    Lol @ the title.

Anyway, I thought I might as well make this and ask for some opinions, to see if they match mine.

Verse 293 has in it "Miserable indeed is what your belief orders of you if you are believers!", of course we know what the Arabic of this would be.

Now when I was reading this, what came to mind is the sunni belief that stoning for adultery is ordered by God. I was wondering if anyone else things it falls in the category of demonic teachings ordered by a religious system on Earth.

short ans yes, i think it is. Nice catch, very applicable to any "miserable" people yet they think they're the believers.

Also I wasn't thinking it just meant that (stoning) but anything similar to it. i.e. if you think a woman should walk in a tent with just a slit to see through. Why would you then need to restrain your eyes for?

I wouldn't really say they're miserable. I think it was aimed at their actions promoted by their belief.

I think that was the point.

really, when the focus/direction of something as natural as "sustaining/protecting life" is being thrown aside, where are you going to then, in this life?

you'll slowly get "miserable", focusing on things that don't matter much, to even things that go against human nature.

in my case, i almost 'lost myself' because of that. until i begin to get the gist of AQ's message.

it really is "miserable", little by little or all at once, and the whole effect is even greater than the sum of its parts. i'm sure u know what i'm talking about.

            peace

By the way why isn't there a viewable PDF file of "Exploring Islam in a New Light An Understanding from the Quranic Perspective" on the main webpage? They do it for the other texts they're displaying.

Because I think we should fast at some point. Might as well at least choose a time of year even when you're not sure.

Although if you meant why it sucks...well...no food and...no food.

I've decided to fast these 2 days of Arafat and Ashura the 9th and 10th days of Dhul-hijja respectively. It's supposed to be prophetic tradition that those who fast these two days will have many of their sins forgiven it's in hadith plus it can never be too bad to fast.

I don't think in Iran adultery is punished with lapidation out of any sunni belief. Unless you mean that if it is sunni it is miserable, but if it is something else it is not.

                        Salaam
