52.(O Prophet!) Form now on you are allowed neither to marry other women nor to change them in place of your wives, except those whom your oath has - ma malakat yameenuk.
Sounds to me like "exept those to whom you're already married"

OPEN BURHAN QURAN BROWSER (http//openburhan.com/) It is not lawful for thee (to marry more) women after this, nor to change them for (other) wives, even though their beauty attract thee, except any thy right hand should possess

La yahillu laka alnnisao min baAAdu wa la an tabaddala bihinna min azwajin wa law aAAjabaka husnuhunna illa ma malakat yameenuk

Form now on you are not allowed (to marry) women - La yahillu laka alnnisao min baAAd'
and to change them for any from your wives - wa la an tabaddala bihinna min azwajin
even if you like their beauty (the beauty of other women) - walaw aAAjabaka husnuhun
except whom your oath has - illa ma malakat yameenuk

MY TRANSLATION From now on you are not allowed (to marry) other women, neither are you allowed to change them for any from your wives even if you like the beauty of other women, except whom your oath has.

I am still unsure, especially about my translation of the words an tabaddala bihinne min azwajin. Will you please help and answer my two questions

(1)Are the ma malakat aymanuhun mentioned in 55, that is, those whom the oaths of the Prophet's wives have, engaged to the Prophet's wives, which seems to be claimed in the article?!

(2)What is the difference between those whom the Prophet's oath has in 52 and those whom the oaths of the prophet's wives have in 55?

      Peace,
      Hasan Ak?ay

someone possessed by an oath is not only engaged partners, see 2431

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Spent significant time researching it, and in my opinion conventional understanding (female sex slaves) is a strong possibility.

I don't understand where is the justice in that interpretation? So someone can have a couple of sex slaves forcibly taken yet consensual intercourse outside of a social construct is a grave sin? There must surely be a line where things meet, where they are clarified.

                Peace,

My understanding of MMA is the same as Wakas, and for me it means wedlocks, but maybe if you take the complete definition of wedlocks than it would work

wedlocks means when engaged for mariage but can also mean someone divorcing you have a buffer period where you can cancel the divorce.

                Peace

loxbox13, are you referring to 2431? If so, it is in the feminine aymanuhunna

                      Wakas

Yes, i dont know if it is a sentence that define the sentenc ebefore it

Aymanuhunna sounds in this verse as their husbands

or maybe aymanikou, is a general meaning for close blood people

as woman to husband or family closest members

for exemple, your wife is your pair and what your rights possses, and vice versa

but your colleague, is your pair , but stops right there

it's just a suggestion, can this be the meaning ?

for exemple allah say prays the 2 extreme paets of the day and close to the night
They say the 2 parts of the day that are the near parts of the night

U get what i' am trying to say ?

the word Wa, We always translate to And, doesn't have always to be an addition, but an explanation of the word before it

                      I might be wrong

Whatever you call them, you must treat them the same way as any other human being in Islam

Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess(MMA) For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;-

And let those who cannot find a match keep chaste till Allah give them independence by His grace. And such of your slaves as seek a writing (of emancipation), write it for them if ye are aware of aught of good in them, and bestow upon them of the wealth of Allah which He hath bestowed upon you. Force not your slave-girls to whoredom that ye may seek enjoyment of the life of the world, if they would preserve their chastity. And if one force them, then (unto them), after their compulsion, lo! Allah will be Forgiving, Merciful.

It has been said previously, but in view of the differente situations, I go back to it could it not be the condition of somebody, man or woman having social, legal or economical responsibility for somebody else, be it marriage, engagement, as a pupil, as a protected person, like say when you bring someone from another country and that person in order to get legal residence in the new country for whatever period must have somebody else assume responsibility por his or her stay and his or her economic needs. The inviting person would have to respond for the invited. What kind of charge or charges is meant by the expression would depend on the context. In the case of marriage it could be, as loxbox suggests, that zauj is merely defacto partner, and MMA is somebody to whom you are betrothed or already married, and of course there may be even frequently the case of persons having both conditions at the same time, wife or husband and MMA, but it is the conditions tht are being listed, not the persons.

It is narrated, in ahadith I suppose, that muslims used to have people with them who had run away from the kafirs and who were taken by individual muslims, males or females, for protection, like the case of a woman who took her non muslim ex husband. Regardless of the faithfulness or authenticity of the hadiths relating that, from the point of view I am exposing it would be a clear case of MMA.

On the other hand, that those specific mentions of women having MMA go to show how clearly and uncontestably wrong are those traditional interpretations of the Qur'an which are usually put forward (like for instance currently by Citizenderkosmos) to Musims who reject them as proof that they are trying to "beautify" the Qur'an, but that in fact traditionalists are right and that real meaning of the Qur'an is in fact the worst possible meaning, in the present case MMA=female sex slaves.

If traditionalists have been able to ignore several clear, black on white mentions of women legally "possessing sex slaves" in the Qur'an, what gurantee do we have of their absolute wisdom when interpreting anything else, specially regarding women? That is not to say that there has not been anything good or even very good in traditonal thought, or that there have not been many schools and trends which were very "advanced", but were forgotten in the self-complacency of decadence.

                          Salaam
