all those mumblings.
Regarding the direction of the Qiblah, the disbelievers will find a million reasons to disbelieve. But when the Holy Quran is absolutely clear about the rites, rituals and locations, I see no reason to question and ponder. If the Quran says the Qiblah has been changed, then it means exactly that- IT HAS BEEN CHANGED. Only the hypocrites would try to twist the meaning that the direction is changed for salat while for everything else, we still have to go the old way....
If the Qiblah were still in Jerusalem, why would GOD mention safa and marwah as parts of the pilgrimage in the Book? Are we expected to go Jerusalem and then to Mecca too?
Unless ofcourse someone were to disbelieve the Book itself... But then that would be his problem.
The fools among the people would say, "Why did they change the direction of their Qiblah?" Say, "To GOD belongs the east and the west; He guides whoever wills in a straight path."
We thus made you an impartial community, that you may serve as witnesses among the people, and the messenger serves as a witness among you. We changed the direction of your original Qiblah only to distinguish those among you who readily follow the messenger from those who would turn back on their heels. It was a difficult test, but not for those who are guided by GOD. GOD never puts your worship to waste. GOD is Compassionate towards the people, Most Merciful.
Qiblah Restored to Mecca
We have seen you turning your face about the sky (searching for the right direction). We now assign a Qiblah that is pleasing to you. Henceforth, you shall turn your face towards the Sacred Masjid. Wherever you may be, all of you shall turn your faces towards it. Those who received the previous scripture know that this is the truth from their Lord. GOD is never unaware of anything they do.
Even if you show the followers of the scripture every kind of miracle, they will not follow your Qiblah. Nor shall you follow their Qiblah. They do not even follow each others' Qiblah. If you acquiesce to their wishes, after the knowledge that has come to you, you will belong with the transgressors.
*2142-145 "When Gabriel conveyed to Muhammad the command to face Jerusalem instead of Mecca, the hypocrites were exposed. The Arabs were strongly prejudiced in favor of the Ka`aba as their "Qiblah." Only the true believers were able to overcome their prejudices; they readily obeyed the messenger.
The argument provided by the writer would be like proclaiming that Safa and Marwah hold no importance for pilgrims performing Haj or Umra. Why? Coz Hagar was never mentioned in the Holy Quran! Thus she never ran between safa and marwah, coz she ever existed, therefore logically we too dont have to complete the rituals.
One can either believe in the whole Quran or nothing at all. It is when we believe in parts that the confusion arises.
Hope you will not be influenced by the thoughts of the disbelievers. May He guide us all in the straight path.

You still have a Sunni mindset. Why should having an opinion about Qibla means you are a disbeliever or hypocrite? Why should it mean a person must have a hidden agenda?
Did not the Koran say
2.177. It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah.fearing.
2.115. To Allah belong the east and the West Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing
