I assume that doesn't stand if I am in a road accident and a Christian surgeon needs to make a decision to operate to save my life? Would he need to waste valuable time finding a muslim to make that decision while I was unconscious? ;D

If you look at 4.76, 7.27 and 10.62 Awliyaa means friends. 7.27 in particular talks about the Devils being made friends of the disblievers and not to be tempted by the Devils and there friends. So to be friends with a disbeliever is not impossible but the message seems to be that we must fall on the line of caution when dealing with them, and not to take them into our confidence.
