What's that supposed to mean? I could judge you too spider thingy. Relax, you'll get there in the end God willing.

Why are you so agressive ? especially the women -\

I found harsh to cut the man with an "off topic" while he said he's depressed, muslims are supposed to help themselves.

                          Salam,
I guess we should encourage it..
In the course of friendship, we could invite person to know about Islam..
Further, only friends who trusts us will be able to accept what we are saying.
I believe it should be encouraged.

And if we consider the way Muslims are behaving nowadays, what's the point in keeping friendship with them. Especially, in my country we may find so many Traditionalists, non rational people who believe in so many superstitions and upholding Hadiths..etc etc

Thank you for all your input, it really did help. I now believe from reading the verses of the Quran on this topic especially chapter 60, that there is nothing wrong with being friends with anyone as long as they have not incurred Allah's swt anger or tried to hurt you or lead you astray. If like my friend Helen they are tolerant of your lifestyle do not put you down for it, help you and are kind and respectful to you then I see nothing wrong with it.

                                    Salam all.

I personally don't think there is any problem with having friends of different faiths. I am sure god in his infinite wisdom would have known that Muslims would live in areas where they would have to work with and live side by side with those of other faiths. It would be difficult not to make friends in these circumstances unless you were some kind of extremist.

From a personal note I am also in a situation where the majority of my friends are from non Muslim backgrounds. And to be honest I prefer it. I think it helps me be who I really am and be able to exercise my religious views more freely. I do have friends from traditional Muslim backgrounds but I am never at ease fully and can not express quran alone views to them. I have to a few and they just seem gob smacked at the ideas. One of them just criticizes my ideas and said she would pray I go back to proper Islam D So I have chosen not to bother anymore.

This is one of those instances where it becomes very clear that the text should be approached with some common sense. Looking for the spirit and not the letter (not that I'm saying the letter of the law in this case demands no friendship with non-muslims). It's inconceivable that the same text that promotes multi-culturalism as a blessing, and endorses overall tolerance and lack of compulsion toward others, would in the same breath say that we could not take as friends people who believe differently from us.

The Creator is merciful and wants what is best for us. Have to always remember that while reading the text.

I agree. I am possessed by the devil according to my so-called Muslim Brothers and Sisters, and yes they too say I will pray for you to come back to the deen. My non muslim friends think that the way I am being treated is horrible. No wonder people think Islam seems to stay in the dark ages.

Have you talked to them about it?
Ask them, if you want, how do they recognise the devil in you?
I don't think you're possessed by the devil nor jinn and I'm a muslim.
