The free-minds search takes one to a broken link on this issue, but at last the article I was searching for has been made available and was here all along.

Please friends, consider this thoughtfully. This is first rate scholarship that, in my opinion, we would be foolish to brush aside.
The more I research the topic, utilizing all sources available, the more convinced I am that the truth beneath the fiction is coming to light. This work threatens neither the value nor integrity of The Qur'an or the life of Prophet Muhammad, but gives us a glimpse into a reality that there was great effort to obscure. We should care about this reality and support all research to discover what is true. If you take Islam to heart, you will want to research and discover the authentic early history. If you doubt the findings, then research for yourself. Historical, archeological, linguistic and anthropological research can bring reality out from under the dark shade of myth.

I am leaning towards this view of Jerusalem being where the temple is, where we should turn during salat, and where we should pilgrimage to. I have seen no reference of Mecca ever being Becca. And all things point to Abraham building his temple in Jerusalem, the "city of peace," he prayed for.

I've never heard the Safed/Meron theory before. It's interesting.

I had previously considered Moriah and Zion. Zion being referred to as Safon, or north. After the destruction of the Temple the Jews prohibited anyone from walking on the 'holy ground'. It could be argued the Quran was saying it was actually okay. Weak argument, though. Yours is much more compelling.

          Salaam JSS and all,

Me too, never heard of Safed and Meron, its really interesting. Can you or someone please add a picture of map in here showing Safed and Meron if possible? It will be greatly appreciated and it may help so many other members of free-minds, inshaAllah.

I have not done any research so far on this, but very much interested. As soon as I took a start, something bothers me

          397
397 In it are clear signs the station of Abraham. And whoever enters it will be secure. And Allah is owed from the people to make Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary, whoever can make a path to it. And whoever rejects, then Allah has no need of the worlds.

When I saw some videos on you-tube about Jerusalem, I found few videos very disturbing, police firing at people, fighting, bombs IN Jerusalem and near the Dome of the rock.

Can someone please put some light on it, cause it won't tally will 397. All replies are welcome.

May Allah increase us all in knowledge and guide us all to His path pr

            Peace

It could be, if you take Bethlehem as 'The House Of God' and Bayt-Allah as 'The House of Allah, however, it is worth noting that both locations gained importance only due to the belief of a large number of people that both locations are the focal point for their ritual prayers, and destinations for religious pilgrimage.

Unfortunately, a glance at chapter 2144-147 and 2177 will render that belief invalid as well as impossible, let's see what those verses say about Mecca or Jerussalem being "The Focal Point".

"We see the turning of thy face (for guidance to the heavens now Shall We turn thee to a Qibla that shall please thee. Turn then Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque Wherever ye are, turn your faces in that direction. The people of the Book know well that that is the truth from their Lord. Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do" . (2144).

"Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qibla; nor art thou going to follow their Qibla; nor indeed will they follow each other's Qibla. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong" .(2145).

"The people of the Book know this as they know their own sons; but some of them conceal the truth which they themselves know".(2146).

"The Truth is from thy Lord; so be not at all in doubt".(2147).

And finally "It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing".(2177).

If, after reading these verses and you still wondering about the question of this topic, please explain why is Mecca or Jerussalem such important locations for Muslims for other reason or reasons than what I stated above.

            Peace

Fully agree... the questions is not important and irrelevant...

God doesn't need any house / temple, and it is not important.

It's one of the major lessons that the Jew's learned it in the hard way.. when the Romans ransacked Jerusalem 2000 years ago..
And perhaps Makkah will also be destroyed in the future...

              Salam / Peace

It's the acts of devotion that matter.

I would interpret 397 in light of the fact that Hebron, where Maqam Ibrihim is located, was an ancient city of refuge where inhabitants had protected status. Metaphorically, one could also interpret 397 to mean if you have spiritually reached the station/level of Ibrihim, you are secure. We thus owe it to Allah (and ourselves) to try to reach this level of faith and spiritual purity.

                    Wa alaikum salaam JSS,

Thank you. I don't agree with red part above but I do agree with the blue part from your post, but it has to clarified by understanding the word "bayt" used in 397 as this is the key word included in this topic of hajj and also used in 396. Till now I don't have any idea what "bayt" exactly mean, still waiting to get answer from my Lord, theCreator, Allah.

you monotheist and reformist always disrespecting mecca and the Kabba. Read this from the words of Jesus.

JOHN 419-21 19 ?Sir,? the woman said, ?I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.?

21 ?Woman,? Jesus replied, ?believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem

So if not in jerusalem then where? A Muslim would say Mecca, but you reformist and monotheist, where do you say God should be worshiped?

The Kaaba in Mecca is geographically posotined by the golden ratio or what some scientist call the fingerprint of God.
