    Philosopher,

If you ring a bell or blow a horn or sound an alarm or clap your hands, wave a flag that signifies time to prayer, that will do for me. Would God not accept that?

I haven't come across in the Koran how to say azhan and neither in the hadith. I am sure rajaah here would refer me to the ayats in the Koran or the volume in Bukhari where Muhammad instructs a man how to call to prayer.

Your question is regarding mentioning Muhammad. Well, why are you singling our messenger Muhammad? how about abraham, moses, jesus? God taught abraham how to pray. How did abraham call his people and lead them in prayer? I am sure of it that he didn't mention Muhammad in his azhan.

So the question really is what is the purpose of praying, and why are you praying? are you calling your family to pause and remember to think, remember God alone asking for God to give you strength, forgiveness, etc or do you want your family to also pause and think/remember Muhammad being the last of the pophets?

There's no 'proper way' to do adhan / azaan / call to prayer...
It's a 'cultural' thing and people on different parts of the world do it differently.
It could be 'ringing a bell', 'blowing the sofar' or it could be as simple as
      "Now let us pray"..

      Salam / Peace

For any declaration one needs to quote authority. And for human beings the authority is the Messenger of Allah, since Allah does not communicate with general public, except through the Messenger.

firstly, we do not make distinction between the messengers

2136 Say "We believe in God and in what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make a distinction between any of them and to Him we surrender."

hence why not call out "and jesus, abraham, moses etc are messengers of allah", why only muhammad? doesn't calling on muhammad ONLY constitute 'making that distinction'?
ALL the messengers came with the same message, that is 'there is no god but God alone', so how come muhammad is the only 'authority'?

secondly, actually we should not call on anyone besides allah at all

7218 And the places of worship are for Allah (alone) So invoke not any one along with Allah

thirdly, correct shahada is already in the quran

318 God bears witness that there is no god but He, as do the Angels, and those with knowledge, He is standing with justice. There is no god but Him, the Noble, the Wise.

          and fourthly & interestingly

3945 And when God Alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter are filled with aversion; and when others are mentioned beside Him, they rejoice!

nobody disputes that muhammad in fact was the messenger of god. the question is whether he is in a so called 'limited partnership' with allah that we should call upon him in our shahada, in our azan and in our salat.
please decide from the above verses for yourself because god said

1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of. For the hearing, eyesight, and mind, all these you are responsible for.

i personally feel no discomfort or 'uneasiness' when discussing prophet muhammad (or any other prophets for that matter), i only have an issue when one of the prophets is elevated above others, while god in quran clearly tells us not to.

          peace peace

This is during the lifetime of the prophet. To imply it means now would mean us having to ask a dead man to seek forgiveness for us, to intercede, which he could only do during his lifetime, unless you are suggesting to pray to Muhammed?

This is because they are indeed the people who do not reflect to differentiate .

denotes only calling through speech containing words, if someone applies his own intellect in reading the words of Qur'aan.

Why forget sequence of events? Who knew about Qur'aan at a certain point in time? Where was Qur'aan except the word of the Messenger when he proclaimed that he is the Messenger of Allah and has been communicated Aayat of Qur'aan. People believed first in what? Qur'aan or the claim of being Messenger of Allah?

Allah HAS Quran, Allah tells Quran to Muhammed to tell the people.

Who knew about Qur'aan at a certain point in time?
Allah did, then Muhammed did (the messenger) then the people did

Where was Qur'aan except the word of the Messenger when he proclaimed that he is the Messenger of Allah and has been communicated Aayat of Qur'aan.

The messenger recited surah 96 first, he did not say he was the messenger of Allah as even he didnt know what was happening. In 7158 he is told to say that BY Allah. So at that time the Quran was part with us.

People believed first in what? Qur'aan or the claim of being Messenger of Allah?

