Hello all, I am a newbie here, and just wanted to say hi. I am actually a bit lost right now. I first came to be intersted in Islam when I met my boyfriend who is a Shia from Iraq. I studied and decided that it was the right path for me. But after a while, things started to change. For example, when I prayed it just didnt feel right, like I would have to force myself to cry sometimes to emit any kind of emotions when praying. I felt like it was just the same thing over and over again. It was hard for me to understand what I was saying half the time. I thought to myself, why can't I just pray and speak to god without all this rakats and difficulties. It was difficult for me to find the time to pray and when I did, it was very hard to focus on saying the words and bowing and prostrating correctly. Overall it was difficult, and I thought that god did not want religion to be difficult for us. Another thing is the whole covering up. I do not agree with hijab, I just dont see the need for covering my hair and wearing long thick outergarments. Modesty is inside and out, I feel like I can be pefectly modest by just wearing jeans and a shirt. I also dont understand why we have to eat halal meat only! Cuz jeez, its really hard for me to just eat halal meat. I enjoy McDonalds every now and again, and I just dont see the point. Again, it makes life a little harder having to just eat halal meat. These are just a few things I am in a mess over. I also feel like there is too much emphasis on Muhammad Pbuh and not enough on just god! Too much emphasis on imams, sheiks, and ayatollahs. I believe I should be focused on god and god alone. I dont know where Im at right now, just utterly confused sometimes. Anyways I just wanted to share my situation with everyone and thank you for this wonderful site. Inshallah I will find the true path to Allah.

MazzyStar,
I agree with the focus on God alone. The rest is hyperbole. Wear what you want God doesn't care. He doesn't need for you to prostrate yourself to show your compassion. Just know that he love you!)God is an Evolving God. Not a hate filled vengeful god as depicted in the old Testament.
He is a Benevolent, Loving, Father, Mother, God. A Creator, Perfector God. He can?t be any other way! His ways always work toward greater unity and synchronism .We fail him. We punish ourselves... He doesn?t punish us. He only wishes our completeness through our learning and doing. He accepts our growth but ignores our shortcomings... until we learn and move forward. That?s why he doesn?t intervene. He knows that time is really irrelevant in our learning. But because of our own concepts of mortality time is not irrelevant to us. We must make the best, compassionate, use of our time. That is the way we move closer to God...Through our Compassion for others...and for Life!

Ma Butee? lol can's spell it. I was born in Subic Bay on a naval base. But other than that, raised here in the US. Haven't been back to visit. I'm only half pinoy, mum is filipino and dad is white. My moms family lives in Quizon City. Ah you have a sister here, mashallah. I haven't really seen a very big filipino community here. Thanks for your warm welcome. Glad to be hear. Subhanallah.
