I am reading through the Qur'an and trying to understand something

Christians equate Jesus to God, which I am realizing is not correct.

Jews believe Jesus failed to fulfill the prophecies because he did not usher in a new kingdom or a period of peace, and is not the messiah. That makes sense to me.

Islam, however, states that he is the messiah. I can accept this on the grounds that he will return in the future to fulfill the rest of the prophecies. However, I was reading on here that some believe Jesus lived a regular life and died. If that is the case, then how could he have been the jewish messiah?

Thanks for any insights - as I weigh Islam, I am just starting to get into eschatology and trying to work everything out.

    Salaam.

546 And We sent in their footsteps Jesus, son of Mary, authenticating what was present with him of the Torah. And We gave him the Gospel, in it is a guidance and a light, and authenticating what was present with him of the Torah, and a guidance and a lesson for the righteous.

616 And when Jesus, son of Mary, said O children of Israel, I am a messenger of God to you, authenticating what is between my hands of the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me whose name will be most acclaimed. But when he showed them the clear proofs, they said This is clearly magic.

    Peace.

Behold! the angels said, 'Oh Mary! God gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter, and in (the company of) those nearest to God. He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. He shall be (in the company) of the righteous... And God will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel'" (345-4.

Christ, the son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how God makes His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!" (575).

He said 'I am indeed a servant of God. He has given me revelation and made me a prophet; He has made me blessed wheresoever I be; and He has enjoined on me prayer and charity as long as I live. He has made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable. So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life (again)!' Such was Jesus the son of Mary. It is a statement of truth, about which they (vainly) dispute. It is not befitting to (the majesty of) God that He should beget a son. Glory be to Him! When He determines a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is" (1930-35).

And behold! God will say 'Oh Jesus, the son of Mary! Did you say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of God?' He will say 'Glory to Thee! Never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would indeed have known it. You know what is in my heart, though I know not what is in Yours. For You know in full all that is hidden. Never did I say to them anything except what You commanded me to say 'Worship God, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them while I lived among them. When You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a witness to all things'" (5116-117).

When Jesus came with Clear Signs, he said 'Now I have come to you with Wisdom, and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) on which you dispute. Therefore, fear God and obey me. God, He is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him -- this is a Straight Way.' But sects from among themselves fell into disagreement. So woe to the wrongdoers, from the penalty of a Grievous Day!" (4363-65)

Jesus was indeed the messiah "When the angels said O Marium, surely Allah gives you good news with a Word from Him (of one) whose name is the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, worthy of regard in this world and the hereafter and of those who are made near (to Allah)." (345)

          and

"And their saying Surely we have killed the Messiah, Isa son of Marium, the apostle of Allah; and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them so (like Isa) and most surely those who differ therein are only in a doubt about it; they have no knowledge respecting it, but only follow a conjecture, and they killed him not for sure. " (45

He will come back later to fight the Antichrist.

          Volume 3, Book 34, Number 425

          Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will shortly descend amongst you people (Muslims) as a just ruler and will break the Cross and kill the pig and abolish the Jizya (a tax taken from the non-Muslims, who are in the protection, of the Muslim government). Then there will be abundance of money and no-body will accept charitable gifts.

          and

          Book 37, Number 4310

          Narrated AbuHurayrah

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus (peace_be_upon_him). He will descent (to the earth). When you see him, recognise him a man of medium height, reddish fair, wearing two light yellow garments, looking as if drops were falling down from his head though it will not be wet. He will fight the people for the cause of Islam. He will break the cross, kill swine, and abolish jizyah. Allah will perish all religions except Islam. He will destroy the Antichrist and will live on the earth for forty years and then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him.