Quran. Without believing those words were from God then one can't believe he was a messenger, him being a messenger is secondary to Quran being from God. People did not believe he was a messenger unless they first believed the words from God, even then many doubted. When the message was sent to the Christian king (?) sorry can't remember it exactly, the king? only had the words and believed through that, it was irrelevant who showed him those words as it wasn't muhammed that took that message to him but someone else, after hearing the words he believed that this man Muhammed was a messenger of God, AFTER hearing the words of Quran

Evvery Messenger first introduces to people as being the Messenger of Allah. Later he produces the evidence. First is the person to be believed, if one has doubt, he may ask for evidence.

Musa and Haroon alaimissalm visit Firaun and his elite and introduce themselves as Messengers of Allah without producing any book or unprecedented sign. And when he did not accept them as Messenger of Sustainer Lord of the worlds and threatened to be jailed, response was that will you not believe even I produce the signs.

And please go through the entire Qur'aan, all Messengers first introduced themselves as Messengers of Allah and asked them to believe solely in Allah "and follow me".

From where you got red marked observation? He was the first to believe and accept what was revealed to him.

YUSUFALI Verily those whom ye call upon besides Allah are servants like unto you Call upon them, and let them listen to your prayer, if ye are (indeed) truthful!

                                013.014
YUSUFALI For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering (in the mind).

                                018.052
YUSUFALI One Day He will say, "Call on those whom ye thought to be My partners," and they will call on them, but they will not listen to them; and We shall make for them a place of common perdition.

                                019.048
YUSUFALI "And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides Allah I will call on my Lord perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest."

                                046.005
YUSUFALI And who is more astray than one who invokes besides Allah, such as will not answer him to the Day of Judgment, and who (in fact) are unconscious of their call (to them)?

Evvery Messenger first introduces to people as being the Messenger of Allah. Later he produces the evidence. First is the person to be believed, if one has doubt, he may ask for evidence.
and how is anyone going to accept someone claiming to be a messenger without giving the message they are to be messenger of?

Musa and Haroon alaimissalm visit Firaun and his elite and introduce themselves as Messengers of Allah without producing any book or unprecedented sign. And when he did not accept them as Messenger of Sustainer Lord of the worlds and threatened to be jailed, response was that will you not believe even I produce the signs.

And please go through the entire Qur'aan, all Messengers first introduced themselves as Messengers of Allah and asked them to believe solely in Allah "and follow me".
but there is nothing in Quran until chapter 7 where Muhammed states he is the messenger, you are working on assumptions. The first words were 'read/recite', not 'I am the messenger of Allah'

From where you got red marked observation? He was the first to believe and accept what was revealed to him.

Didnt he have to be told by his wifes cousin? he thought he was crazy THEN he believed. he didnt tell anyone else for a while. He of course was the first to believe in the message as he was the one getting it but he couldnt believe without the words given him could he? he didnt wake up one day believing he was the messenger of Allah and THEN get the message, the words came first, belief in the Message came before belief in the messenger, no message no messenger.

                                        Peace Mazhar,

I want to attract your attention to the fact that Mosa was raised by the wife of Pharao, so Pharao used to know Mosa before this one announces that his is a messenger, he was not a foreigner.

Messengers don?t just fall down from the sky, they are raised in communities and are sent to their own people, to educate them and to make them aware of the consequences of their actions, either good or bad.

Generally, people see messengers as some super-humans although nothing from the quran suggests this. To the contrary, the quran says that they were only humans like us. They were surely wise and altruistic humans, they chose to spread the knowledge they have received among the people to help them, not to keep it and abuse their ignorance.

Yes! that is what I also noticed and have pointed out to various, forum members, it all starts by uneasiness mantion of Prophet Muhammad peace is upon him. Well said.

It is like a finger pointing toward the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory. - Bruce Lee

Muhammed aka Ahmed as all messengers were pointing to the message so we don't miss The God. It looks like you and Mazahar are concentrating on the finger too much and missing all that heavenly glory (The God).

                                          PEACE
