Veiling is the biggest impediment in the way of conveying Islam in the West. (Murad Hoffman)

    Dr. Shabbir Ahmed
What Body Parts Women Can Show In Public Face, hands and forearms, heads, feet and ankles as during ablution. See 56. A Hadith that agrees with the Quran Ibn Umar said that during the times of Rasoolullah (S) men and women used to do Wudhu together. Bukhari, Kitabil Wudhu].

    He tries to overcome Hindrance,
but he really is logical, not like most of free-minders, who say "do as you wish".

    Dr. Shabbir Ahmed
Dress Code for Women in Islam.
ONE The best garment is that of nice, modest conduct (726).
TWO Cover your chest in the presence of unrelated men. (2431)
THREE Draw a shawl around your person when outdoors in public. (3359)
While these three basic rules are not enough for those who do not trust God, the true believers know that God is ENOUGH.

Sooo....is that a stamp of approval from you Raaajah?

    No translation is perfect.

The main problem I find with QXP is that it is almost impossible to use and conclude from it, because its not literal, you often have to check a word for word or other translations. But it is decent, and I often refer to it for a different view for awkward/unusual verses.

    See www.ourbeacon.com

Thanks Wakas. I will take your opinion as my own. peace

      Hi Emil,

Same here, i prefer the most literal translation possible. I was excited when i see his quran app in his website, i thought the direct "hands-on" links are how it (an AQ reader) is supposed to be made for ease of reading and cross-referencing of AQ verses (cross-"inferencing"?). However i found out that what he did is not simply letting the readers find and observe the link for themselves, but he also put this "cross-verse" references in the translation itself. So sometimes i feel that the "flow" is lost during this "explanations". Still i think it's worthy to check, when you are looking for some "alternative" understanding

I have heard of him and his translation but I never used it for any purpose. Personally I prefer RK's and free-mind's translation. It's very straightforward and easy to understand. I have to say, I don't like Mamduke Pickthall's translation at all. I find it too shakespearish. ;D

            Peace all,

I went from Rashad Khalifa's translation to Dr. Shabbirs (thanks to Bro. Arnold). I like the fact that he studied Quraish and lived in Saudi Arabia. He also apparently doesn't use any outside sources and relies solely on the explanation from other verses within the Quran itself. The historical aspects of some verses is used based on history (hadiths?) but has no impact on the message itself.

I admire the fact that this translation and brings the Quran as a logical book, emphasizing logic and destroys miracles such as the literal idea of raising the dead, parting of the sea, etc. After reading parts of his translation, I feel that myself has grown and broken out of the chains of other translations.

            Peace

              Peace,

my main toolset currently (all online)

Online Quran Project/OQP on http//al-quran.info -- for general reading, usually by comparing these translations (seems to be limited to 5 translations at once)
              Muhammad Asad*
              Shabbir Ahmed*
              Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali
              Shakir

              • keepers

Quranic Arabic Corpus http//corpus.quran.com/-- for grammar-syntax

              Lane's lexicon + Project Root List/PRL on http//www.studyquran.co.uk/PRLonline.htm,
              also http//www.aboutquran.com/res/lex/Lexicon.htm

the best way to learn the language might be to spend some years living with the Bedouin Arabs in the desert, speaking in the Quraysh dialect... As for now, i'm using what i've got, that is using the Arab-English lexicon as a medium, while getting the "general nuance" from M Asad and Shabbir Ahmed's translations (they did spent time living and learning the language with the Bedouins).

                Dear All

No translation is perfect. In fact some can be utterly confusing as the translator tries his/her best to stick to literal meanings. Some prefer doing an exposition rather than translation including GA Perwez, Dr Shabbir and a few others.

I found a wonderful website with 20 plus simultaneous translations/interpretations including Dr Shabbir. When ever I get stuck or confused, it usually helps me out.

                      Salam All
I find Dr Shabbir a bit agressive in his writings.
He does not give accurate and well known references for his inferences on Islamic History.
His Quran translation is not literal which I find disconcerting. It is as if he writes what he feels should be the meaning of the verse and not what it really is.

Quran as it explains itself is the best english translation of the quran rendition. I use it daily, but it is always advisable to use other translations for better understanding

Yes they are all lacking in careful precision filled with assumptions. In process of doing my own "literal" translation, easily and consistently done using a word processor and substitution next to the Arabic; e.g.

1141 say I seek refuge in Lord the mankind
                          1142 King the mankind
                          1143 God the mankind
1144 from evil the whisperer the one who withdraws
1145 the one who whispers in breasts the mankind
1146 from the jinn and the mankind

I didnot want to create a new post, that is why I am using an old post, well, here is my question. Does anyone know why Dr.Shabbir has all this version of his Qurans translation, he gets a new translation every now and then, and also what do you think about the posters especially moderators of this forum, moderators don't hesitate to change the content of one's post as they please, any current contributors or anybody who had any experience may share. Thanks

Translation of others is not Quran; but individual take is Quran; Even each Arab should have his own understanding of an ayat and the way he takes will serve him as his personalised guidance from Quran. Translation is the righteous way one understands of the verses to guide him out of his current adversities. What we shall keep in mind before reading Quran is that Allah knows its content in real times and in real situations of every individual; Allah guides whom He will through His verses, to His path; who can be the best of Interpreters besides Allah? Every single verse shall guide the entire human kind of 100 billion people individually at any given point of time in 6666 billions ways, if only Allah guides each interpreting and teaching His verses Himself.

If we know Quran is wahi, then through Wahi alone we understand the guidance through Quran. And unless there are a 100 billion individual views to each verse i.e., unless each verse gives individualised understanding or translation by the leave of Allah, reading Quran avails nothing at all to none.

If I am allowed to put suggestion, I think it's better to be careful with QXP (The Qur'an As It Explains Itself).

I had time to get to know Dr. Shabbir and his forum for a while on my early journey when I discovered the truth of 'sahih' hadiths, and based on my personal experiences, now I prefer to not involve myself in his forum.
