    Peace/Salam,

And We enjoined man to do good to his parents. His mother bore him with hardship, gave birth to him in hardship, and his bearing and weaning lasts thirty months. So that, when he has reached his independence, and he has reached forty years, he says My Lord, direct me to appreciate the blessings You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do good work that pleases You. And let my progeny be righteous. I have repented to You; I am of those who have submitted. It is from these that We accept the best of their deeds, and We shall overlook their sins, among the dwellers of the Paradise. This is the promise of truth that they had been promised. (4615-16)

Looks like this specific form of words will reset all your sins upto the age of 40. I never realized this mercy until a few days back - and I have read that verse hundreds if not thousands of times!

      Peace Layth,

I think the "reset button" is in the act(s) represented by the word repentance/t-w-b, and the whole sentence in general, regardless of age.

I don't get the phraseology used in 46/15. (until when he reached his intensity AND he reaches 40 years).

        Is this an explanatory thing?

Why isn't the word 'umur' or age mentioned here?

          Salam,

Because a person can be 40 and still immature.

Therefore, the criterea is "maturity" + "age 40" + "specific saying" = "forgiveness of all pst sins"

              peace Layth,

Therefore, the criterea is "maturity" + "age 40" + "specific saying" = "forgiveness of all pst sins"

You forgot to mention sincerity of belief, sincerity of words, to do good work, sincere repentance, sincere submission....... then "forgiveness of all past sins" is an option.

              However, some questions

              1. Do all such people have parents and children? If not, do you reason that those who do not miss out on this "reset" button opportunity?

              2. Is this the only place that says sins can be forgiven? If not, is there "specific sayings" in these verses too?

A person cannot be 40 and still immature, if by "immature" you are in some way referencing "shudud". "shudud" means "physical maturity / the period from adolescence to adulthood", it is not a reference to one's mind.

4615 is discussing an archetype, as is done in many places throughout The Quran.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                Salaam.

What about counter-clock wise at Hajj?
                Any connection?
I mean, they walk around anti-clock-wise. Sins deleted????

                Let me know.
                God Bless you.

                Peace.

How many people at the time of revelation actually lived to the age of 40?

It is evidently an archetype, that of a fully developed human being who acknowledges his place in the vast cosmos, and realises his creator's wishes. This archetype is the perfected creation.

To make an analogy, God is a car manufacturer and every human is a car, the world outside the factory is "paradise". Only those cars that successfully pass all their tests and live up to standards are deemed saleable models and only they get to go to paradise. They are the transformation of the imaginary blueprint in the mind of the creator to the real world object, or the transfer of a painting in the mind of an artist to the final piece on the canvas.

If you avoid the major sins that you are prohibited against,
then We will cancel your existing sins and admit you to a generous entrance.

Say 'O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of God for God forgives all sins (except shirk) for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'" (3953)

And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons the evil deed and knows what you do." (4225)

if any of you did evil in ignorance, and thereafter repented and amended (your conduct), lo! Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (654)

Forgiveness is only incumbent on Allah towards those who do evil out of ignorance and then turn quickly (in repentance) to Allah. Toward them will Allah turn in mercy; for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom." (417)

Forgiveness is not for those who do ill until death faces one of them, who then says, 'Lo! I repent now, nor for those who die as disbelievers, for such we have prepared a painful doom.'" (41

Isn't that the verse which Rashad Khalifa uses to claim that if you die before 40 you will automatically go to heaven?

So can we just sin away knowing that come 40 everything will be wiped off and we can start again?

                                  Salam,

                                  1. Do all such people have parents and children? If not, do you reason that those who do not miss out on this "reset" button opportunity?

All people have parents...Whether they are alive or dead would not negate from the ability to thank God for His blessings.

                                  1. Is this the only place that says sins can be forgiven? If not, is there "specific sayings" in these verses too?

Sins can be forgiven at any point (on condition of the repentance being sincere and God accepting such) - However, what we have here is a unique "pledge" by God that He will eliminate all prior sins on fulfilment of His conditios - and God never breaks His word.

A person cannot be 40 and still immature, if by "immature" you are in some way referencing "shudud". "shudud" means "physical maturity / the period from adolescence to adulthood", it is not a reference to one's mind.

If it is a physical state then its mention becomes unnesesary to mention as the age of 40 covers the physical aspect. However, if you notice, all the verses that reference this speak of it as a "state" rather than an age (1222, 1734, 2814)

                                      peace Layth,

                                      Thanks for clarifying.

Everyone will have parents (alive or dead) but not everyone has children, so this is left unexplained in your view.

I agree, sins can be forgiven at any point, thus somehow implying a special pledge for those of a specific age etc seems odd to me.

                                      The verse says hatta/until itha/when balagha/reached ashuddahu/maturity wa/and balagha/reached arbaAAeena/forty sanatan/years

It could be interpreted in several ways. It is a matter of weighing the evidence to see which one is most likely etc.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

I fail to follow what you are saying. The verse in question is addressing the individual - and we are all ultimitely this.

I agree, sins can be forgiven at any point, thus somehow implying a special pledge for those of a specific age etc seems odd to me.

That it is mentioned in cause enough for contemplation - a mercy above the many mercies already given.

                                        The verse says hatta/until itha/when balagha/reached ashuddahu/maturity wa/and balagha/reached arbaAAeena/forty sanatan/years

It could be interpreted in several ways. It is a matter of weighing the evidence to see which one is most likely etc.

                                        Noted.

                                          Salaam All,

Age forty is not equally the age of maturity for every human being. The following verses are the examples of NOT every human reaches mental maturity and wisdom at the same age.

Besides, God forgives sins all together if He Wills, regardless of age.

Also, the idea that all who die before the age of forty are forgiven all their sins and will end up in Heaven/Paradise has no Qur?anic basis. See the following verses for clarification.
