    Leyna

I am really glad lazy month is over and you're able to actually get things done!

    Surah Al-Baqra
The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month, and whosoever of you is sick or on a journey, (let him fast the same) number of other days. Allah desireth for you ease; He desireth not hardship for you; and (He desireth) that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that peradventure ye may be thankful.

Leyna are you a Muslim? I have never called any one a Munafiq, but this is just too much.

Take a deeeep breath, my dear. And then re-read the last posts.

I was obviously not referring to the month of Ramadan as per the Qur'an but to the way it is being implemented here in Egypt.

        No not comprende at all!

In Ramadan we increase the usage of sugar and starch, fruits for example, the excess glucose produce by these is stored as glycogen and is stored in liver and muscles which we can use, in absence of direct intake.Your body can store about a half a day's supply of glycogen. So, the amount of carbohydrate you eat determines the amount of glycogen stored in the liver and muscles, and in Ramadan we use it a lot of carbohydrates, more than usual.

See, there you go again, making assumptions that everyone is the same. Raaajah, you are from Pakistan, right? When you write "WE increase the usage of sugar and starch", you include me, right? What do you know about my diet during Ramadan or any other month? PLEASE do not think that just because we are muslims we have the same food culture.
The body can store about half a day's supply of glycogen, that is true. Is 16-18 hrs half a day? I think not..
Raaajah, you obviously have a good balance in your diet during Ramadan, I congratulate you on that. But the fact is that an alarming amount of muslims either loose or gain weight during Ramadan, and that is an indication that not all have the same diet and that not everything is just right, you agree with me on that? The lost/gained weight may be diet, but it can also be a result of starving. If you fast during 16-18 hrs and then have a large intake of food chances are that you will gain weight.

And I totally agree with Leyna when she called Ramadan the lazy month. A couple of years ago my company sent me to Tunisia for work. I was the boss and the workers were local. During Ramadan the production dropped to almost nothing, everybody spent the day sleeping or trying to do as little as possible. Why? They were tired and exhausted. It didn't really have so much to do with lack of energy, but with dehydration.

what about when a person is asleep for 8 to 12 hours and not taking in glucose, would that be considered starving too or is it down to 'energy' thats needed to 'function' while awake?

I am asking as here in Egypt the vast majority of those fasting have been asleep from after fajr to 3 or 4 hours before iftar, so in effect are fasting only 3 or 4 hours while awake, they don't use a deal of energy even then though.

Just like others pointed out, metabolism decreases when you sleep. However, sleeping is when the body repairs itself, that is why it is important that during the day you get enough vitamins and minerals and enough energy for your body to produce new cells during the night. So no, you don't "starve" when sleeping, but if you do have a low energy level when going to bed, you may inhibit the body from repairing itself. But that was not really your question...the fact is they conserve energy when they sleep so much.

It didn't really have so much to do with lack of energy, but with dehydration.

A friend of mine here in Egypt owns a big company, and his production drops down to less than 30% during Ramadan. This year he told me that he found workers having fallen asleep in the bathroom several times.

It's not only about dehydration or lack of food. Even if his workers, for example, decided not to fast, they would not be able to escape the typical Ramdan lifestyle ? eating LOTS of food all night, watching TV after dinner, i.e. from 2 a.m. to about 4.30 a.m. and so on. Those workers are usually from low-income families, they don't have the luxury of a private bedroom, thick walls etc., so if the whole family / neighbourhood is up all night, they have no choice but to do the same.

I really don't care how people chose to practice their religious duties, but I'm just observing that it's one big scam here. Life in the whole country is on hold for four weeks, day is turned into night, stores, banks etc. only open at odd hours, it's perfectly acceptable to be lazy, to not work etc.

At the same time, as I said, there is a lot of pressure on people to fast. Even sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, old people are encouraged to fast and cheered on if they put their health in danger. People who chose not to fast for valid reasons have to do so secretly. People who dare having a snack or a drink in public are often being attacked ? despite the fact that there are about ten millions of Christians in this country who are well within their right to eat and drink whenever and whereever they wish, as far as I'm concerned. And so on ?

To me, all that just seems utterly hypocritical.

This is just a lame excuse to call the best month a lazy month.
People here in Pakistan do proper planning (Pakistan is not a developed country but still they do some planning), for Ramadan, so the lack of production in this particular month will not effect over all production year wise.
And I doubt the part in red of your statement.

It is only to suggest that we can make changes and adjustments according to the conditions. After all it is only 30 days.

What would you say if I doubted you in your statement that in Pakistan you do proper planning? Would I have any right to do so when I have never been there and I have not met many pakistanis? How many rebuttals would you post? Raaajah, you seem very fast to have an opinion or judgement about things that you know nothing about. Calling Leyna a non-muslim, doubting my experience from Tunisia. You ridicule the ones who are having problems fasting for 30 days, saying that all they need is faith. Who died and made you judge?
You may have a very good system and society can still function relatively good during Ramadan. However, the fact is that other countries have lost the true meaning of fasting. Leyna pointed out how it is in Egypt, I could agree because I had seen the same in Tunisia. I stated that some muslims in the northern countries actually play russian roullete with their health when they fast 16-18hrs a day. Since you seem to know how to fast in a proper way, Raaajah, why don't you share your experiences instead of telling us we are doing it wrong. I am starting to believe that you are just trolling, my friend.

I would agree with leyna regarding month of ramadan being lazy. In Pakistan though the trend is not like what it is there in Gulf countries,
that every body sleeps the whole day, but definitely, the productivity is down to 20% or may be even less.

When I was like everbody else , even then i use to wonder, why would God render us useless for almost 1/12th of our lives?

There is evidence it used to be 10 days originally, from the traditional sources themselves. As documented here for example.

                                      Siki

It is when i did , what everybody did, or, are doing, just copying from parents or previous generations, fasting 30 days in imaginary Ramadhan.

Now fasting for ten days , makes sense to me.

Then you were following your parents = Human beings
Now you are following Aymen = Human being

So how does it work I can't just understand.
                                      Siki

When I was like everbody else , even then i use to wonder, why would God render us useless for almost 1/12th of our lives?

So now you are useless for less than 1/12th per month.

Now we have DR QZ next, showing us from Quran that there is nothing as "fasting" in "Ramadan" and you are doing "Fahaashi" by "fasting".

and he already has followers, see, how easy it is to make followers, no matter how absurd your claim is, even they insist on calling those who "fast" as not knowing the actual meaning of Quran, and that makes sense to them as it makes to you for "fasting".

Therefore the much you move away from Quran and Muhammad Peace is upon him, the more confused you are.

There is evidence it used to be 10 days originally, from the traditional sources themselves. As documented here for example.

That is almost Rs.10,000/ to see documentary proof.

If you could just quote some, or tell a cheaper way.
