Yo, it's about time I introduced myself. I'm a 17 year old guy who's been lurking around here for almost a month now.

My journey to to God Alone began two months ago, when I was told that music was haram. I was kinda surprised, but I stopped listening to music, and I even closed my ears sometimes whenever I heard music. But something felt wrong. It was very hard to believe that God would condemn music the same way He did with murder and shirk etc. And that's when my journey began. I came across an article on Wikipedia where this website was mentioned. The rest is pretty self-explanatory.

As of right now, nobody around me knows that I've left Sunni Islam. I live in Scandinavia, where Islamophobia is gaining momentum by the day. It's funny to see how all the arguments against Islam is related to the violent, mysogynist nature of the hadiths. I also find it quite impressive to see how no Sunni muslim has managed to completely discredit Quranists (I hate that word, but can't find an appropriate synonym).

I must also admit that I find a lot of members of this forum to be pretty well-versed with pop-culture references and the internet in general. That's awesome!

      Welcome Brother,

I am a young guy like you to, Im 19 year old boy, going to university to study economics. I was also turned off the by the absurdity of few hadiths, it was dogs that did it for me. When I first heard about dogs being dirty/evil according to hadith. I immediately knew that there was something wrong with them, and everytime you mention the Quran story of the dog with the people in the cave, the sunnis always reply but that was the exception.

I think for guys like us, we should do best to try to reach out and tell western people about the misconception of true islam, and to the traditionalits only present unbiased logic and facts, and let them decide for themselves. If you sew one seed of doubt in their minds of their traditional views, eventually it may grow to a be a tree of enlightenment that will help them to come closer to the true path.

For my last point, I do not hate the word Quranists, though I hate the connotations of being a sect. We are not a sect. We are muslims, we follow Islam, the way of life prescribed by Allah (the One who is not a god, but THE GOD/Divine/Absolute)

Hope we all learn more about Islam.

      Salaam and Peace

              Respect.

welcome welcome to the forum, brother.

673 And He is the One who has created the heavens and the earth with the truth, and the day He says Be, then it is! His saying is truth; and to Him is the sovereignty the Day the trumpet is blown. Knower of the unseen and the seen; He is the Wise, the Expert.

20102 The Day the horn is blown, and We gather the criminals on that Day white eyed.

23101 So when the horn is blown, then there will be no kinship between them on that Day, nor will they ask for one another.

2787 And on the Day when the horn is blown, then those in the heavens and the earth will be in terror except for whom God wills. And all shall come to Him humbled.

3651 And the horn will be blown, whereupon they will rise from the graves massing towards their Lord.

3968 And the horn will be blown, whereupon everyone in the heavens and the earth will be struck unconscious, except those spared by God. Then it will be blown another time, whereupon they will all rise up, looking.

5020 And the horn is blown on the promised Day.

6913 And when the horn is blown once.

748 So when the trumpet is sounded.

7818 The Day when the horn is blown and you come in crowds.

Trumpet/horn is a musical instrument, yes?
Sunnis love to debate on this and I heard on sunni woman say that this trumpet is in fact a part of a throat of an angel, I think, not quite sure but even so, it is still a musicaal instrument, right?

Be patient and ask God to extend your knowledge.
              Peace.

                  Hallo Captain Awesome and welcome!!!

I am, just as you, a resident of a Scandinavian country and I know, just as you, that people here are quite islamaphobic. Ironic because the scandies are in other instances very open to new ideas and concepts...I guess it is up to you and me and others like us to show them what islam is not as horrible as they think.
My journey to God Alone is a bit different than yours though. I was introduced to islam by my wife. I was a bit sceptical at first but the more I read of the Quran I realized that it was a book of love and understanding. It gives guidance in those areas where we need guidance, it gives the rules of morality and teaches us to respect one and another and never ever judge someone in the name of God.

It was not until I finished reading the Quran I started wondering why the Muslims were not following what the Quran said. Why is my wife not allowed to pray/fast when menstruating, why must she cover her hair, why am I not allowed to sit down with my family (non Muslims) for a nice dinner just because they enjoy a glass of wine, why do I have to think that my sister is a lesser/lower person than me just because she is homosexual.......some of the questions I had, there were a lot more.....

