Quran and Us. Easier said, then could be done
-
Let us just try to analysis Quran as a book. In addition, to all emotional and religious attachments and connotations ascribed to it. After all it is a book, as well.
This book was written some 1400 years ago, in the spoken and written language of the time. Surely, people at time would not have any difficulty at time, just like we can understand any book written our languages.
Hence, no need was felt to write explanations even by prophet himself or companions. Or for that mater any rules of grammar. Although, there is evidence that Imam Ali felt need for language preservation and started the efforts due rapid curruptions.
However, languages evolve and change with time to the degree that they can become extinct. Unless preserved in writing. (Please see attachment).
Same thing happened to language that Quran was written in. Lane in his preface quotes from Abu-l-Fida that Kaleefah Al Waleed son of Abd-l-Melik towards the end of 1st A.H., spoke such a corrupt dialect that he could not be even understood by Arabs of Desert (Lane?s preface page viii).
Hence, it would be understandable that understanding of book was bound to be lost very early on.
Hence, attempts were started to preserve the language. But this was a gradual process too. This extended over centuries. Ibn Hisham whose is considered a very celebrated and respected Grammarian, did not write his book describing use of particles, Al Mughni until 7-8 AH.
However, one finds out that while people seemed to be struggling with language until 7-8 A.H. Imam Tabri was able to write his exegesis (Tasfseer of Quran). In 3 A.H., with out even all linguistic resource put together as exemplified by work of Ibn Hisham in 7-8. AH. Despite, the fact that language was already so corrupt at the end of 1 AH even among natives (By the way this Tabri's Tafseer is basis of all later Tafaseers).
To continued. I shall keep adding to this as I have time.