          And finally, the whole story

          Book 041, Number 7015

An-Nawwas b. Sam'an reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) made a mention of the Dajjal one day in the morning. He sometimes described him to be insignificant and sometimes described (his turmoil) as very significant rand we felt) as if he were in the cluster of the date-palm trees. When we went to him (to the Holy Prophet) in the evening and he read (the signs of fear) in our faces, he said What is the matter with you? We said Allah's Messenger, you made a mention of the Dajjal in the morning (sometimes describing him) to be insignificant and sometimes very important, until we began to think as if he were present in some (near) part of the cluster of the datpalm trees. Thereupon he said I harbour fear in regard to you in so many other things besides the Dajjal. If he comes forth while I am among on, I shall contend with him on your behalf, but if he comes forth while I am not amongst you, a man must contend on his own behalf and Allah would take care of every Muslim on my behalf (and safeguard him against his evil). He (Dajjal) would be a young man with twisted, contracted hair, and a blind eye. I compare him to 'Abd-ul-'Uzza b. Qatan. He who amongst you would survive to see him should recite over him the opening verses of Sura Kahf (xviii.). He would appear on the way between Syria and Iraq and would spread mischief right and left. O servant of Allah! adhere (to the path of Truth). We said Allah's Messenger, how long would he stay on the earth? He said.. For forty days, one day like a year and one day like a month and one day like a week and the rest of the days would be like your days. We said Allah's Messenger, would one day's prayer suffice for the prayers of day equal to one year? Thereupon he said No, but you must make an estimate of time (and then observe prayer). We said Allah's Messenger, how quickly would he walk upon the earth? Thereupon he said Like cloud driven by the wind. He would come to the people and invite them (to a wrong religion) and they would affirm their faith in him and respond to him. He would then give command to the sky and there would be rainfall upon the earth and it would grow crops. Then in the evening, their posturing animals would come to them with their humps very high and their udders full of milk and their flanks stretched. He would then come to another people and invite them. But they would reject him and he would go away from them and there would be drought for them and nothing would be lef t with them in the form of wealth.

He would then walk through the waste, land and say to it Bring forth your treasures, and the treasures would come out and collect (themselves) before him like the swarm of bees. He would then call a person brimming with youth and strike him with the sword and cut him into two pieces and (make these pieces lie at a distance which is generally) between the archer and his target. He would then call (that young man) and he will come forward laughing with his face gleaming (with happiness) and it would at this very time that Allah would send Christ, son of Mary, and he will descend at the white minaret in the eastern side of Damscus wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron and placing his hands on the wings of two Angels. When he would lower his head, there would fall beads of perspiration from his head, and when he would raise it up, beads like pearls would scatter from it. Every non-believer who would smell the odour of his self would die and his breath would reach as far as he would be able to see. He would then search for him (Dajjal) until he would catch hold of him at the gate of Ludd and would kill him. Then a people whom Allah had protected would come to Jesus, son of Mary, and he would wipe their faces and would inform them of their ranks in Paradise and it would be under such conditions that Allah would reveal to Jesus these words I have brought forth from amongst My servants such people against whom none would be able to fight; you take these people safely to Tur, and then Allah would send Gog and Magog and they would swarm down from every slope. The first of them would pass the lake of Tibering and drink out of it. And when the last of them would pass, he would say There was once water there. Jesus and his companions would then be besieged here (at Tur, and they would be so much hard pressed) that the head of the ox would be dearer to them than one hundred dinirs and Allah's Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would supplicate Allah, Who would send to them insects (which would attack their necks) and in the morning they would perish like one single person. Allah's Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would then come down to the earth and they would not find in the earth as much space as a single span which is not filled with their putrefaction and stench. Allah's Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would then again beseech Allah, Who would send birds whose necks would be like those of bactrin camels and they would carry them and throw them where God would will.

Then Allah would send rain which no house of clay or (the tent of) camels' hairs would keep out and it would wash away the earth until it could appear to be a mirror. Then the earth would be told to bring forth its fruit and restore its blessing and, as a result thereof, there would grow (such a big) pomegranate that a group of persons would be able to eat that, and seek shelter under its skin and milch cow would give so much milk that a whole party would be able to drink it. And the milch camel would give such (a large quantity of) milk that the whole tribe would be able to drink out of that and the milch sheep would give so much milk that the whole family would be able to drink out of that and at that time Allah would send a pleasant wind which would soothe (people) even under their armpits, and would take the life of every Muslim and only the wicked would survive who would commit adultery like asses and the Last Hour would come to them.