                  I went to the local mosque and asked the Imam. He gave me answers to all my questions, some good thoughtful answers, some in total contradiction to the Quran, and some so obviously connected to his country's traditions that it was not even close to the Quran or any Hadith.........Anyways we were discussing almost arguing, but what made me shun all Hadiths were the following;

I asked the Imam "So if a person comes to you and says he wants to learn about Islam, you give him the Quran and ask him to read it, right?"
                  The Imam said "Yes"
I asked "And then after he has read the Quran and says he wants to become a Muslim you will then give him the collection of Hadiths and ask him to use those to implement the rules of the Quran?"
                  The Imam said "Yes"
I asked "And then you will ask him to reject some of the Hadiths so he is able to choose side, right?"
The Imam said "What do you mean?"
I said "Well, he has to, since you are not allowed to do it for him, choose for himself which Hadith he wants to follow. If he believes in all he will be Sunni, Shia and Sufi all on the same time, and that is impossible since they contradict eachother in some areas. So in other words he must choose a side, Sunni, Shia or Sufi and then reject the Hadiths that must be rejected in order to follow that group"
The Imam said "Eh, you don't understand"
I said "Yepp, I don't understand. Why does this person have to segregate himself from others just because they do not follow what he follows? Isn't it enough that he only believes in the only thing that connects all us Muslims, namely the Quran?"
The Imam said "My brother, you have not understood what the Islamic way is all about. We cannot rely solely on the Quran, we need guidance from our Prophet and that guidance can be found in Sunnah and Hadith."
I asked "Even though it means that it will separate him from other believers, and those can even be his own family members"
                  The Imam said "Yes"
I said "Well then, I am sorry to say that I cannot do that, I refuse to build barriers between me and my brothers. I will believe in the core and if they so want they can reject me, but I will not reject them."
The Imam said "Then you cannot call yourself a Muslim."

This my path to God Alone.

                    Captain Awesome welcome

I started wondering when a 'sister' convert told me to wait while she checked I could dye my hair and what colour I could do it! hypno

Emil, love the logic of the imam! 'you cant rely solely on Quran'! brickwall duh refer to Quran.

I was told nothing about hadith and sunnah when I converted, didnt have a clue, just read Quran and knew it was truth, like a smack in the face. After that I got chatting on the net and it took a while to find what sunnah was and what hadith were, it was all when I read those but for a while I was hypno then ! and here I am yay

I find this Imam's level of ignorance is unfortunately very common among Sunnis. Sometimes it seems like they simply won't approve of your opinion, no matter how strong your aguments might be. It is very unfortunate...

Yeah, but what can we do? Imams are imams.....but some of them are good guys. When I got married it was a bit of a cultural mix. Me Swedish, my wife East African and the Imam (not the same as I was writing about before) West African. Anyways, because of the culture mix the Imam said in his little speech (in front of everyone) that "the one thing that truly connects all of us here today is our belief in God, and that belief is based on the Quran, nothing else."

Needless to say, I was doing bravo and the audience looked like ???

yes, we gotta remember that and also be able to see what is what and who is who using the information give in the book

6112 We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other fancy words, in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their fabrications.

2531 And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the sinners and sufficient is your Lord as a Guide and a Helper.

934 O you who believe, many religious leaders and preachers take the people's money illicitly, and repel from the path of GOD.

I once stopped listening to music, too! And just like everything (natural) you tried to suppress, it came back stronger of course

As for your fellows, maybe they're just having extremosunniphobia, i can't really blame them for that.

Please share some good Scandinavian music on the music thread!

                                  Welcome Awesome!

For me it is through crititcal-thinking on the 'the shahada'..
Would it make sense for Muhammad to recite the shahada? What would he say?
I testify that I AM the messenger of God??

Take a look at the vid below, min 300 to see how silly it is..

Since .. according to Suniism if one doesn't profess the shahada he's an infidel! doom to hell!
Well in that case, the prophet himself might be considered an 'infidel' since he most likely wouldn't say that
"I testify that I AM the messenger of God"..

                                  Salam / Peace

I cannot imagine such a Life without music.. Music has been an important part of my life since my childhood. I'm living in a "Muslim" country. I was 19 when I began to read Quran...Then I saw there is no difference between being Jewish or Christian or Muslim..Therefore I decided to turn into my nature and left my behind all weird things like fabricated religions.

Absence of moses from this video, clears up the agenda, as i have pointed out before.

You Jews (equals to Zionists) cannot take away the love of Muhammad and Issa from our hearts.
