59:21 - How does a mountain humble itself?

Had we sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and crushed by the fear of God. Such are the parables that we put forth to mankind that ye may reflect.
Al-Hashr 5921

How does a mountain humble itself?
What is the message of this parable? -
you would have certainly seen it in a state of trembling and perforating out of the fear of Allah.
Both the words are in accusative case as describing the state since the verb before it is for seeing with eyes. Active participle is derived from verb, and it is Form-V. Once external force-stimuli acts upon matter a chain process of disintegration-perforation starts.

If anyone can dig up similar parables I think we would get a much better idea of the intention of this verse. But my initial reaction was that "mountain" simply represents haughtiness and pride, as in "even the pride and majesty equal to a mountain would crumble if it knew the truth about God" - something like that.
But I'm still interested in seeing how many similar parables there are of the Quran being "revealed" to an inanimate object.

Had We caused this Grand Qur'aan to descend upon a mountain
you would have certainly seen it in a state of trembling and perforating out of the fear of Allah.
This is one fact, the other fact is that it was sustained by a heart of grandeur
And it is true that it/Grand Qur'aan is certainly the gradual and successive communication from the Sustainer Lord of the Worlds.
Gib'raa'eil descended along with this to communicate
it to your heart; so that you the Messenger Muhammad Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam] publicly become known being from amongst the the Revivalists/Warner/Awakeners; in the language Arabic rich, clear, perspicuous, eloquent, distinct, free from admixture, void of indistinctness, apparent like the daybreak and divested of the froth .And its effect
Allah gradually revealed/ascended/communicated the Best Quote/Statement, written Book, explainer with metaphors mirroring the hidden physical facts, from that part of it/Grand Qur'aan the skins of those, who fear and revere their Sustainer Lord, become bristled in fear; afterwards their skins and their hearts become soft towards/upon the Admonishment/Book of Allah. This Book is The Guidance of Allah, He guides with this Book whomever He wills. And whomever Allah causes to be exposed/lets him remain in neglectfully straying/wandering/ indifferent, then for this reason for him there is none from guiding one.