            Peace "Badr",

Again one can see from this how hadith came via the influence from Christianity as they believe simialrly that Jesus will return but "COINCIDENTALLY" this very important story, IF it were true, has not been mentioned in the Quran, NOT EVEN TOUCHED UPON.
PLEASE read the following article for more such indications that hadith is undoubtedly due to the influecne of Jews and Christians(AND I MEAN MOSTLY THE ONES TERMED "SAHIH&quot

              GOD Bless!

How come u didn't bring any evidence from the book of Allah ? u only brought what people wrote, prophet mohamed didn't xwrite any of your hadiths, i know u agree with that because they were written by bukhari etc.... right ?

Why the Coran does not support your theorie that u brought from the hadiths ? Allah alwys say bring your evidence if your truthful, so if you are truthfull , bring your evidence from the words of the truth , if u can't , than it's better to don't preach what people wrote, they might be lying and u send up lying wit hthem
              Peace

                Masiha mean just anointed

The New Testament Greek words for ?anoint? are chrio, which means ?to smear or rub with oil, and by implication to consecrate for office or religious service?; and aleipho, which means ?to anoint.? In Bible times, people were anointed with oil to signify God?s blessing or call on that person?s life (Exodus 297; Exodus 409; 2 Kings 96; Ecclesiastes 98; James 514). A person was anointed for a special purpose?to be a king, to be a prophet, to be an builder, etc.

Last preserved testament of GOD Quran says

That Muhammad was but a Apostle and all other apostle before him has been died. apostles had passed away before him; and his mother was one who never deviated from the truth; and they both ate food . Behold how clear We make these messages unto them yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth!

So can you explain why only Jesus have been called "Messiah" in the Quran ?

Quran have used many nick names of Prophets, Not Just for Jesus. For example Dul-Kapil and Warner from Kapal Wastoo.

Important point to understand is that Quran says, follow the Divine Law

Some truths of Quran are blew

1- All Prophets were mortal humans and were equal in Ranks.

2- Quran say, Do not make any difference among prophets.

3- Quran says, Prophets never show any sign but with the permission of Allah

4- Quran says, Muhammad and Jesus were but apostles of GOD.

5- The duty of all Prophets were to deliver message of Islam to People and to judge among people from the books that Allah sent upon Prophets

6- According to verse 544, any one who make Sharia Laws from any other man-made books than the BOOK of Allah are Kafir. As per this verse all who make sharia Laws from so called hadith books that were fabricated by Persian Zoroastrian Imams 300 yrs after Prophet, are Kafirs / Infidels. So today Majority of Muslims who believe in hadith books are in fat Kafirs as per verse 544

7- Quran says, No one bear the sin of other. Not a mother of his son and vice versa.

8- Quran says, the best deed is to serve fellow humans and the daily rituals are NOT THE BEST DEED

9- Quran says, never do offense on any one, even if he is non-Muslim. Do just strong defense.

10- Quran says, Who make sects in Islam are out of Islam and are like Mushriks . So the sects called Suni Shiites wahabis and others sects, all are out of Islam --- Not Muslims as per laws of Quran.

11- Islam says, the biggest sin that Allah will not forgive is a Shirk ---> to make a partner beside GOD.

12- Quran VERY CLEARLY announces in verse 572, all who say "Christ" is GOD; will be denied from paradise and Quran declare such a person an EVILDOER and Guarantees HELL for all those says Jesus is GOD

13- Quran says, that those Jews and Nasara will have reward from Allah, who lived before than landing of Quran and who used to do good deeds and used to follow commandments of their original scriptures. To say Christ GOD is not a good deed but a blasphemy and Quran never Promise Reward for such people but in fact Guaranteed HELL for who says Jesus is GOD

14- Quran says, all humans are same equal. No one is superior to other but who is better in GOOD CONDUCT

15- Quran CONFIRMS Again and Again, ONE GOD has JUST one path that is ISLAM. Quran confirms again & again that all prophets including Moses and Jesus preached same one message of Islam.

16- Quran says, Islam was not brought as new thing by Prophet Muhammad but Islam that already was being preached by Noah and all other prophets was perfected on Last Prophet Muhammad. So from where Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism etc came? Dogmatic Inventions by Priests in ages.
