I think it is speaking about beings able to know. It says "man fihinna". "Man" is a pronoun that stands por persons. Had it meant things and not conscious beings, it would have said "ma", which is for things. That is far as I can ascertain.

Also, as far as I know the Qur'an does not use "samawat" as a synonim of heavens in th christian sense, it uses it in astronomical sense, as I think is still the case in Arabic.

So, as I see it, it does mean there are beings in the seven "samawat".

    Salaam

Thats a very interesting post OPF, I like it. I supose if God has existed since eternity than it is very probable that there are other living beings outside Earth.

      Thanks

1744 - The seven heavens declare His glory and the earth (too), and those who are in them; and there is not a single thing but glorifies Him with His praise, but you do not understand their glorification; surely He is Forbearing, Forgiving.

Logically speaking, the quran mentions heaven + earth most of the time but here it says 7 heavens and earth, with reference to those existing inside these things. If it said life on earth alone then the verse would say those who are in earth, not just in reference to all 7 heavens AND earth, the quran is very specific when it comes to wording.

What to make of this? Does the arabic refer to living entities or is it speaking generally about matter itself?

here is another verse that supports what u thinking

Allah is He Who created seven heavens and of the earth a similar number. through the midst of them (all) descends his Command that ye may know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah comprehends all things, in (His) Knowledge. 6512

And another verse that clearly says living creatures in the heavens,, Dawab is arabic is used only for biological beigns, or walking and creeping beigns,

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the living creatures that He has scattered through them and He has power to gather them together when He wills. 4229

There is extraterrestrial life , and it's more favored than humans, meaning superior, here's the verse that prouves it , and one more thing , the sons of adam are favored than the angels, because they serve mankind, and the jinn, because we are khalifa, so look at this verse, it says clearly that there are other creatures more favored than mankind

We have honoured the sons of Adam; provided them with transport on land and sea; given them for sustenance things good and pure; and favored them above most of whom we created 1770

above most , and not all

I interpret this the same way I interpret "huwa rabb 'l-3aalameen" - He is the Lord of all the worlds, and possibly related to the concept of a multiverse

6512 God who has created seven heavens and the same number of earths; the command is sent down between them; that you may know that God is capable of all things, and that God has encompassed all things with His knowledge.

                      7 heavens and 7 earths?
Seems like this is talking about parallel universes...
